Amir Khan fight is on ITV in a few minutes. I still can't get used to Stewpot from Grange Hill being master of ceremonies though.

Herman G. Neuname, Saturday, 8 December 2007 22:06 (sixteen years ago) link

do we know when sky are showing it on non-PPV? I'm so knackered there's no way I'll stay up for it, and I'm buggered if I'm paying 16 quid for it so it's a Likely Lads scenario for me..... if they're not showing it too late.

Porkpie, Saturday, 8 December 2007 22:12 (sixteen years ago) link

Khan wins in 1st round. And the ref shoulda stopped it about 10 seconds earlier as he wasn't fighting back. Earl was clearly a finished fighter who should never have been fighting Khan.

Herman G. Neuname, Saturday, 8 December 2007 22:15 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm not paying £16 either for the Hatton. I'll just check the result in the morning.

Herman G. Neuname, Saturday, 8 December 2007 22:16 (sixteen years ago) link

The Khan fight lasted 72 seconds. He will never have an easier fight.

"ricky hatton is the underdog, so you've gotta make him favourite" - every english sports pundit over past week

Just got offed, Sunday, 9 December 2007 04:12 (sixteen years ago) link

why do we boo opposition anthems? what is wrong with us?

anyway, here goes

Just got offed, Sunday, 9 December 2007 04:50 (sixteen years ago) link

not watching this. this will not end well. if hatton wins by miracle of god or assassins' bullet then it will be the greatest upset of all time

Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved, Sunday, 9 December 2007 04:52 (sixteen years ago) link

mayweather, of course, is winning convincingly so far (according to the radio)

Just got offed, Sunday, 9 December 2007 04:56 (sixteen years ago) link

If the loser's plucky, we blame the ref. If the loser isn't plucky, we character-assassinate him. Fortunately for Ricky Hatton, he's plucky.

Just got offed, Sunday, 9 December 2007 05:13 (sixteen years ago) link

lol hatton, lol hype, lol media, lol wanko ergo sum

calzaghe for SPOTY

Mr. Goodman, Sunday, 9 December 2007 05:31 (sixteen years ago) link

USA!!! USA!!!

lol dat limey nigga got his fucken ass kicked... after watching all of 24/7 the other night i knew that there was no way mayweather would lose~~~

on tha real tho that was a tyte fite imho. i was impressed as shit by how mayweather adapted and came out of his shell. he stepped the fuck up instead of just doing enough to get by~~

cankles, Sunday, 9 December 2007 05:55 (sixteen years ago) link

Not a surprise. Maybe he shouldn't have stepped up a weight.
x-post

Herman G. Neuname, Sunday, 9 December 2007 05:56 (sixteen years ago) link

happy to see hatton hit the canvas. mayweather was mostly dominating that shit though, would've won the decision.

johnny crunch, Sunday, 9 December 2007 06:03 (sixteen years ago) link

Great fight. I thought Mayweather was technically superior to De La Hoya without really killing him, but tonight he was impressive as fuck. I'd've scored him at least 6-2 up before he stopped it but really...admire Hatton's balls and he gave good post-bout interview but you could see in him that he knew he'd been well beaten.

milo z, Sunday, 9 December 2007 08:01 (sixteen years ago) link

oof, that looks nasty.

Listened to radio from round 4 onwards and it sounded like Hatton got a lesson or two, possibly the most important one being that he may have the bollocks but he doesn't have the power to step up a weight.

Mayweather had been thoroughly twattish in the whole run-up, then in th epost fight interview seemed thoroughly decent.

Porkpie, Sunday, 9 December 2007 09:20 (sixteen years ago) link

Great year for British sport

Dom Passantino, Sunday, 9 December 2007 10:53 (sixteen years ago) link

God knows what he's gonna do now, Junior Witter's not exactly gonna get him a £10million purse.

Dom Passantino, Sunday, 9 December 2007 10:58 (sixteen years ago) link

Hatton vs De La Hoya retirement fund-raiser in the New Year.

onimo, Sunday, 9 December 2007 11:53 (sixteen years ago) link

Ah, I don't see that Ricky's got many places to go now bar the De La Hoya exhibition bout. S'pose it's too much to expect he just retires with dignity tho.

Noodle Vague, Sunday, 9 December 2007 12:29 (sixteen years ago) link

The worst of this is that Hamilton is now a shoe-in for a Sports Bottler of the Year Award tonight.

Noodle Vague, Sunday, 9 December 2007 12:30 (sixteen years ago) link

Mayweather had been thoroughly twattish in the whole run-up, then in th epost fight interview seemed thoroughly decent.

...whereas Hatton came across afterwards as mealy-mouthed and cocky.

By the way, who was the old guy doing the interviews immediately after the fight, an old guy with white hair? What a pro!

Daniel Giraffe, Sunday, 9 December 2007 12:34 (sixteen years ago) link

Larry Merchant?

milo z, Sunday, 9 December 2007 17:08 (sixteen years ago) link

lol i would pay premium PPV prices to see larry merchant tortured to death on live tv

cankles, Sunday, 9 December 2007 17:44 (sixteen years ago) link

Yes, it was Larry Merchant. They didn't make 'em like that any more.

Daniel Giraffe, Sunday, 9 December 2007 18:07 (sixteen years ago) link

don't

Daniel Giraffe, Sunday, 9 December 2007 18:07 (sixteen years ago) link

What sort of reputation does Merchant have? Is this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLtPy42LhGM&feature=related anything to go by?

Daniel Giraffe, Sunday, 9 December 2007 18:19 (sixteen years ago) link

Lots of people seem to hate him, but he's also popular enough that HBO couldn't demote/can him when they wanted to bring in Max Kellerman to do color/interviews full time (thank god for that, Kellerman is a nightmare).

I like him a lot - it's kind of nice to have a rambling old sportswriter type talking rather than high-sheen tv people.

milo z, Sunday, 9 December 2007 18:23 (sixteen years ago) link

"Dom Passantino left the group I hope Ricky Hatton gives Floyd Mayweather a fuckin good hiding."

merchant is a) always drunk as shit b) always asks the fighters really demeaning questions

it's pretty entertaining but at the same time i wish his slurring old ass would just die in a fire

cankles, Sunday, 9 December 2007 21:44 (sixteen years ago) link

And well done to Joe Calzaghe BBC Sports Personality Of The Year.
Justice has been done.

Herman G. Neuname, Sunday, 9 December 2007 21:50 (sixteen years ago) link

Watched the whole thing on youtube, very entertainting. I love Hatton, but Mayweather is a fucking genius, probably the second best fighter (next to RJJ) of my generation.

wanko ergo sum, Sunday, 9 December 2007 23:39 (sixteen years ago) link

I put Mayweather above RJJ.

Bill Magill, Monday, 10 December 2007 15:12 (sixteen years ago) link

I keep reading that as RJG and thinking you are all mad.

ailsa, Monday, 10 December 2007 15:15 (sixteen years ago) link

I'd back an RSJ against either of them.

Michael Jones, Monday, 10 December 2007 15:17 (sixteen years ago) link

Alex Arthur looks to have left it all in the gym, big shock on if he doesn't stop catching these right hands.

onimo, Saturday, 15 December 2007 22:51 (sixteen years ago) link

Two great rounds there from Arthur to show I don't know shit.

onimo, Saturday, 15 December 2007 22:58 (sixteen years ago) link

who is RSJ?

wanko ergo sum, Saturday, 15 December 2007 23:00 (sixteen years ago) link

Rolled Steel Joist.

Cracking fight. Left to the body from Arthur in the 9th looked to have taken all the fight out of Foster but then he somehow came back and floored Arthur with a huge right hand in the 11th. Arthur did well to beat the count and hang on for a narrow win.

onimo, Saturday, 15 December 2007 23:41 (sixteen years ago) link

one month passes...

Just gonna watch the Khan fight. 10 minutes?

Noodle Vague, Saturday, 2 February 2008 22:47 (sixteen years ago) link

started

Herman G. Neuname, Saturday, 2 February 2008 22:57 (sixteen years ago) link

1st round Khan, St Clair looks up for it tho.

Noodle Vague, Saturday, 2 February 2008 22:59 (sixteen years ago) link

3-0 I think.

Noodle Vague, Saturday, 2 February 2008 23:06 (sixteen years ago) link

This is a proper fight now. Biggest test Khan's had yet and I'm not sure if he'll pass it.

Noodle Vague, Saturday, 2 February 2008 23:19 (sixteen years ago) link

I.E. he's gonna have to keep his cool

Noodle Vague, Saturday, 2 February 2008 23:19 (sixteen years ago) link

If he can get a points win then it will put the end to the can he go 12 rounds stuff.

Herman G. Neuname, Saturday, 2 February 2008 23:22 (sixteen years ago) link

7th: good round for Khan. Could've been a turning point but he stepped up and reasserted himself.

Noodle Vague, Saturday, 2 February 2008 23:23 (sixteen years ago) link

Neither look like knocking the other out so far. But who knows what will happen.
