their jam-band shit is, to me, one of the biggest wastes of talent ever.

agreed.

btw -- worthwhile to check out is their contribution to Jimbo Mathus's first album.

I don't know the guy personally, but I always liked Jim D's comments in Sweet Soul Music.

Jimbo Mathus is hit or miss, too. I've seen him with his Knockdown Society and it bored me to tears. Then I saw him play with Luther & Cody in the early days and he/ they were amazing. The best though was when he jumped on stage with Jack Oblivian's Tennessee Tearjerkers (apparently the two played together in a high school punk band called Jonny Vomit and the Dry-Heaves). Absolute mayhem.

I've always heard good things about Songs For Rosetta. I'll have to put that on the mile-long to buy list.

one month passes...
i just saw these guys at borders during lunch. luther is just a monster. cody was on an accoustic, too. he was very focused on playing, whereas luther can just rattle that shit off in in his sleep, but he could hold his own next to his brother. great stuff.

I like his new album! Even the typical blues covers sounded OK to me--some cool arrangements.

yikes. can't believe that show at borders was almost 11 years ago. damn, i've been on the internet for a long time.

Have mostly ignored these guys as beloved-by-jamband-people-and-presumably-corny, but they aren't bad. The more jamband-y The Word is fantastic.

Maybe the only real Southern rock guitar hero of his generation?

uh, Derek Trucks (and Brad Paisley), among others?

Derek is the obvious one, I agree. Not sure what I was thinking when I wrote that. It was a long time ago. But Luther's still great.
