Yay pictures of kittens. I will need them, have to talk to estate agent today :(

kv_nol, Thursday, 27 September 2007 08:16 (sixteen years ago) link

Just remember, Kv, the golden rule of buying a house is this:

When it's your turn to do something, it needs to be done NOW. When it's the turn of the estate agent/vendor/mortgage provider/solicitor, it doesn't need to get done for weeks, or possibly months.

If you remember this rule, you will be far less hassled and confused when documents are shoved at you and you are told to sign away 30 years' worth of salary in ten minutes, while a simple document search that your solicitor told you would get done today takes three weeks and 40 phone calls from you to accomplish.

accentmonkey, Thursday, 27 September 2007 08:55 (sixteen years ago) link

I have bought four houses in my life so far, and this has been my experience every single time.

accentmonkey, Thursday, 27 September 2007 08:55 (sixteen years ago) link

Did they ever go really quiet after you put the bid in? He said he'd call tomorrow and still hasn't. As colleague said: it's like I'm in love, I keep jumping when the phone rings :(

kv_nol, Thursday, 27 September 2007 08:58 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh god yes. Estate agents are the biggest wankers of all. (Sorry if anyone is or is fond of an estate agent.)

accentmonkey, Thursday, 27 September 2007 09:00 (sixteen years ago) link

Morning. Swallowing paracetamol and coffee while reading in the Metro that mixing paracetamol and coffee will kill me. Ho hum.

Great night last night. A few drinks and a bite to eat and a good gig and the company of the lovely Mrs O.

iLiKEiLiKETRAiNS. Mrs O thought they were a bit meh.

I bought a 7" and 10" single. I think that's my first 10" record in about 20 years!

onimo, Thursday, 27 September 2007 09:01 (sixteen years ago) link

iLiKEiLiKETRAiNS too, but I was stuck in the company of my mother-in-law who came in half an hour before the end of the football match I was watching whilst house-sitting and proceeded to talk all over it ("oh, is this important, what's the CIS Cup, oh, does this mean you win the trophy if you win this, are you winning, what's happening blah blah" and looked a bit perturbed that I wasn't just getting up and leaving her house, and just perched on a seat looking at me watching the football rather than go through to any of the other five rooms in her house). Then my mate phoned me with about three minutes to go and I couldn't get him off the phone. I'd much rather have been at a gig.

In other news, my dad was playing golf yesterday and the bloke he was playing with dropped dead of a heart attack right in front of him. He was pretty freaked out, as you can imagine.

ailsa, Thursday, 27 September 2007 09:08 (sixteen years ago) link

so hungover...having a gigantic glass of water with berocca....now have to do boring work

Ronan, Thursday, 27 September 2007 09:10 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh wow ailsa, that's horrible. Your poor dad.

Ronan you are onimoed, for shame.

Onimo you are you, for shame.

Accentmonkey, thanks. Having a bit of a panic this morning :(

kv_nol, Thursday, 27 September 2007 09:15 (sixteen years ago) link

Hangover isn't as bad as I'd expect it to be actually. Maybe because I was drinking Guinness.

I have to deal with Stuff I Was Supposed To Have Already Done at work today. Can't handle it.

onimo, Thursday, 27 September 2007 09:19 (sixteen years ago) link

House buying is nervy, but it'll be fine. What's for you won't go by you, and all that shite. That day we bought here was the longest day ever!

Onimo, skive off work early and Go Back To The Pub. You know you want to. I am available all afternoon, like a bad Jiminy Cricket to lead you astray :-)

Did that work??

Thanks Ailsa. You are being a bad influence on poor young onimo...

kv_nol, Thursday, 27 September 2007 09:31 (sixteen years ago) link

It did. Pity it's a good bit smaller than hoped... Ah well...

kv_nol, Thursday, 27 September 2007 09:31 (sixteen years ago) link

Hey Trish, the run was great! Made it in 32 minutes but I could have pushed myself a lot harder - the first 4k was incredibly nice and easy so when I saw the marker for the last km I tried to speed up a bit. The race was really busy so it was actually quite hard to get yourself going at a decent pace as you kept tripping over people. I really enjoyed it! A++ would run again :)

Hey - chaps who know about cooking! I want to make some ginger cake. The recipe calls for 1tbsp of molasses - would you reckon I can just substitute golden syrup for this? You see - I have some golden syrup. And I like it. And it's only 1tbsp right? I *think* it would probably do. Please advise! And then GO DOWN THE PUB.

Sarah, Thursday, 27 September 2007 09:34 (sixteen years ago) link

I have to be careful about arranging drinkies in the coming weeks. Mrs O pointed out to me that that was the first time we'd been out together (sans children) since our anniversary in July and that she'd only been out once since. I am a bad mang.

onimo, Thursday, 27 September 2007 09:34 (sixteen years ago) link

Pub lunch?

Wimp.

kv_nol, Thursday, 27 September 2007 10:06 (sixteen years ago) link

Bid rejected btw. Wondering what to do next...

kv_nol, Thursday, 27 September 2007 10:06 (sixteen years ago) link

Why is my Jebus vs Satan picture not appearing in my GET THEE BEHIND ME post?

onimo, Thursday, 27 September 2007 10:10 (sixteen years ago) link

They too have abandoned you... All that's left is Ailsa...

kv_nol, Thursday, 27 September 2007 10:16 (sixteen years ago) link

Looks like she's gone too...

kv_nol, Thursday, 27 September 2007 10:29 (sixteen years ago) link

I really enjoyed it! A++ would run again :)

I am strangely proud, despite having had nothing at all to do with this triumph. Good for you, missus.

Bid rejected, Kv? Go out and find another house you like.

accentmonkey, Thursday, 27 September 2007 11:14 (sixteen years ago) link

No, I'm back with my devil horns on, having scooted off for a job interview with the usual "aren't you a bit overqualified for this job, why don't you want a job in your own field" shite. IF I WANTED A JOB IN MY OWN FIELD I'D STAY IN MY OWN JOB AND NOT APPLY FOR THIS ONE, MORANS, GRRRRRR. T/S shiteloads of pressure and the thanklessness of yr bosses in return VS making an easy buck and getting to leave your work behind you at 5 o'clock and not turning into a weeping gibbering wreck.

Onimo, would now be a bad time to ask if we're going to the pub for dinner on Wednesday :-)

ailsa, Thursday, 27 September 2007 11:15 (sixteen years ago) link

kv, do you have more money to offer for the house? Do you want it badly enough to go over your initial bid? Try try try again :-)

(or find another house and repeat the whole painful process all over again)

ailsa, Thursday, 27 September 2007 11:17 (sixteen years ago) link

Well done to Sarah teh Running Womang!

I could probably manage a post work pre match beer on Wednesday ailsa.

onimo, Thursday, 27 September 2007 11:21 (sixteen years ago) link

Mrs O needs to be more proactive in arranging drinkying, btw. Me and Neil were talking last week about how the Glasgow going-out-for-meals thing has died on its arse, perhaps we should resurrect it?

ailsa, Thursday, 27 September 2007 11:24 (sixteen years ago) link

It's hard to proactively invent extra people to look after your baby.

onimo, Thursday, 27 September 2007 11:26 (sixteen years ago) link

You could look after the baby while she goes out! We'll come and look after them!

ailsa, Thursday, 27 September 2007 11:27 (sixteen years ago) link

(also, reason #143594 why I will never have kids)

ailsa, Thursday, 27 September 2007 11:30 (sixteen years ago) link

You could look after the baby while she goes out!
That wouldn't really be much of a night out together now would it?

We'll come and look after them!
Thanks for the offer but it's difficult enough to get Megan to stay with her Gran.

onimo, Thursday, 27 September 2007 11:30 (sixteen years ago) link

Bid rejected, Kv? Go out and find another house you like.

I know, the swine etc. Don't they know that I deserve it.

Ailsa, I do. I am currently thinking how likely I am to get it if I bid sightly below (just a couple of grand but it does make a difference to me) what I know is the cut off and I know that they're looking to rent again if they don't sell it. I know the estate agent wouldn't want to lose his commission so I need to lean on him I think. I just want to be clear that I'm doing the right thing for me. I do want this place though. It is great.

Well done Sarah!

Wednesday Onimo? One should never keep a lady waiting...

Ailsa, I thought you just joined that place. Sorry to hear it's not going well at the moment.

kv_nol, Thursday, 27 September 2007 11:51 (sixteen years ago) link

Onimo, I thought part of it was not just that you didn't go out together, but that she'd only been out once since your anniversary - maybe a couple of nights out on her own may redress the balance somewhat? We're quite happy to take the boys if the grans/aunts/uncles don't want all three - the Wii's set up for two players now :-)

kv, yes, I've only been there since April, but it is an awful awful place. I took six months out of this industry before money lured me back in, now I'm remembering in spades why I jacked it the last time.

*applauds Sarah*

ailsa, Thursday, 27 September 2007 12:10 (sixteen years ago) link

Thanks everyone! Here is a gormfull picture of me with my medal in the middle of saying "have you flipping well taken the picture yet Rob??":

http://www.flickr.com/photos/29632983@N00/1392802494/

Tek it by the silence on the molasses issue that golden syrup will probably get the job done? Good :)

I'm not sure if I'm going out after work for work pints, we were supposed to but one of us appears to be away and I haven't seen the other so I dunno now. If we aren't going out then i will get my baking ingredients tonight rather than braving supermarkets on Friday nights. I sort of like supermarkets on Friday nights though! Spot the singletons buying ready meals and bottle of wine for one (I feel a bit better cos I am a singleton buying fresh ingredients and a bottle of GIN for one :))

Sarah, Thursday, 27 September 2007 12:18 (sixteen years ago) link

Ha ha, class. Well done.

Are the fresh ingredients lemons? Then that doesn't count sadly :(

kv_nol, Thursday, 27 September 2007 12:20 (sixteen years ago) link

They WILL be fresh lemons actually cos I will be making lemon cake!

But the citrus fruit to put in gin has got to be LIME, not LEMON.

Sarah, Thursday, 27 September 2007 12:21 (sixteen years ago) link

Ha ha ha fair enough!

kv_nol, Thursday, 27 September 2007 12:23 (sixteen years ago) link

mmm gin...

We moved our kitchen cupboards around after we found Megan in the kitchen with a bottle of vodka (bad parents!) but now the drinks cupboard is what use to be the munchie snack crisps n sweets n tortillas n shit cupboard so every time I think "I fancy a wee snack" I am confronted with GIN and VODKA and WHISKY and RUM!

onimo, Thursday, 27 September 2007 12:23 (sixteen years ago) link

And the problem is?

kv_nol, Thursday, 27 September 2007 12:30 (sixteen years ago) link

If I had a snacks cupboard it would play the sound of a single lonely cricket chirping every time I opened it, and I would be even fatter than I am. SCOFF SCOFF CRISPS.

accentmonkey, Thursday, 27 September 2007 12:32 (sixteen years ago) link

That I have a job to keep and 3 children to look after? Also I get pished and can't find the munchies.

xpost

Details... details...

kv_nol, Thursday, 27 September 2007 12:33 (sixteen years ago) link

Aye, Megan was making several bee-lines for our kind of open-plan drinks cupboard last week too. Easy seeing who her dad is, eh?

Cuet!

kv_nol, Thursday, 27 September 2007 12:53 (sixteen years ago) link

good morning everyone. no kitten pictures yet. not that they would compare with cute kids and kid stories. We only a have a bottle of tequila in the house and it lives on top of the fridge.

Misery, Thursday, 27 September 2007 13:03 (sixteen years ago) link

mornin

Maria :D, Thursday, 27 September 2007 13:06 (sixteen years ago) link

Kv, have they called yet?

Misery, Thursday, 27 September 2007 13:23 (sixteen years ago) link

No Misery, I am consulting with family (groan) and solicitor (via text). I have agreement with one, sadly the other isn't the clearest in textmessages and also on holiday. I think I know the figure I'm going to go with. For now. I also have to contact builder with shopping list of things that need doing.

FUN!

Tequila = death for me, I'm afraid.

kv_nol, Thursday, 27 September 2007 13:42 (sixteen years ago) link

Tequila is the only liquor I can drink. I've sworn all others off the my personal health and general public safety.
