Jon ex-machina, it is with British pride that I announce that Wolf Eyes are on the front cover of The Wire magazine.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 15:41 (nineteen years ago) link

Does anyone in Britain actually read the Wire?

ha, jon check my blog - i was the first person on the web to critically attack the libertines before they even released anything.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 16:05 (nineteen years ago) link

Music that tries really hard to be scary is kind of silly.

unless it works really fucking well.

Taking Sides: Tangerine Dream vs. Wolf Eyes

They're pretty good, but I bet there's no Phaedra.

iannis, Friday, 22 October 2004 19:46 (nineteen years ago) link

We just listened to Wolf Eyes "Burned Mind" and thought, huh, pretty heavy. Then we listened to Paranoid and decided Wolf Eyes are cute and harmless. But it's friday, and the whiskey is taking hold.

Music that tries really hard to be scary is kind of silly

Perhaps kind of silly, but not necessarily bad - see Merzbow and Borbetomagus, for instance. What I've heard of Wolf Eyes ("Dead Hills" mostly) is good in much the same way as those bands are - the absurdity inherent in extreme music is one of its virtues.

o. nate (onate), Friday, 22 October 2004 20:33 (nineteen years ago) link

superultramega: you shouldn't listen to wolf eyes for a ROCK experience the way you do with sabbath. for that you should see the eyes live where the beats will flow like wine. i still haven't been able to find my copy of dread. wtf. been jamming that recycled tape a lot lately though.. some totally killer live jams.

Ian John50n (orion), Friday, 22 October 2004 20:54 (nineteen years ago) link

you shouldn't listen to the gratedul dead for a ROCK experience the way you do with Sabbath. For that you should see the dead live where Jerry's licks flow like wine. . . .

ouroborus, Friday, 22 October 2004 21:05 (nineteen years ago) link

"wolf eyes rules" is still my favourite track, but somebody said that the entire thing was andrew wk's work instead of being a rmx - any help from the noize dude contingent?

etc, Friday, 22 October 2004 22:50 (nineteen years ago) link

Wolf Eyes LIVE on the other hand is as ROCK an experience as you may get these days.

the red c, Friday, 22 October 2004 22:53 (nineteen years ago) link

Wolf Eyes rules is Andrew WK

Justin Farrar (Justin Farrar), Friday, 22 October 2004 23:00 (nineteen years ago) link

five months pass...
I have never heard Wolf Eyes. They are playing in Glasgow on Saturday. Should I see them? I suppose I'm asking people who know what I like, but I don't know who that is. Me?

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 18:06 (eighteen years ago) link

It's the best rave and death metal show you've ever been to all in one giant charlie horse from your older cousin.

(Yes)

No really, Alba - you WON'T like them.

European Samuel Glickstein (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 18:40 (eighteen years ago) link

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 20:25 (eighteen years ago) link

Never mind Wolf Eyes - Tony Conrad is on the same bill.

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 20:26 (eighteen years ago) link

does Tony Conrad have t-shirts with skulls on them?

The Sensational Sulk (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 20:28 (eighteen years ago) link

current Wolf Eyes line-up = no Dilloway? I don't think he's playing the Glasgow show...

I see that the CCA website is listing the Saturday gig as Tony Conrad's 'first UK Show' - utter bollox, cos I saw Conrad/Faust in London maybe ten years ago now? it was OK, but I'm more excited abt catching Double Leopards on the same bill - I contrived to miss most of their set at the SY ATP last year (I was watching Saccahrine Trust upstairs and they were great too, in their way)

I don't think Alba will like Wolf Eyes either

Andrew J L, Wednesday, 20 April 2005 20:56 (eighteen years ago) link

Double Leopards are great. Wolf Eyes lineup = no Dilloway, but Mike Connelly from Hair Police. I wasn't really into it when I saw them.
