There is a band playing at my friend's underground festival this weekend called TURD THROWER.
Pretty sure I am missing that day, anyway.

Trip Maker, Wednesday, 14 July 2010 21:27 (thirteen years ago) link

Doesn't sound like something you'd want to catch, that's for sure.

Any act whose name has the word "fuck" or "shit" in it. I'm too old for that type of "edginess".

Any act whose name has more than four words. "I just bought the new album by I Love You But My Panda Is Gay" is not a sentence I ever want to say out loud.

Tuomas, Thursday, 15 July 2010 11:23 (thirteen years ago) link

LOL! I would totally be in a joke band called I Love You But My Panda Is Gay.

A friend recommended me a band called Volapük but I can't listen to them because every time I read it I think "vomit puke".

Big "a-doy" one that I'm shocked hasn't wound up here yet: Limp Bizkit.

There are plenty of other, more credible reasons to write off Limp Bizkit.

But the name is a pretty adequate map of the territory, you have to admit.

Hurrah for Alex' Pissed Jeans loving.

For me, they reignited that whole Flipper, Fang, Killdozer flame with their debut. Their second one was, erm, toilet but "King of Jeans" nails it.

Hilarious existential sarcasm.

Would love to see them live. Any good?

"Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse" sounds like an 80s Saturday morning cartoon.

I think Volapük is a decent band name, at least if you know what "volapük" is.

Apparently there's a a band called "Rapeman", inspired by a manga of the same name. Can't imagine ever buying their records (or the manga, for that matter).

Tuomas, Thursday, 28 October 2010 08:19 (thirteen years ago) link

If you were into the Wax Trax scene of the 80s & 90s, you owned those Rapeman EPs.

Hugo Stiglitz, a rich young man in search of romance & adventure (Pillbox), Thursday, 28 October 2010 08:23 (thirteen years ago) link

Tuomas, they were Steve Albini's next band after Big Black split up. It was quite a controversial name at the time, or at least it was a bit of an issue when they visited the UK. I went to see them at Leeds Polytechnic and iirc, that gig only just went ahead after threats by the student union to pull it. Outside the venue there was a sizeable student protest and Albini did have to answer questions about the name in every single interview that I ever read. Was never all that comfortable about the name myself tbh and mostly went to the show on account of the other two groups on the bill (Band of Susans and Dinosaur Jr.).

yeah, it's true. those dudes copped all their good ideas from the first few big black records.

Interesting, what was his justification for the name then?
