i <3 matthew bright too! freeway is one of my favorite movies. i saw tiptoes but barely remember anything about it, besides being surprised at how earnest it was.

bundy is interesting. i wouldn't say good. definitely unique. most movies about real life serial killers make them seem like kevin spacey in se7en but this movie portrays bundy as a sloppy bumbling nutcase who only gets away with his murders for so long because he chose random victims. which is a more honest approach but given the actual heinous crimes and victims involved it makes for a really upsetting, depressing viewing experience. at one point it's showing his cross-country murder spree and it shows a map of the US with wacky bloody splatter graphics popping up,

i still need to see a bunch of matthew bright-penned movies: shrunken heads, guncrazy, wildfire, after diff'rent strokes: when the laughter stopped.

love freewayses. downloaded shrunken heads a while back but have yet to watch.

six years pass...

I just saw Freeway 1 and 2 last night. This world needs a third film, please! Second film is sillier and the performance isn't as strong but I think they're still about equally good. I can't imagine what a new one would be like because there was something to offend wide swathes of people in both.

Need to see Tiptoes, then Dark Angel and Guncrazy (which might be proto-Freeway?)

Seen the trailer to Dark Angel: The Ascent. Not watching that.

"Kate Beckinsale agreed to star in the film for scale if she would be allowed to wear her "lucky hat" during filming, and Bright agreed.[1] On her first day of filming, the producers demanded that Bright tell her to remove the hat, and Bright refused, as this was the only reason she was in the film for a low salary.[1] Arguments between Bright and producers persisted during filming.[1]"

also kate beckinsale is really funny on instagram, or at least she is to me.

Okay but it really didn't look promising.

Read in his imdb bio that Richard and Danny Elfman protected him at school.

Guncrazy - Matthew Bright only scripted (Tamra Davis directed) this but it's definitely a warmup for the Freeway films, but it's a bit more serious and atmospheric. Drew Barrymore and James Le Gros are the naive but good hearted murderers this time.

eleven months pass...

Just watched Tiptoes, it's surprisingly moving, I just expected funny because of Bright's other films. How on earth did they make Oldman so convincing as a dwarf? Did they use magic on his legs? Weird how the whole cast of this is or was really famous but the film is mostly unknown. I didn't know Bridget Powers had ever acted in anything!

Everyone watch this please.

Really hope Matthew Bright makes more films someday.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Monday, 26 July 2021 17:31 (two years ago) link

Oldman is really lovable in this. Don't know if I felt sorry for him or what, but he's very sweet.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Monday, 26 July 2021 18:17 (two years ago) link

Just found out that this is best known as a film to shit on, ton of people saying it's one of the worst films ever made. Apparently some guy called Tosh reviewed it then that started a wave of people shitting on it. Depressing.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Monday, 26 July 2021 22:06 (two years ago) link

Matthew Bright was really unhappy with the finished film, but there's no way this is a terrible film.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Monday, 26 July 2021 22:07 (two years ago) link

Original version was a hour longer

Robert Adam Gilmour, Monday, 26 July 2021 22:19 (two years ago) link

Is that Tosh show for dumbasses? That would make me feel a bit better knowing that.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Monday, 26 July 2021 22:35 (two years ago) link

Yes, it is (was?) a dumbass show by a dumbass and for dumbasses.
