Mary McDonnell being nominated while Alfre Woodward wasn't: truly appalling

Yup. Dump Deneuve playing...what exactly -- Severine in colonial garb?

So both your votes are for Thompson?

I haven't rewatched HE -- or Lorenzo's Oil -- since '92

i've watched howard's end a bunch of times since. thompson's performance holds up.

It just got a sparkling Criterion reissue.

I completely forgot Love Field ever existed.

Not at all a fan of Howards End, but Thompson can have this one.

yeah glancing at other awards lists or films i can remember coming out this year and other than sheryl lee for the twin peaks movie and juliette binoche for the lovers on the bridge (and both of these are strictly only possible in some alternate universe) and maaybe cynda williams (though she's pretty easily the worst lead performance in one false move right?)(god she looked good in mo better blues though) or sharon stone i guess i can't come up w/ someone who really could've been nominated other than woodard obv. ps: did you know sara gilbert was nominated for best actress at the independent spirit awards this year? i don't need to tell you the movie do i?

o and if pfeiffer had been nominated for batman's back i might've voted for that but this is a pretty easy vote for thompson and i have no use for that movie (shocker).

Howards End is a decent to very good adaptation.
Sheryl Lee is a good alternative, and, yeah, I'd have swapped Love Field for Batman Returns.

Is Poison Ivy > Passion Fish?
― Eric H., Wednesday, 8 September 2010 11:21 (thirteen years ago) link
I haven't seen any of these films. I've only heard of two.

Love Field is such oscar-bait: kennedy, monroe, and race relations all in a mix. Caught part of it on tv for the first time since 92 (er probably 93, I'm sure I saw it on video) and found it to be pretty terrible. Used to love Passion Fish, especially Strathairn, but Lone Star is the best Sayles imo.
