hillage's guitar playing on rainbow dome musick is just ridiculous

gottsching's "dream+desire" pwns anything on this thread.

Been listening to this a lot lately. It's really up there. I want to listen to those private tapes as well. They're kind of hard to find though.

e2-e4 is so unbelievable. it never ever gets old and every time i put it on i have to listen to it all.

trying rainbow dome musick now. have a lot of the other stuff and second the love for "sunrain", but any other more obscure recomemndations?

also e2-e4 is the greatest running music ever.

blackouts is my favorite, even more than golden age of earth

have you heard the two fripp + eno albums?

the late great, Thursday, 3 May 2012 21:56 (1 year ago) Permalink

the two from the 70s, i mean

enjoying rainbow dome musick a bit now... this is the sort of monged out shit i listen to at night. also think it could work for running though.

x-post no...

thanks for the tip on blackouts too, amazing, really diff from the other records, so much more jazzy.

damn, missed this debate. e2-e4 is great, but I way prefer Gottsching's other material. rainbow dome music turns my whole apartment into this glorious multi-colored jeweled room ... it's like inhabiting the same emotional realm the Neverending Story exists in or some late 70s-80s new agey fantasy realm. OK, I can't describe it properly, but it's pretty good.

so i finally grabbed a reissue of this and on first listen i'd say hobbes otm, it's also i think a more apt comparison to "rainbow dome musick". it reminds me of fripp and eno in that it sits in the middle ground between smacked out ambient ("new age of earth") prog ("blackouts") and purist german electronic vibes ("e2-e4").

i think the analogous fripp records would be "heavenly music corporation", "evening star" and "an index of metals"

not sure if we can map gong onto this scheme, hillage didn't seem to make deep inroads into this territorry

i was thinking of what musicians i'd add to this thread for discussion

A lot of mark mcguire's solo stuff has "inventions for electric guitar" vibes but he adds this high frequency distortion which I don't really like.

fell asleep last night working and listening to hillage albums

akm, Wednesday, 18 July 2012 05:48 (11 months ago) Permalink

I'd never listened to this Hillage album before. It's great but E2-E4 is in a whole other category of awesome.

The 1975 Franco Falsini "Cold Nose" reissue that came out on Spectrum Spools this year totally has the Rainbow Dome Musick/Inventions vibe.

Will the Private Tapes 6 CD set be released again in some form?

No, this was considered a strictly limited edition. But Manuel is thinking of some Private Tapes 7-12, which will surely be released one sunny day....
