HEROES!

onimo, Monday, 24 September 2007 22:27 (sixteen years ago) link

She didn't say Scots, did she?

Michael White, Monday, 24 September 2007 22:28 (sixteen years ago) link

That wasn't a spoiler just an OMG IT'S BACK kind of thing. I haven't even watched it yet.

onimo, Monday, 24 September 2007 22:31 (sixteen years ago) link

I don't think I can be arsed with Heroes this series. I thought it became very disappointing as it went along.

(Suddenly realises she is in the same position as the Americans and scans post for spoilers)

No, that seems safe enough.

Hey, I'm back from Amsterdam! It was great. I managed to drink two beers a day, smoke nothing, and still be knackered. I R LITEWAIT.

The best bit was when me and Rock Hardy and the Vicar and Rener went to Lelystad to visit the Batavia. It is, in some ways, the ideal day out for all the family, because you can go and visit the Batavia and climb all over a 17th century sailing ship, and/or visit the outlet mall next door.

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 07:20 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm guessing me and Onimo and Aldo will all be watching at around the same time, i.e. this evening after "work" (not that I have any work, but my husband does and I can't watch without him or he will know and he will kill me), and they hopefully know me well enough to know not to spoil.

ANYONE WATCHING HEROES TAKE DISCUSSION TO THE HEROES THREAD UNLESS IT IS NON-SPOILERIFFIC THANK YOU.

ailsa, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 07:22 (sixteen years ago) link

oh, and accentmonkey :-)

Hello, glad you had a good time in Amsterdam. When is it you are coming to Glasgow - I'm sure we can redress the lightweight balance for you.

ailsa, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 07:24 (sixteen years ago) link

I am coming over the last weekend in October. I will have to meet people Saturday day or night. I had hoped to stay over Sunday night too, but have to come home on Sunday because my brother is running the Dublin marathon on Monday, so I suppose I have to be here for that.

So that's Saturday, October 27th, accentmonkey fans.

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 07:30 (sixteen years ago) link

Excellent - Celtic are at home to Motherwell at 3pm, so that will account for Onimo's and my proximity to Glasgow that afternoon from about 5 o'clock onwards.

ailsa, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 07:38 (sixteen years ago) link

27th October is plenty of notice, I might manage to get a babysitter and take Mrs O out for a well deserved drink.

In other news, I am on my sons' school board (or "School Community Council" or whatever they're calling them these days)! Look at me getting all old and boring and public minded! They asked me to chair it but I shat it tbh. I don't think I made that great an impression at the end of the meeting when we were arranging the next one and I refused dates because they clashed with Champions League matches :)

OH FFS THESE NUMBERS ARE ALL WRONG.

OH FFS THESE NUMBERS ARE ALL WRONG.

Type slowly.

This is in the 'new' finance tool. Every time I run the process, it produces a different answer. And none of them are the right one.

To make things worse, this is for a table in an executive summary of an internal version of a management plan (not the external version, that's actually quite useful) that will probably never get read.

aldo, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 09:45 (sixteen years ago) link

If it'll never get read surely that makes things better?

onimo, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 09:56 (sixteen years ago) link

Neurotic Business Management Woman does not think so. "What if they check up?!?!!!???!! It needs to be right or I might get in trouble!!1!!!!11"

Anyway, I have managed to convince her, in a Tony Wilson style, to publish the myth.

aldo, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 10:34 (sixteen years ago) link

I love how this makes your actually quite cool and attractive wife sound like some sort of biddy in curlers who sits in a corner of a manky pub and drinks port and lemon (but just the one, mind, in case she'd be looking to get frisky when you get home).

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 12:04 (sixteen years ago) link

Does it? Oh dear. I just meant that she's been beyond tired lately and we haven't really had much of a chance to go out together.

onimo, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 12:06 (sixteen years ago) link

Hullo. I am too busy to write much. Great time had by all.

kv_nol, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 12:17 (sixteen years ago) link

Does it? Oh dear. I just meant that she's been beyond tired lately and we haven't really had much of a chance to go out together.

I think it's just that Mrs. O = Mrs. Overall in my mind.

Hi kev-lolz!

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 12:21 (sixteen years ago) link

Yo Ms Monkey. Glad Amsterdam was fun. Got my APA in post. Must thank the Rock.

kv_nol, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 12:27 (sixteen years ago) link

So that's Saturday, October 27th, accentmonkey fans.

A day before my birthday. Read it. Learn it. Remember it! ;-)

Check-up at OBGYN revealed 6 kilo weight gain. Nurse was waving her finger a bit (figuratively speaking) but OBGYN said that it had to be water retention. Otherwise doing fine (as can be). Head is down down down so ready for *squirting out*. hahaha And had a call from colleague's husband to say his wife already delivered. Two weeks too soon, but she's doing swell! Both are. Still the news gave me a slight panic attack: OH NOES! IT IS NEARING! :-)

nathalie, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 12:34 (sixteen years ago) link

I have your birthday written down in my moleskine (breathes sigh of relief that it's still a bit away). It seems like you just announced you were pregnant again!

The rest of you sound so together with your trips and school boards and socializing and what not. My life is so drab and consumed with work lately. Everything's going to hell in a handbasket and I'm going to be a basketcase. I also have wicked blisters on my feet due to wearing pretty shoes yesterday. Is teh suck.

Misery, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 12:46 (sixteen years ago) link

Ms. Mis is no longer a Ms? What's going on here pplz I am too tired to understand :(

kv_nol, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 13:33 (sixteen years ago) link

whoa yea wat's that??!!

Surmounter, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 13:37 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm trying to streamline my life.

Misery, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 13:42 (sixteen years ago) link

Ms. Mis, Rock took time out of our busy holiday to tell me of your woes at work. It all sounds ridiculous and scuzzy and unprofessional and I hope you can leapfrog up to a better position soon.

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 13:45 (sixteen years ago) link

Haha, that's funny! Nobody should be talking about my stupid job while enjoying Amsterdam! Hell, I shouldn't be talking about my stupid job.

It's actually okay b/c it's good to stay busy and occupied (in the day, I'm stayin' busy). Keeps the lethargy away.

I'm glad all you Heroes fans are happy. I don't watch it as I fell off after the first couple of episodes. It's like LOST where if you fall behind , you're screwed.

Misery, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 13:50 (sixteen years ago) link

I have almost clicked on the thread by accident twice today. But at least UNLIKE SOMEONE HERE I remembered to start my t0rr3nt this morning.

Also, isn't Mrs O being taken to see iLiKETRAiNS this week? Surely that uses up her 'going out' quota for the remainder of the year?

aldo, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:03 (sixteen years ago) link

I shall find fast t0rr3ntz and have HEROES at my disposal before the kids are in bed.

"Sorry I have to work tomorrow" was the latest message from prospective child minder. I still have a few irons in the fire and we shall go to iLiKETRAiNS even if we have to take the brats (assuming it isn't sold out of course, we didn't buy tickets because we haven't secured baby sitters).

I am about to phone my mother-in-law, wish me luck.

onimo, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:07 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeap.

aldo, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:08 (sixteen years ago) link

I has baby sitters :)

Bit of a panic there, Tickets Scotland didn't have iLiKETRAiNS tickets and I thought they'd sold out but they're on Ticketmaster. Think I'll probably just walk up the hill after work and have a sneaky Budvar save myself the box office reserve charge.

onimo, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:26 (sixteen years ago) link

Where is it? Not "Glasgow's legendary King Tut's where Oasis got signed and that"?

aldo, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:31 (sixteen years ago) link

The walk is good as not feeding the monster that is Ticketmaster. I would babysit for you but I think the round-trip's a bit long.

Misery, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:32 (sixteen years ago) link

"Glasgow's legendary King Tut's where Oasis got signed and that"

Indeed. I'll make a point of pishing on the Wonderwall in teh gents.

onimo, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:35 (sixteen years ago) link

There's a "wouldn't pish on Oasis if they were on fire" joke in there somewhere.

aldo, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:37 (sixteen years ago) link

So, Mister M has been asked to be on call Christmas Day and New Year's Day. In return for this terrible incursion on our free time, which will force us to stay at home on our own and scoff food and lay in bed late and not drive anywhere (terrible, right?), he is getting a free XBox 360.

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:42 (sixteen years ago) link

That sounds like a very good deal. I would welcome any excuse to avoid family drama on the holidays.

Misery, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:46 (sixteen years ago) link

WANT (xpost).

Tell him to go for that new limited editiony one. It's got a black case. I think.

kv_nol, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:47 (sixteen years ago) link

did ilx go down for anyone else for a few minutes between 10:15 and 10:45? or was it just me? i was terrified that it had been blocked @ work because i did slack off on it a lot yesterday... and then i was able to reach it via proxify... but once i opened a new firefox window, it worked normally. weird.

Will M., Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:55 (sixteen years ago) link

Hmm, what? I was down over here. . . No, kidding, no down time for me. Maybe they are on to you, Will.

Misery, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 15:25 (sixteen years ago) link

I was actually very scared and saddened to think that the funnest/easiest way to waste time at work (where I don't have much to do until the new site redesign goes live anyway) was GONE :(

It's here now, though! I think it was either a really, really subtle/passive aggressive warning, or a firefox cock up.

Will M., Tuesday, 25 September 2007 15:40 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh shit. I just put in a bid. Except it was a bid decided by me and solicitor without realising there was an active bid 14k higher. They haven't sent in Quantity Surveyor so here's hoping that they don't really care that much. The place will need 15-20k work, I'm not that pushed to pay more than my bid if it turns into a bidding war.

I have that awful sinking feeling that I screwed the pooch on this one people.

I am very, very scared :(

kv_nol, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 16:01 (sixteen years ago) link

:(

So you're afraid of being locked in on your bid? Is there anyway to retract it?

Misery, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 16:02 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh no. I'm worried about being outbid! I probably won't need to be retract I'll just be removed from the bidding. I feel better now. Absolutely DYING for a cigarette. MUST RESIST SWEET SMOKE OH DEAR JESUS STRESSSSSS

kv_nol, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 16:13 (sixteen years ago) link

hey, I had the Onimos round here last week. Don't believe his "I go out and leave the little lady at home" schtick, it's all LIES.

ailsa, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 16:24 (sixteen years ago) link

(ok, the kids were round too, and Mrs O wasn't drinking as she was on driving duty, but still, it's a sort-of night out, isn't it?)

ailsa, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 16:25 (sixteen years ago) link

the kids were round too

This bit is U&K and why we're walking around like half shut knives all the time.

onimo, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 18:53 (sixteen years ago) link

Half shut knives. Love it.

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:30 (sixteen years ago) link

Hey, I was at my first Italian class! Mi chiamo Trish!

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 21:34 (sixteen years ago) link

Patrizia, come stai?

Michael White, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 22:31 (sixteen years ago) link

Er, I don't know how I am yet, Michael. We only got as far as saying who we are and where we come from. Like the scouts.

But I'm guessing an acceptable answer to "come stai?" is "va bene", si?

My two favourite words so far are "piacere" and "salve". I didn't know people outside classical Rome got to say "salve". Deadly stuff.
