Double Deckers have all the right things, as their name suggests they have two levels, you'll find that most great, long-lasting bars have this (Mars, Marathon (ok, snickers if you want)etc). As for the individual layers? whipped nougat, a good thing, provides gooiness and has a sweet, smooth flavour; then the base, who doesn't like chocolate and rice crispies?

As for the wrapper, it's more reminiscent of the Perth Glory Football kit than an RL one but hey, Blue and orange are good colours. The new slogan? "Big up top" mmmm, nice.

How can they not be num?

I think it was the chocolate and rice krispies that put me off, it seemed a bit cheap really. If it's something you can make yourself it shouldn't be in a bar.

Double Deckers look and taste disgusting. What is nougat exactly? My dad works for a cement company, I had to park the car there once and the car park looks like it's made of nougat.

as fillers go, I'd put it second behind peanut butter (ooh I had a reeces bar yesterday that was like a picnic but with much nicer peanuts and loads of peanut butter - nice) and narrowly ahead of caramel and truffle.

I realise this is a controversial viewpoint.

Surely no-one says 'nugget'? Do they? Anyway the stuff you get in choc bars isn't really proper nougat, more a sort of whipped up nougat style filling. Which is nummy.

Margarine - hard g / soft g I guess. I have heard people say mar GA rine instead of marge arine.

a small majority of people i know back home say nugget. i can't understand it.

not a huge fan of the nougat, myself, so i should rejoice at the besmirching of its name, really.

N. was doubtful that anyone pronounces margarine with a hard 'g' so am glad tis proven that i am not mad.

I have a Double Decker in my greasy paws right now and in fact the stuff is called nougatine, and contains the following ingredients: glucose syrup
sugar
hydrogenated vegetable oil
dried egg white
fat-reduced cocoa
flavourings
salt

Double Decker, yes, excellent chocolate, far superior to Toffee Crisp, original in design and taste, with crispy bits that are too cultured to make you think you could make it yourself.

I don't eat chocolate much anymore. It's overrated and I'd rather a beer, or some crisps, or some cigarettes. I think I ate so much chocolate from the ages of 4-13 that I now dislike it.

The only bad thing I can say about the Double Decker bar is that I find I eat them too quickly. I shall have to try Emma's trick, but they are not easy to divide like say a Twix is.

Apparently Mars Bars have just been relaunched with a new logo (and new formula??? or just new, lighter size poss.) Anyone tried the new bar?

I used to do the same thing with mars bars to just leave the caramel, I fear the new over-whipped nuggoo (my new, quicker to type name for it) may make the Mars bar a bit of a lightweight bar for the chocolate afficionado.

Duible Deckers ar one of those things like olives of sushi that you have to be in the mood for. Twixes were always dead easy to pull apart, but then it got harder.

mmmm, biting the biscuit off a twix to leave the caramel, it always seemed like it was the wrong way round, but it was a far better way to eat them. (cf. pulling Bourbon biscuits apart and eating the filling)

Now it is Creme egg season surely someone should start a How Do You Eat Yours thread? I got sent away from the lunch table once for biting off the top then sticking my finger into the fondant goo and licking it all off. I was about 17 at the time which apparently made it all the more unforgiveable. I think licking out the inside just with your tongue is gross (arf arf).

Problem with white chocolate is that its taste isn't very strong and hence gets overwhelmed by anything else the bar might contain. Saying that white toblerones do seem to be quite popular but might be disqualified from the bar category due to infamous triangular prism shape.

Just tried a double decker for the first time. It was a bit of an ordeal to eat: ridiculously tough caramel base accompanied by a slightly unpleasant tasting biscuit section. The most that can be said, I feel, is that it lasts a lot longer than most other snacks.

I'm not sure if I don't like Double Deckers as much as I did in the 80s or if it's just that the only place I decide to buy them now is the work sandwich van, which despite no refrigeration serves all its produce (inc. perma-green bananas) at arctic temperatures most of the year round

I was gonna say Fuse but I forgot they had nuts in and also apparently they don't exist any more

damn you I'm supposed to be on a diet but breakage via chocolate is all too possible as flatmate has left a big pile of Dairy Milk in the kitchen and also I still have a box of Thorntons in my room after I carried it all round the country as an emergency present in case any aunts/uncles I'd forgotten existed turned up to xmas festivities (PS don't feel sorry for me, I just had a Kopparberg, a couple of vodkas and a bag of prawn crackers, so the diet is already p. much dead)

one month passes...

I had a Double Decker a few days ago and was disappointed that it wasn't like I remembered it - the lack of raisins now is a real problem. It's like the bar has lost it's raisin d'être.
Also this morning I had a Cadbury's Dairy Milk with Oreo pieces. Not bad, but could have done with more Oreo and less of that (noticeably cheaper since the Kraft takeover) milk chocolate. The thing that I like about Oreos is that that they have a dark chocolate taste, and it didn't really come through so much here.

Originally the bar contained raisins within the base layer, however consumer research in the mid-1980s led to these being removed and the current formulation being introduced.
