I think I remember him claiming to be Tricky's half-brother. I haven't heard a word about Finley Quaye for 3-4 years or so, maybe my memory is a bit foggy.

Reviving.

Listened to Maverick A Strike on Sunday morning (after having stolen it from Emma's CD dungeon of stuff she bought ages ago and doesn't care for anymore) and really enjoyed all of it, near enough. I also found the NME review of Vanguard - Steve Sutherland giving it 9 and claiming it was the future of music, or something, cos it had nonsense lyrics and reggae rhythms and folk melodies, or something.

But certainly, several of the tracks on maverick I found really really good, the production sharp and clear and the rhythms nice and fat and head-nodding. Is Finley an "insufferable cunt"? Is he talented or did he fluke a decent album?

Reggae star Finley Quaye has pleaded not guilty to assaulting a woman in an allegedly racially aggravated attack in Edinburgh.

Quaye denies repeatedly spitting on Jobely Flores' face and striking her on the head to her injury in Leith Walk on 8 October 2011.

Mr Quaye was not at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Wednesday. His lawyer entered his not guilty plea.

A trial date was set for 24 August 2012.

Quaye, who now lives in London, was born in Edinburgh in March 1974 and won a MOBO for best reggae act in 1997.

He also won a Brit Award for Best Male Solo Artist the following year after securing two top 20 hits from his debut album Maverick A Strike.

His mum Sharon McGowan died when he was aged 10 and his father Cab Kaye was a jazz musician.

Quaye has worked with other musicians such as Iggy Pop, Primal Scream and West Indian musical legend Lee Scratch Perry.

Finley Quaye, who rose to fame because of a series of reggae-tinted britpop hits in the 90s’ has taken to his Facebook page to inform the world that he is having a hard time being homeless. Quaye has been homeless for 8 years and has suffered tremendously as a result. Here’s what he had to say:

Ok people I am in my 8th consecutive year of being homeless I have lost 2/5 of my body muscle mass in the last few years I am now at my all time weakest. I am literally skin and bone now, bones protruding . Any music loving Finley Quaye fans in London let me know if you can help I am willing to rent obviously, cant buy but I can rent. This isnt a new thing I have been homeless between the ages of 16 and 40, so many times. I have 22 teeth left at 40 years of age and unable to sing or smile and have been unable to smile for the past 10 years and unable to afford treatment. Have been drug and alcohol free for 90% of the past 10 years, in recovery since 2000. I am actually disintegrating, the last few years have been the worse and things have gotten harder, there are far less resources, prices have gotten higher and people have gotten meaner and less sympathetic, so it’s really tough.. often made to walk up to 25 miles a day every day. I went through hell in Berlin starving all the time lost so much weight there too, homeless, starved and nearly froze to death in Wales in 2006/7, people would observe but do nothing, I beseech you not to ignore me now. Please email me at finleyquayemu✧✧✧@gm✧✧✧.c✧✧ if interested or if you know anybody interested in helping.

think the promoter was way out of line there btw - sounds like a fairly dire performance but surely the audience could decide for themselves whether or not to sit through it.

promoter comes across as a total douche but he sounds a bit worked up so maybe he'd had a bad day

I did wonder, there are bad performances, there are dull performances, and there's no unanimosity as to what either are.

I heard similar horror stories about his Nottingham show, not long ago. Late, off his face, barely able/willing to perform, mass walkouts, Internet outrage from hacked off punters.

not his first assault either? I kinda want to feel sorry for him and the way his later years have been presented in the media as "lol remember him look what he's up to now!" but it's hard when he seems like a bit of a scumbag.

This fucking horrible. Can only hope the reason is mental health issues, rather than simply being a cunt

So because there was an element of racial abuse it's *racially aggravated* assault (rather than just assault) even though it wasn't him doing the racial abusing? That seems.. odd. Possibly just bad reporting.

Is it wrong to be more interested in knowing what pub he was drinking in?
