Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 10 May 2004 22:53 (nineteen years ago) link

get out of my dreams and into my pants

Allison (Allison), Monday, 10 May 2004 22:55 (nineteen years ago) link

She's back!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 10 May 2004 22:58 (nineteen years ago) link

so do you know of any other smart, sane DMB fans, Allison?

oops (Oops), Monday, 10 May 2004 23:01 (nineteen years ago) link

I do, actually. The smart, sane ones just know better than to argue with you lot.

Allison (Allison), Monday, 10 May 2004 23:06 (nineteen years ago) link

Man, I just read this whole thread. It was actually surprisingly entertaining...but 1700 posts!? Dave probably has a room posted with printouts of this thread, with his gold records on the wall...

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Monday, 10 May 2004 23:29 (nineteen years ago) link

yay! I was worried Allison had left us.

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 10 May 2004 23:31 (nineteen years ago) link

That RS cover is kinda scary.

Andy Jay, Tuesday, 11 May 2004 00:22 (nineteen years ago) link

It's like an issue designed for me to piss on.

haha, because a little birdie has told me that DM has a thing for golden showers...

abc, Tuesday, 11 May 2004 00:26 (nineteen years ago) link

No it's not.

It's VERY scary.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 00:27 (nineteen years ago) link

ugh

Andy Jay, Tuesday, 11 May 2004 00:28 (nineteen years ago) link

I wonder if Ryan Adams will close his website when this thread reaches 2000(and more?)?

Although i'd much rather listen to Ryan Adams/Whiskeytown than Dave Matthews.

Andy jay, Tuesday, 11 May 2004 00:30 (nineteen years ago) link

this thread = googler flypaper

Dave M. (rotten03), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 00:43 (nineteen years ago) link

As mentioned above, we're still waiting for the link to the DMB site where this thread is posted/linked ... Allison, do you know of this?

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 01:34 (nineteen years ago) link

Allison's still here! F'in excellent! All the other DMB defenders ('cept maybe Nag Pampa) came in, said "fuck you" and left, but she's the one who had the stones to stick around and make her case! At the risk of sounding either mushy or creepy or both: good to "see" you!

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 01:44 (nineteen years ago) link

Naga pampa even started some threads then just disappeared after a few weeks.

SHUT UP U STUPID FAGET ICP KICK EVREYON ASS THEY ARE THE ONLY TALINTED BANF AROUND AND YOU CAN SUCK MY DIK IF YOU DONT LIKE THEM

TRUJUGGALO (latebloomer), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 04:14 (nineteen years ago) link

Not aware of any DMB sites with links to this thread, I was referred by a friend.

Allison (Allison), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 11:10 (nineteen years ago) link

POINT OF ORDER: Dave Matthews Band is LIGHT-YEARS above Ryan Adams.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 13:06 (nineteen years ago) link

What's this new trend of misspelling homophobic slurs? It's faGGOT, people! If you must use it, at least spell it correctly.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 13:29 (nineteen years ago) link

SHUT UP U STUPID FAGET ICP KICK EVREYON ASS THEY ARE THE ONLY TALINTED BANF AROUND AND YOU CAN SUCK MY DIK IF YOU DONT LIKE THEM

maybe this guy was just trying to phonetically pronounce how typical DMB fans speak--kinda reminds me of an appalachian without proper dental care.....

i like the use of "FAGET"--maybe they pronounce it as if it were a french word....sorta like how people pronounce the discount store TARGET like "tar-jay"

waxyjax (waxyjax), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:05 (nineteen years ago) link

Typical fans do NOT speak like that, thank you.

Allison (Allison), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:14 (nineteen years ago) link

That guy was an Insane Clown Posse fan, people! How soon we forget...

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:14 (nineteen years ago) link

if you say so...however, it's safe to say that most contestants on those reality dating shows--ie ELIMIdate, Dismissed, the 5th Wheel--are remniscent of the DMB fans i know, and they'd most likely site "Crash into Me" as they're #1 turn-me-on song.

waxyjax (waxyjax), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:28 (nineteen years ago) link

Perhaps, but is it fair to assess worth based solely on their following?

Allison (Allison), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:35 (nineteen years ago) link

Typical fans do NOT speak like that, thank you

I don't know whether that's true .. but if the typical DMB fan that posts here were more like Allison, this thread would have died a year ago. (That's a compliment...) Glad you're back, Allison..

dave225 (Dave225), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:38 (nineteen years ago) link

Perhaps, but is it fair to assess worth based solely on their following?

It isn't fair but it happens to everyone (see for example any thread on The Cure).

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:39 (nineteen years ago) link

Assuming you're referring to the agnostic label of The Cure fans, simply listening to them would dismiss that false classification. Should be the same with DMB, no?

Allison (Allison), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:52 (nineteen years ago) link

no, not at all. in fact i have a few close friends from high school who really love Dave Matthews--and i tease them all the time about it (but it's all in good fun). back when i had no idea who he was, one of them took me to his concert for free. though i was among good company, all i could do was count down the minutes as the show droned on--although his fans find his marathon sets to be one of his greatest assets, i found it to be incredibly torturous...in fact, if i had to choose between having to stand around listening to a live performance of DMB for 3 hours while being surrounded by SUV-driving yuppies, truck-driving jocks, sorority girls and upper middle class hippies VS. being stuck in a developing country for two weeks while suffering sever dhiarrhea, i'd go for the bowel trip anyday.

in any event, an artist's following shouldn't dictate their worth. it just so happens that, in addition to the fact that i find his music annoying, the majority of his fan-base offers loads of comic material for those who find culturally homogenous, surban-america amusing.

waxyjax (waxyjax), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:52 (nineteen years ago) link

by the way, i was responding to this post:

Perhaps, but is it fair to assess worth based solely on their following?

waxyjax (waxyjax), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:54 (nineteen years ago) link

It should be, but there's an implicit assumption that anyone who hears DMB will like them which is just false.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:56 (nineteen years ago) link

The fact remains: Dave Matthews' music is DULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 15:06 (nineteen years ago) link

(hee hee that's an opinion)

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 15:08 (nineteen years ago) link

(gotta keep the thread going!)

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 15:09 (nineteen years ago) link

Is being dull worse than being bad? Just wondering what the difinitive ILM opinion is on this. I'd rather listen to bad than dull...

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 15:11 (nineteen years ago) link

Not saying that if you listen you'll like them, maybe slightly alter the general consensus that it's dull frat rock.

Allison (Allison), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 15:11 (nineteen years ago) link

Just because I feel like contributing to this thread again, I will note that my coworker with the Dave Matthews-related tatoo on her ankle has fairly eclectic tastes - her other favorite bands include Korn, Radiohead, *NSync/solo JC, Rage Against the Machine, and the Beatles.

Sadly, I can't stand any of those bands, either. (With the exception of a little *NSync.)

morris pavilion (samjeff), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 15:15 (nineteen years ago) link

i don't see it as JUST dull frat rock. like i said before, there a lot of rich, suburban granola hippies who also love DMB.

waxyjax (waxyjax), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 15:18 (nineteen years ago) link

fairly eclectic tastes

Not from where I sit!

maybe slightly alter the general consensus that it's dull frat rock

Or alternately confirm it...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 15:37 (nineteen years ago) link

Take it back!

Allison (Allison), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 15:40 (nineteen years ago) link

I think I'd also rather listen to bad than dull. With bad, there's always the unintentional comedy factor to provide entertainment (i.e. Limp Bizkit videos). With dull, you just don't give a fuck at all.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 16:13 (nineteen years ago) link

She also likes the Cure, Ned.

morris pavilion (samjeff), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 16:13 (nineteen years ago) link

That still doesn't make her tastes much more eclectic!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 16:23 (nineteen years ago) link

Well, for a non-ILMmy kind of person, I think they are.

morris pavilion (samjeff), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 16:30 (nineteen years ago) link

Most people don't like both Korn and the Beatles, Ned; be a little fair.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 16:31 (nineteen years ago) link

Hm, the way I'm thinking, it'll become more common with time (in a certain 'the Beatles are the greatest ever MAN -- and I grew up with Korn!' sense).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 16:34 (nineteen years ago) link

I am a gay faggot and i want to suck every man's dick in the world. I am half way to my goal. Who will be next. It could be you or you. But you wont know cause i will sneak up on you in the middle of the night and suck it. But the bottom line of this letter is that i really want to suck dave mathews dick.

-- dan creed (drock_1...), May 10th, 2004 2:11 PM. (later)

that's amazingly funny.

I'm halfway to my goal.

im gonna use that.
