Maybe a suggest ban counter? So ilxors would know how many people they have pissed off without having to ask a mod.

lazy to search upthread but one thing I'd love to see (which I'm certain we never will) is an "ignore thread" option

This is a brilliant idea, Dan.

kkvgz, Wednesday, 30 June 2010 14:02 (thirteen years ago) link

Yours too, Nicole, although I'm sure that's been brought up before in various sb clusterfucks.

kkvgz, Wednesday, 30 June 2010 14:02 (thirteen years ago) link

Any mod i've ever requested an SB count from has had a gleeful, if not outright maliciously satisfied, mien.

oh no, I've made 10,000 posts on ilx when I could have been writing a novel. outside, playing.

Ned Trifle (Notinmyname), Wednesday, 30 June 2010 14:03 (thirteen years ago) link

i would've loved to have killfiled the viking thread

hell hath no furry (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 30 June 2010 14:03 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah i would use "ignore thread" for threads I really should not be reading or posting on but I keep reading and posting because I have no willpower

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 30 June 2010 14:05 (thirteen years ago) link

i think it would be more fun if people dramatically asked mods to ban them from threads, like when everyone tries to get unhooked from ilx

hell hath no furry (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 30 June 2010 14:06 (thirteen years ago) link

i wouldn't give that trigger-happy bastid HI DERE the satisfaction tbh

does anyone else have this problem where you can't play ilx youtube embeds in chrome? (windows xp, up to date build, no extensions). they work fine on blogs, other fora etc

r|t|c, Saturday, 3 July 2010 09:39 (thirteen years ago) link

they don't work on my iPhone, don't know if that's related at all? It's better that way, actually, cos they just appear as hyperlinks instead - if they showed up as embeds (which do work) it would probably kill my browser

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 3 July 2010 09:45 (thirteen years ago) link

one month passes...

Is it possible for a thread title change to be reflected in the bookmarks as well?

e.g. "US Politics: LOOK AT MY RIGHTEOUS [[redacted]]" still appears as "US Politics: LOOK AT MY RIGHTEOUS COCK" in my bookmarks

sorprendentemente noioso (onimo), Friday, 6 August 2010 14:12 (thirteen years ago) link

Can you not get round that by removing the bookmark and then re-bookmarking?

I am using your worlds, Friday, 6 August 2010 14:17 (thirteen years ago) link

being able to select certain threads not showing up on SNA would be great, but i reckon that's prob been discussed and whatnot up above.

so, i'll, er, just go check that instead.

<spoilers> BB code which lets you embed spoilers in threads, shows up as a black block of text, highlight to reveal

cozen, Friday, 6 August 2010 14:18 (thirteen years ago) link

won't that be difficult w/ different schemes (i.e. white on black or terminal?)

Eggs, Peaches, Hot Dogs, Lamb (remy bean), Friday, 6 August 2010 14:19 (thirteen years ago) link

An easy way to see a user's old posts would be nice - maybe put a link to 'previous posts' on the user's profile page, it's got to be good for something?

Ismael Klata, Friday, 6 August 2010 14:21 (thirteen years ago) link

stalking?

"It's far from 'loi' you were reared, boy" (darraghmac), Friday, 6 August 2010 14:21 (thirteen years ago) link

oh yeah, a sneaky bit of code to remotely turn on webcams would be good too

Ismael Klata, Friday, 6 August 2010 14:23 (thirteen years ago) link

re:spoiler, could do some fancy css to highlight on mouseover (wouldn't work in ie tho (but highlight still would)). would be fairly easy to customise for different schemes or could just leave it black on black whatever.

.spoiler { color: #000; background-color:#000; }
span:hover.spoiler { background-color: #fff; }

A "Hide This Thread" function.

My totem animal is a hamburger. (WmC), Friday, 6 August 2010 14:26 (thirteen years ago) link

I like cozen's idea. Good for inserting subliminal messages too **phwoar, smell my pants**

Chaim Poutine (NickB), Friday, 6 August 2010 14:26 (thirteen years ago) link

Not working yet :(

Chaim Poutine (NickB), Friday, 6 August 2010 14:27 (thirteen years ago) link

Hide this thread, or even just a way of removing the hollow bullet point from threads you clicked on but don't want to be reminded of the new answers upon any more.

Can you not get round that by removing the bookmark and then re-bookmarking?

I just removed the COCK and re-bookmarked the thread and there it is again, a huge COCK.

That thread's done now anyway but I'd still like to see this change as I use bookmarks all the time and end up not noticing amusing mod title edits.

i am so tired of clicking on rolling stupid crazy veggie swag thread

lol i never knew what the hollow bullet was for

call all destroyer, Friday, 6 August 2010 15:49 (thirteen years ago) link

i would heartily support a hide thread function--like if there was a megathread about a move or tv show that i hadn't seen i'd like to not be tempted to click on it

call all destroyer, Friday, 6 August 2010 15:49 (thirteen years ago) link

Hide thread would be awesome.

more lunacy and witchcraft! (kkvgz), Friday, 6 August 2010 15:51 (thirteen years ago) link

hey guys there is this function already! it comes pre-loaded, into your brain, and its called "self-control." thx.

QUEEN LATFH (LOLK), Friday, 6 August 2010 15:56 (thirteen years ago) link

thx max; didn't think of that :(

call all destroyer, Friday, 6 August 2010 15:57 (thirteen years ago) link

I still don't know what the hollow bullet is for, I swear there's no correlation between it and threads I've clicked on having new answers.

Merdeyeux, Friday, 6 August 2010 15:59 (thirteen years ago) link

If I had a modicum of self control, I would have wandered in here 10 years ago when Ned first posted the link going "ha, our friend Tom has made this site, check it out..." read it, going "wow, these people are mentalists" and never looked again.

However, me, I have this weird OCD that I can't stand seeing the little open bullet sitting there amidst all the normal bullet points and it irritates my sense of order so much I have to click on it to make it go away. ::sadface::

let me mansplain that to you (Masonic Boom), Friday, 6 August 2010 16:00 (thirteen years ago) link

make everyone mods

All I need is one day. I will be the Countess Bathory of modding.

ô_o (Nicole), Friday, 6 August 2010 16:00 (thirteen years ago) link

Although I like it, in that it tells me when threads I do like have new answers, what's irritating is that it gets tagged even when you click on a thread by mistake. Or if you click on a thread because you like the title, and then it turns out to be about FOOTBALL UGH and you can't make it gooo awaaaaayyy.

So sometimes I have to actually log out and look at a thread in order to make the little open bullet point not happen, in order to find out what the thread is before I figure out if want to follow it or not.

Welcome to the wonderful world of OCD, please wash your hands on the way out. No, really. And again, please, it will really bother me if you don't.

let me mansplain that to you (Masonic Boom), Friday, 6 August 2010 16:02 (thirteen years ago) link

Can it be set up that wehn using bookmarks you can get the option to go back a user defined number of posts or to the start of thread instead of just previous page?

State Attorney Foxhart Cubycheck (Billy Dods), Friday, 6 August 2010 16:04 (thirteen years ago) link

Current options 'View previous page' and 'Kill your browser' not good enough for you?

sorprendentemente noioso (onimo), Friday, 6 August 2010 16:16 (thirteen years ago) link

Or if you click on a thread because you like the title, and then it turns out to be about FOOTBALL UGH

I was on the verge of starting a thread entitled "New Aphex Twin album in the autumn" and filling it with posts about how Liverpool won't win the Premiership, but decided against it.

Matt DC, Friday, 6 August 2010 16:23 (thirteen years ago) link

I would actually hurt you, DC.

I know where you live.

I was thinking

"Check out this awesome Paisley pattern!"

then jpgs of St Mirren kit/Liverpool formations from 1979

sorprendentemente noioso (onimo), Friday, 6 August 2010 16:26 (thirteen years ago) link

"Aphex Twin's cock!"

Then pictures of Paul Scholes's cock.

Matt DC, Friday, 6 August 2010 16:27 (thirteen years ago) link

I can kinda relate to the OCD thing. When there are threads that I'm forced to enter for mod porpoises, I hate that there's now a little circle instead of a dot telling me 'you're missing something! you're missing something!' It's not hard to quash that feeling, but I hate having it in the first place.

And managing hidden threads would be as easy as managing bookmarked ones.
