I quite like Manitoba, I'd go and see them, but I guess that's not the West Coast of Wales yr talking about?

Damn you nick!

mei (mei), Friday, 20 June 2003 13:23 (twenty years ago) link

ehehehehehe... I'm going straight to Heck!

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Friday, 20 June 2003 13:24 (twenty years ago) link

In case any of you aren't in the know, Manitoba is the name of the lamest province in Canada, and home to Winnipeg, the lamest city in Canada. So a Canadian naming their act Manitoba is akin to an American naming their act err... Iowa or maybe Wyoming.

Speaking of up your ass...

(You tell 'em Sean)

Heh... Sorry my British friends for being so Americancentric (we do that). Isn't Manitoba playing Reading/Leeds though? But 'ere's the dates then:

9/18 San Diego - Casbah
9/19 LA - Spaceland
9/20 San Fran - Bottom of the Hill
9/24 Portland - Medicine Hat Plan B
9/25 Seattle - Chop Suey
9/26 Vancouver - Sonar

I was waiting for you or Bryan to respond to that.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 20 June 2003 14:27 (twenty years ago) link

i listened to this album again today. God, this is so good.

It'll be cool when Dykehouse finally releases his record, so we can match them both up and FITE FITE FITE!

Kingfish (Kingfish), Friday, 20 June 2003 14:33 (twenty years ago) link

My hatred of Manitoba is nothing but irrational, Nick, I'll get back to you though when I find its root and reason.

Cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 21 June 2003 10:19 (twenty years ago) link

I'd tell you to get on aim, Cozen, but I'm just off for lunch.

xx

four years pass...

I used to be like Louis.

Scik Mouthy, Thursday, 23 August 2007 13:27 (sixteen years ago) link

seven months pass...

Pitchfork tells me it's been 5 years. I have no desire to ever hear this again.

baaderonixx, Thursday, 3 April 2008 14:57 (sixteen years ago) link

Wow, five years?! That's kind of frightening. I don't listen to this half as often as his last two, but I can still imagine wanting to, and in fact have a couple of times recently.

Scik Mouthy, Thursday, 3 April 2008 15:04 (sixteen years ago) link

Andorra > Flames > Milk > debut

(but this is all relative to mood, i guess)

stephen, Thursday, 3 April 2008 17:14 (sixteen years ago) link

ten months pass...

Still enjoyable.

Sickamous Mouthall (Scik Mouthy), Thursday, 26 February 2009 13:19 (fifteen years ago) link

I still need to get hold of Up In Flames and Milk

bitch hooligan, pussy ass nobrain dårk (country matters), Thursday, 26 February 2009 13:22 (fifteen years ago) link

Weirdly, I have "Start Breaking My Heart" but have almost never listened to it

bitch hooligan, pussy ass nobrain dårk (country matters), Thursday, 26 February 2009 13:23 (fifteen years ago) link

Milk might actually be my most-played these days, just because it sits very nicely as music for music's sake without being too mentalist or pop.

Sickamous Mouthall (Scik Mouthy), Thursday, 26 February 2009 13:27 (fifteen years ago) link

which is the most mentalist one

bitch hooligan, pussy ass nobrain dårk (country matters), Thursday, 26 February 2009 13:28 (fifteen years ago) link

Up In Flames, I'd say; it's the most breakneck, ideas-per-minute one. Milk is calmer, more laidback.

Sickamous Mouthall (Scik Mouthy), Thursday, 26 February 2009 13:32 (fifteen years ago) link

Ha, well, there's actually no guarantee I'd prefer UIF these days. We'll see.

bitch hooligan, pussy ass nobrain dårk (country matters), Thursday, 26 February 2009 13:33 (fifteen years ago) link

Milk is still pretty fucking mental.

Sickamous Mouthall (Scik Mouthy), Thursday, 26 February 2009 13:43 (fifteen years ago) link

Up in Flames would be in my top 30 or so albums this decade. A landmark album.

ilxor, Thursday, 26 February 2009 15:51 (fifteen years ago) link

three weeks pass...

Am liking Up In Flames muchly!

leigh exodus (country matters), Sunday, 22 March 2009 19:25 (fifteen years ago) link

(yeah, I am on a bit of a "soooo what's Southall recommended me during my ILX'n years" tip at present, largely brought about by the dearth of new interesting music in 2009)

leigh exodus (country matters), Sunday, 22 March 2009 19:26 (fifteen years ago) link

(also brought about by Spotify)

leigh exodus (country matters), Sunday, 22 March 2009 19:27 (fifteen years ago) link

So far, Milk is possibly even better

leigh exodus (country matters), Sunday, 22 March 2009 19:54 (fifteen years ago) link

Up in Flames would be in my top 30 or so albums this decade. A landmark album.

Yeah, I think it's a special disc, too. Not as enthusiastic about his work since then.

Daniel, Esq., Sunday, 22 March 2009 20:22 (fifteen years ago) link

The deluxe edition of UIF is excellent, too. The B-Sides of all his albums are nearly as good as the studio material, and he puts out so much material!

talrose, Sunday, 22 March 2009 20:33 (fifteen years ago) link

I wasn't feeling Milk too much, but thought Andorra was fantastic -- that was a top 10 of the year for me. It's his shimmery summery psych-"pop" record, if anything is.
