I can totally play "Crash into Me" on the guitar. And I really am the worst guitarist in the history of Christendom.

"And by the way to the faggets that don't know what they are talking about, Phish, Counting Crows, Dave Matthews Band and Bob Dylan are all the best. . . you may return to wasting you life."

I love wasting my love.

Not only does Dave Matthews come up with impossibly good lyrics

-- Rex Daines

He's right you know:

Dodo

Once upon a time
When the world was just a pancake
Fears would arise
That if you went too far you’d fall
But with the passage of time
It all became more of a ball*
We’re as sure of that
As we all once were when the world was flat

So I wonder this
As life billows smoke inside my head
This little game where nothing is sure, oh
Why would you play by the rules?
Who did, you did, you
Who did, you did, you

When was it killed
The very last dodo bird
And was she aware
She was the very last one

So I wonder this
As life billows smoke inside my head
This little game where nothing is sure, oh
Why would you play by the rules?
Who did, you did, you
Who did, you did, you
You say who did, well you did, you

If all the things that you are saying love
Were true enough but still
What is all the worrying about
We can work it out
We can work it

Oh I wonder this
As life billows smoke inside my head
This little game where nothing is sure
Why would you play by the rules?
Who did, you did, you
Who did, you did, you
You say who did, well you did, it’s you

Wow hahah I am truly suprised that some one who hates Dave Matthews would take the time to play crash into me the whole way through and that you could get some of the best musicians to play the rest of all the other instruments that make the rest of the band and I agree go waste the rest of your life

So did Allison just finally give up?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 7 May 2004 00:09 (nineteen years ago) link

Rex, I think it's cruel to condemn Britney Spears to hell just because she loves retards.

dave225 (Dave225), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:58 (nineteen years ago) link

And what the FUCK is it with Dave Matthews fans and poor grammar?

dave225 (Dave225), Friday, 7 May 2004 11:13 (nineteen years ago) link

I would like to state that all you Britney Spears loving retards can burn in hell.
Is there even a single Britney Spears fan on ILM? I've never heard any Ilxor members bigging up Britney.
I suspect we're Christina fans, really.

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Friday, 7 May 2004 11:32 (nineteen years ago) link

I've finally gotten around to reading large chunks of this thread

Are you mad!?!?!

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 7 May 2004 11:41 (nineteen years ago) link

I agree with rex daines... I looked on the dmb fan site and this thread is on there and whoever said that dmb fan have bad grammar I couldn't find one error in spelling.

This is so fantastic to me. "I will counter your claims of bad grammar with a run-on sentence! BOW DOWN!"

Alec, spelling and grammar are two different things. The grammar of the sentence you've written here, for example, is atrocious, although there aren't any misspelt words in it.
xpost oh sure Dan STEAL MY THUNDER

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Friday, 7 May 2004 19:47 (nineteen years ago) link

I hate to belabor the obvious, but other than the fact that his lyrics are middle-school (cf. the example above and the deathless "hike up your skirt and show your world to me"); and the fact that just about every song starts with an acoustic guitar intro before the band inevitably kicks in; and the fact that everyone says he and his band improvise when they don't, they just take long solos, there's also the fact that his fans say things like "you're just jealous" and "you don't UNDERSTAND his music" and of course "Britney Spears-loving retards" and "I hope you mothergrabbing faggets will go and die."

Maybe an artist shouldn't be held accountable for the irritating behavior of his/her fans, and from what I've read it doesnt seem like Dave Matthews himself would hold any views like that. But it's not easy to separate.

Rick Massimo (Rick Massimo), Friday, 7 May 2004 20:20 (nineteen years ago) link

I came across this site while looking for a choral arrangement of "Everyday." I don't understand how people can be so disrespectful to musicians who are making money off of what they do. Obviously they are doing something right because they make money, and lots of it. You hate the band, so what? Is it really that important to make that known that you have to dedicate a site to why that is? Someone has way too much free time on their hands. So, is everyone on this site that is bashing DMB a record executive who decides whether a band gets signed or not... no. So who cares what YOU have to say about how "bad" they are? Do you think people really care that YOU think "he sounds like a muppet," or that you think his lyrics are "middle-school?" Not really. So, a little piece of advice to all of you who think it's cool to bash bands who matter so much more than any of you will, get a life.

"Good music is good music and everything else can go to hell"
--Dave Matthews

Stacey, Monday, 10 May 2004 16:44 (nineteen years ago) link

If we matter so little, why did you bother to write anything?

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 10 May 2004 16:52 (nineteen years ago) link

Yeah, it's really not that important to tell others what we think about DMB, or any other musical artist for that matter. The name I Love Music should be changed to Music Just Isn't That Important So Let's Not Bother Writing About It Anymore.
I love this thread. It cannot be killed. It cannot die!

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Monday, 10 May 2004 16:59 (nineteen years ago) link

Whats everyones reasons for hating them? Particularly interested in the views of Americans.
-- John McAteer (j.mcateer200...), February 11th, 2003. (17 trackbacks)

This guy asked. Have you even looked at the top of the thread?

By the way, you do realize, don't you, that the Dave Matthews quote is completely cribbed from Duke Ellington and no doubt others? (To his credit, Dave Matthews probably knows this.)

Rick Massimo (Rick Massimo), Monday, 10 May 2004 17:02 (nineteen years ago) link

I looked on the dmb fan site and this thread is on there ...

Can we get a link to that page?

Also, still waiting for something from a DMB fan that's more compelling than "Dave is great. U R all Gay."

Ugh! Again with the money issue! Since when is the accumulation of wealth any indication of substance and/or quality? Fuckin' Insane Clown Posse have made a lot of money too.....are they then doing something right?

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Monday, 10 May 2004 17:20 (nineteen years ago) link

Hey Stacey, there is a great big difference between a thread and a site. "Someone has way too much free time on their hands", I'd say someone has a love for music so much that they dedicate not only hours listening to it, but also talking about it. Thats the whole reason behind the name, ILM, ...jackass.
Anyway, I'm sure most people here don't have that much free time on their hands, they are just enlisted in jobs were there is great access to the internet, i.e. such as college students, graduate students, journalists, etc. (Well at least I log in whenever my gels are running)
"So, a little piece of advice to all of you who think it's cool to bash bands who matter so much more than any of you will, get a life."
I'm so sorry we don't have a 'life', tell us what do you do in your free time, oh mighty god of all that is normal.
"bands who matter so much more than any of you will", Hey Stacey, you wanna make a bet?
I don't know why I waste my time bashing someone who'll never come to this site again.
Anyway, I agree, this thread must never die!!!!!

MODERATOR (Dan Perry), Monday, 10 May 2004 17:26 (nineteen years ago) link

oh my god....this thread really won't die.

I think everyone's entitled to their own opinion of music and it just so happens that the majority of people who regularly post on ILE dislike dave matthews band. It's not like any of us have gone on any DMB fan sites calling them "faggets" (by the way, Rex, it's spelled "faggots"--with an "O", not an "E").

It's one thing to go on this board, like Naga_Pampa did, and join in the debate--but it's another to act like some crazed fundamentalist Christian, calling us fags for discussing why we dislike DMB.

Please, Rex, get thee in a suit and on a bike and go on a mission spreading the gospel of DAVE and leave this board alone.
