I dont really get how most of this stuff differs from twee indie of the last 20 odd years.

it kinda doesnt? thats the point? i mean i feel like the most of the stuff that 'started' chillwave was unabashedly more masculine & hippie-ish than sarah records or w/e but the big difference is probably just that now cheap synths/laptops are the focal instrument rather than guitars

haha well there's weirder stuff that could probably get classified as 'chillwave' considering how loose plax & i are being itt but i tend to think of chillwave as an attempt to translate some of the sounds/textures + aesthetic concerns from 'weirder' psych/drone/freak stuff of the past few yrs into a 'pop' format

nice def. but i think it kinda cuts out the unifying *concerns* of chillwave wrt nostalgia and how that is synthesized via emphasis on paratextuality etc.

that track kind is but the whole not not fun aesthetic which i guess is kinda the fort thunder aesthetic feels like the springboard for chillwave more than 'actual chillwave'. mb 'weirder' and 'druggier' but not that far off, really, in the end.

btw this is not in the spirit of this thread. i think its important that chillwave means a lot of things, kinda prefer this end of it to the more straight up "indie in a windtunnel" aesthetic tho obv i like both. (see my above def. for what ~chillwave means to me~)

also wrt beach fossils, i dont think i've heard any of the stuff from the last few posts before. but that outer limits thing is pretty great.

haha its kinda debatable whether beach fossils despite the misleading 'beach' are really all that chillwave & not just w/e were calling indie but i mean theyre songs are called shit like 'youth' and 'vacation' yknow?

& it does get a little same-y 11 tracks are probably too much but i really really like "daydream" and "youth"
