The last I will say on the matter to avoid tempting fate: The consequences will not be felt by you per se but I hope that it doesn't affect your brother's chances. </paranoia>

(also sorry for arch know-it-all tone. I'm finished, really I am).

kv_nol, Monday, 1 October 2007 14:37 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah i'm not gonna meet a paranoid radiohead fan for pints. it's off.

darraghmac, Monday, 1 October 2007 14:44 (sixteen years ago) link

Ha ha ha leave off, I liked the packaging on the other albums and it's better to buy now than regret later. Or something. I'll download when available and give them a penny or something...

Unlikey. You have to register at that site to leave comments and the only person who hated me enough here to bother has left the building. No issues. Seriously my brother is an ex-gang member with a long knife scar running down his neck. I do not need to protect him from ilx. The help provided by this thread has been much appreciated.

Misery, Monday, 1 October 2007 15:02 (sixteen years ago) link

bah, I will stop talking about family members. generally not good here. I think I'm going delirious from over work. After being up until 11 working I was up at 5 to get back at it. I'm going to go nuts soon.

Misery, Monday, 1 October 2007 15:05 (sixteen years ago) link

I will not be getting the flat. They will not budge from their price. I am rather sad.

Misery, your bro will be fine. I am just very wary of interweb in general.

kv_nol, Monday, 1 October 2007 15:08 (sixteen years ago) link

sorry to hear that kev, but maybe the upcoming 'bump' will help things.

(i realise this doesn't help)

major bummerz. But maybe a better one is out there waiting for you? Keep your hopes up.

Misery, Monday, 1 October 2007 15:17 (sixteen years ago) link

It's not the worst. Just really not looking forwards to viewing, visiting, searching etc. Ready for home now and blanket over the head time. Thanks all.

kv_nol, Monday, 1 October 2007 15:31 (sixteen years ago) link

Hmmm. I kind of liked the hunt; seeing new houses in new places. It was kind of like a form of socially acceptable domestic voyeurism: what's in their kitchen, bookshelves, CD racks, etc...

Michael White, Monday, 1 October 2007 15:34 (sixteen years ago) link

Ha ha yeah, that has been fun actually. It's getting to the places, where I work doesn't really let me sneak off for an hour here and there so it's all in the evenings and rushed.

Anyway, back to more important things: buses + strippers. Match made in heaven?

kv_nol, Monday, 1 October 2007 15:35 (sixteen years ago) link

Now those are some hardy pole dancers, 'cause they have to take into account all the stops and starts jostling them about.

Do you have a slanket or whatver that's called.

I don't think we looked at one house that people were still living in.

Misery, Monday, 1 October 2007 15:40 (sixteen years ago) link

Will steal the one I gave the S.O.

Space shuttle strippers. That's what NASA should be working on...

kv_nol, Monday, 1 October 2007 15:47 (sixteen years ago) link

paint strippers.

like, strippers with paint on them.

darraghmac, Monday, 1 October 2007 15:51 (sixteen years ago) link

kv_nol, Monday, 1 October 2007 15:53 (sixteen years ago) link

with that in mind- good evening. two hours of five a side and then spurs on telly calling.

darraghmac, Monday, 1 October 2007 16:00 (sixteen years ago) link

There must be a lot of people refreshing for your brother right now, Sam, cause I keep doing it, and it's going up by leaps of 5s and 10s. I hope he gets it, too!

How are y'all? It was a decent weekend, and looks like it will be a really lovely day, but I'm stuck in the office until 530... ugh.

luna, Monday, 1 October 2007 16:18 (sixteen years ago) link

I had a good weekend capped off by seeing how my cats reacted to some friends' dog when they came over for dinner. Unluckily I didn't get any good photos, though.

Michael White, Monday, 1 October 2007 17:23 (sixteen years ago) link

I have been clicking the shit out of this thing today, I really hope your brother gets the job, Sam.

luna, Monday, 1 October 2007 22:06 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm in ur panhandle, clicking Mz M's brother's link.

hello everyone from Memphis Texas! I'm stupid now, but that's the fun of field work. Tomorrow I get to map all the stop signs in town!

I'm going to take the rental car in search of food.

patita, Monday, 1 October 2007 23:04 (sixteen years ago) link

Completely by accident, we caught the first two episodes of Knights of Prosperity on Paramount Comedy last night, that sitcom about the people who try to rob Mick Jagger's apartment. It was pretty good, I thought. Shame it got pulled after 11 weeks.

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 08:36 (sixteen years ago) link

I watched The Panel last night. Good fun.

I also couldn't sleep for more than two minutes last night without a nightmare. Really need sleep!

kv_nol, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 08:45 (sixteen years ago) link

I don't like the Panel so much any more now that Dara's not on it.

You're right about the sleep. Some of that would be good.

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 11:06 (sixteen years ago) link

He is sorely missed but at least M4xw3ll wasn't on it!

kv_nol, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 11:07 (sixteen years ago) link

I've got to go back to the evil sadistic bastard who gets paid to hurt people dentist for a filling next week :(

onimo, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 11:08 (sixteen years ago) link

Ouch man, hate the things. What happened? Did one fall out or were you just lax in the whole dental hygiene department?

kv_nol, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 11:11 (sixteen years ago) link

An existing filling cracked. I suppose that's better than getting a new one but it's still a horrible thought. I hate dentists. Hate them.

onimo, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 11:14 (sixteen years ago) link

I hate barbers more for some reason. Vanity I suppose.

It's a pity we're not allowed drink before dentist: Nod off in the chair and sleep through the worst of it!

kv_nol, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 11:16 (sixteen years ago) link

I take the kids now so I have to be all "The dentist is a very nice man! Going to the dentist is Fun For All The Family!" and keep my hands behind my back so the kids can't see them shaking.

onimo, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 11:18 (sixteen years ago) link

At the risk of sounding sexist, I have always had better experiences with women dentists than men. I find it easier to get them to ignore the shaking and crying that the approach of any needle causes in me.

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 11:26 (sixteen years ago) link

My mum once laughed at my fear in a group clinic in Delhi. All you could hear was drills, I was shitting myself and she thought it was the funniest thing ever. Cheers mum. You are a good father Onimo.

kv_nol, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 11:27 (sixteen years ago) link

That's sexist! (xpost) I also agree.

kv_nol, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 11:28 (sixteen years ago) link

My 2nd worst dentist experience ever was with an evil bitch from hell woman dentist. I don't differentiate between these bastards on gender.

onimo, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 11:28 (sixteen years ago) link

Best and worst dental experience were with women dentists.

The last one was sweet and kind and understanding, but when I was 18 I had an abcess under a slightly knackered tooth. The tooth wouldn't pull out (weak woman, you see), so the dentist had to chip it out ONE PIECE AT A TIME.

Even with a local anaesthetic, I have never known pain like it - even the hott dental nurse holding my hand and mopping my brow didn't make it better. Mind you, I did get the afternoon off of college as my Politics lecturer bumped into me as I was bleeding profusely.

Guilty_Boksen, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 11:56 (sixteen years ago) link

ONE PIECE AT A TIME

That would be my worst ever too, but with added "we can't get this bit out so I'm going to just take this scalpel and slash your gum to bits!"

onimo, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 11:59 (sixteen years ago) link

jesus, i haven't been to the dentist in 12yrs because i'm completely terrified of them. should probably go before i head over to the US next year, as i imagine it would bankrupt me to get dental problems over there.

Rubyredd, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 12:02 (sixteen years ago) link

"we can't get this bit out so I'm going to just take this scalpel and slash your gum to bits!"

I should have mentioned that bit - the pain from the tooth was so great that I didn't care. She sort of lanced the abcess first, iirc, then chipped at the tooth, then slashed the gums, then left me to bleed to death with a rather large piece of wadding.

xpost

Guilty_Boksen, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 12:04 (sixteen years ago) link

Hang on, did we all go to the same dentist? The last time I went I had one "taken out" by a woman who sort of made A COMPLETE ARSE OF IT.

I read Trish's post as 'I have always had better experiences with women dentists than men' meaning men in general, not specifically dentists.

Anyway, I have just found out that the meeting I didn't go to today (late night in the pub, plus I had to tell my mate that his TOTAL CRUSH isn't going to happen) because of onimoed-type sleeping in was postponed for a week anyway, only nobody had bothered to tell me.

aldo, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 12:04 (sixteen years ago) link

i was getting a filling on an upper tooth and it exploded- powdered tooth out my mouth and all over dentist and nurse. didn't hurt but they sure looked worried.

worst ever dentists experience was the first one- two extractions without warning, took about three minutes from needle to finish. i was ten. no lollies, warnings or smiles from dentist, who was working for health board. i had to go back the next week for the same again, and i threw my first and only proper screaming fit. they had to buy me hardback LOTR to keep me quiet after.

i've got a nice dentist now, he's quiet and doesn't make any sudden movements.

darraghmac, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 12:06 (sixteen years ago) link

totally off the topic, but where is nathalie? is she maybe having her baby already? i know she's due sometime this month.

Rubyredd, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 12:06 (sixteen years ago) link

I wasn't left to bleed to death. I got stitches. The problem then was that I couldn't brush my teeth properly for 10 days or I'd have ripped the stitches so I had to suffer death breath as well. When I got the stitches out and finally got a good brush at my teeth it was an amazing feeling - I actually ran all the way home from the dentist to brush my teeth.

onimo, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 12:06 (sixteen years ago) link

the last time i went to the dentist, he kept asking me questions that required more than a nod or shake of the head - while he had two hands in my mouth. has this happened to anyone else?

Rubyredd, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 12:07 (sixteen years ago) link

Yes mine does that. He seems to understand my responses, even if I don't.

onimo, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 12:08 (sixteen years ago) link

That always happens - fill your mouth with strange metal objects, clamps and wadding then ask you how your holiday was.

Guilty_Boksen, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 12:10 (sixteen years ago) link

Every female dentist I've ever had has shoved her tit in my ear, then asked "and how does that feel?"

I'd always assumed they were asking about their dentistry, but as the years go on I'm less sure.

aldo, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 12:16 (sixteen years ago) link

where is your dentist again, aldo? Phone number and address would be good.

Guilty_Boksen, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 12:19 (sixteen years ago) link

you must have amazing ears, or something. maybe they're testing the anaesthetic!

darraghmac, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 12:20 (sixteen years ago) link

Much like the question 'how do they expect you to answer with their hands in your mouth?', there is a 'how do they expect you to hear the question with a tit in your ear?' issue.

aldo, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 12:21 (sixteen years ago) link

Having a tit shoved in your ear at least provides you with something else to think about.

I knew as soon as I said I'd had better experiences with women dentists that you MEN would try to undermine and OPPRESS my SISTERS in the profession. Typical.

You probably all have difficult teeth on PURPOSE.
