Is There an ILE Introduce Yourself Thread?

I've done this on ILM, but not yet ILE....whose broad waters I've only tenuously dipped my toe into,...uncertain of its contents.

I'm a 35 yr old male livin' & workin' in Manhattan, New York City. I've been married for a little over a year & a half. I'm a News Desk Editor at a prominent weekly news magazine, and I freelance write on the side (although pretty much only for THE NEW YORKER's "Goings On About Town" section these days). I've become a regular on ILM after someone foolishly questioned the majesty of Killing Joke back in 2001, thus summoning me like Hastur the Unspeakable to protect Killing Joke's good name and to ensure the Fire gets duly Honored. I'm also a member of The Gathering ( http://www.misera.net/gathering/ ) and the Firewatercircus ( http://groups.yahoo.com/group/firewatercircus/ ). New York City is a scary place these days -- but there seems to be a lot of that going around.

Oh, and stencil? Do fear ol' Neddy - he's a threat to the sanity of us all. And his family indulges in group backrubs or something (I actually need to read that thread rather then just guessing at the contents).

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Friday, 14 February 2003 03:53 (twenty-one years ago) link

Hi everyone! I said hello on another thread but I haven't really introduced myself. I'm Fidelma. I also live in Sydney, Australia, and I also work at a tv station (kinda).

I have one week to go before I leave work forever and go back to uni to study journalism. I'm excited, and I'm feeling less guilt about being on the net at work. So, hi.

Fidelma (fidelma), Friday, 14 February 2003 03:53 (twenty-one years ago) link

which station Fidelma? (if i can ask...)

gaz (gaz), Friday, 14 February 2003 03:56 (twenty-one years ago) link

I'm going to add to mine cause these things are more fun if we list our favorite items of arbitrary categories. (And because I'm printing out a 200 page ms. on an old printer, so I have time to kill.)

Favorite beer: Hoegaarden.
Favorite word at the moment: synecdoche.
Favorite Bowie cover in my Winamp playlist: Sister Machine Gun's "Suffragette City."
Favorite recently-purchased album: Sister Machine Gun's Metropolis, although that's a coincidence.
Favorite ice cream: Serious Burnt Sugar, from some local place.
Favorite vanilla clove cigarette: Djarum Vanilla.
Favorite Daredevil villain this thread has reminded me of: Mr Fear.

Do fear ol' Neddy - he's a threat to the sanity of us all.

I do try.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 14 February 2003 04:04 (twenty-one years ago) link

ah Ned, thanks. actually you were the first person to welcome me on to ILM and here again.

Ethiopian beers are pretty crappy, so my advise is to avoid 'em. Well, uninteristing is a more accurate description - so if they have 'em try St. George for a lager, Harar Stout (which is closer to a Porter) or Bati. There are others but everything is pretty watered down for me as I miss ales, stouts and dark(er) beers generally.

and I just realised it is 7 and i need to start getting ready for work. aargh.

H (Heruy), Friday, 14 February 2003 04:07 (twenty-one years ago) link

Off you go, then. And yer welcome, and thanks!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 14 February 2003 04:11 (twenty-one years ago) link

Hey Gaz, I could tell you, but then I'd have to charge you eight cents a day for the privilege. So there's your answer.

( I was through Oakland last spring - but just driving through on my way from SF International to the foothills of the Sierras. But I have been to Oakland Children's Hospital when I was much younger - in fact, back when I was a child, I do believe *grin*)

Fav Movie: Woody Allen's Love and Death

Fav TV Show: those horrible dating shows

Fav Book: There were five books I read as a kid that made me really interested in music -- the 1979 Rolling Stone Record Guide; Joel Whitburn's Billboard Book of Top 40 Hits (1987); a British coffeetable book from the early '80s (can't remember the name) that had short articles and pictorials about rock bands like the Jam and Duran Duran; History of American Bandstand: It's Got a Great Beat and You Can Dance to It (1987); and a book about NYC hip-hop/breakdance/graffiti culture. For better or worse, these books helped turn me into the obsessive weirdo I am today, so they take precedence on the pecking order.
