BREAKING NEWS! - CNN CALLS MINNESOTA FOR OBAMA WITHIN 10 SECONDS OF THE POLLS CLOSING - BREAKING NEWS!

NURSES! WE AT FRUIT AT WORK! (John Justen), Wednesday, 5 November 2008 02:03 (fifteen years ago) link

i was enjoying the fakeout drama they were trying to pull about "Minnesota potentially still up for grabs oh no wait syke duh of course losers"

NURSES! WE AT FRUIT AT WORK! (John Justen), Wednesday, 5 November 2008 02:04 (fifteen years ago) link

I had a hard time imagining Minnesota going Republican this year of all years after not doing so since 1972...

So yeah, I am pleased with how fast we were called.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 5 November 2008 02:19 (fifteen years ago) link

Still waiting for more states to be called for Obama before I feel even remotely satisfied, though.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 5 November 2008 02:20 (fifteen years ago) link

Okay, so Ohio being called for Obama = me at least remotely satisfied.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 5 November 2008 02:30 (fifteen years ago) link

haha yeah i saw mccain 0% Obama 0% - we call Obama!

undiscovered cuntry (Rubyredd), Wednesday, 5 November 2008 04:52 (fifteen years ago) link

on a brighter note, MN looks like it is going to vote in a constitutional amendment that establishes a .75% addition to state wide sales tax that can only be spent on the environment and the arts!!!

for the next 35 years. not revokable.

NURSES! WE AT FRUIT AT WORK! (John Justen), Wednesday, 5 November 2008 04:55 (fifteen years ago) link

Drinking Points Memo (suzy), Wednesday, 5 November 2008 05:24 (fifteen years ago) link

I think it's going to be morning before that race is called.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 5 November 2008 05:29 (fifteen years ago) link

coleman is now 15000 votes ahead.

also, the envrio/art amendment is going to lose because people who didn't choose yes or no count as a no vote. t (o_O t)

NURSES! WE AT FRUIT AT WORK! (John Justen), Wednesday, 5 November 2008 05:46 (fifteen years ago) link

a country packed with ponies (sunny successor), Wednesday, 5 November 2008 05:47 (fifteen years ago) link

they printed it on the ballot but people didn't pay any fucking attention apparently or hate art and nature.

NURSES! WE AT FRUIT AT WORK! (John Justen), Wednesday, 5 November 2008 05:48 (fifteen years ago) link

i can kind of understand people hating art if theyre insane or something but nature??? DUDE, YOU ARE NATURE!!!!

a country packed with ponies (sunny successor), Wednesday, 5 November 2008 05:50 (fifteen years ago) link

Ahem ARTS ARE ALSO V V IMPORTANT! Esp if I relocate to mpls!

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Wednesday, 5 November 2008 06:12 (fifteen years ago) link

I voted for it, because it was just not that much money to add to the sales tax. I say that as a person with very little money! The only reason I might have opposed it is because it was such a small number that it would have been hard for my math-challenged brain to calculate (obviously no reason!).

SIGH

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 5 November 2008 06:17 (fifteen years ago) link

tza, please come here anyway - we need your votes!

And your company, of course. :)

YOU should stop the celebratrory drinking? try advancing six hours and imagining seagulls squawking outside your window as you contemplate whether another beverage is a good idea or not. :P

so glad i booked wednesday off work.

thanks (Upt0eleven), Wednesday, 5 November 2008 06:35 (fifteen years ago) link

i also know this because funding the arts = gov't grants for general operating expenses = possibly decent salaries for arts professionals like myself.

;n_n; (tehresa), Wednesday, 5 November 2008 07:53 (fifteen years ago) link

No idea. I have not seen any info other than from you guys about that one.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 5 November 2008 07:54 (fifteen years ago) link

On a totally different topic, I just want to say how awesome you all are and how much I <3 you all.

Thanks for the sanity-saving commentary, especially of late!

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 5 November 2008 07:55 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm afraid to wade into the election threads. Never good at catching up on long ones.

Congrats to those of you in blue states!

When they called it our street erupted in whoops and cheers, firecrackers were let off. I cried. Like a baby.

Hey ITR, I was so full of vodka when I got home last night.

The Franken thing is soooooooo crazy; do we know if the first count includes absentees/overseas? I would like him to win by ONE overseas vote - mine - and did not know that Barkley was 'stopped' for soliciting at the fitness centre across the street from my mom's office, or so says madre at any rate. That was the last useful contribution she made before going into meltdown over my Franken vote. WTF HE IS OUR ST LOUIS PARK HOMEBOY.

I <3 Keith Ellison so much. The margin of return is wonderful, since behind the Muslim novelty factor is a hardworking district Congressman of the old school. Obviously Bachmann's district will have to concern-troll her for all of the next two years or find something petty and illegal she's done and escalate the shit out of it until she has to go quietly.

Mom phoned to 'call' MN for me and is spitting nails, she's so pissed off. I very reasonably pointed out that when her guy won in less legitimate circumstances I didn't rail that hard so respect the moment, OK?

Drinking Points Memo (suzy), Wednesday, 5 November 2008 13:45 (fifteen years ago) link

I did not drink for fear of falling asleep but I was wide awake and even work up an hour early today. Too excited.

G did fall asleep but I shook him violently awake to watch the acceptance speech.

A socialist who's happy to spread the wealth (Susan), Wednesday, 5 November 2008 13:53 (fifteen years ago) link

i could not make myself go to bed til after 3 and now i am a week bit hungover. meanwhile, i have just noticed, while checking the mn senate race, that you have a county called "lac qui parle." really!? does mn have talking lakes!? bc that really might weigh heavily in my city choices.
