A collision of two tough players, each with a remarkable story, will take place today and tomorrow in the final of the world snooker championship.

Indeed!

StanM, Sunday, 2 May 2010 09:03 (thirteen years ago) link

ok what have i always said about this guy

Didn't you always say he was boring? Well, now he isn't - just like Tiger Woods.

That 47 break was phenomenal. Exhibition snooker on acid or what? For two of the three frames that he needed to win it was until the 40 break on the final one that had any control of the cue ball for the basic bread-and-butter shots.

Anyone see Robertson's interview yesterday after the game...got all tearful after saying that on what might have been his final go at the sport he arrived in the UK and was down to his last 500 quid.

Can see Robertson leading after the first day but Dott coming back and this being quite close...we'll see.

BBC News breaking news ticker: "Suspended snooker champion John Higgins denies being involved in match-fixing"

StanM, Sunday, 2 May 2010 14:49 (thirteen years ago) link

He said he was scared and just went along with it.
"I'm 100% guilt free" he said in statement just before snooker started.

9-7 will be an amazing feat for dott

cozen, Sunday, 2 May 2010 21:50 (thirteen years ago) link

... and he gets it. What a scrappy affair, this match. Exciting, but let's hope they both get a good night's sleep, eh?

StanM, Sunday, 2 May 2010 22:40 (thirteen years ago) link

Never seen someone looking so exhausted as Dott in that second session.

Here is hoping for more fluidity today.

xyzzzz__, Monday, 3 May 2010 09:20 (thirteen years ago) link

who has the more embarrassing hair here. dott with the plugs or the feathered bondi barnet of robbo?

Times New Excels At (jim in glasgow), Monday, 3 May 2010 14:23 (thirteen years ago) link

are they plugs?

Michael B, Monday, 3 May 2010 15:35 (thirteen years ago) link

At this pace they're not going to have a very long break between the sessions, if there's going to be one at all.

StanM, Monday, 3 May 2010 16:18 (thirteen years ago) link

are they plugs?

don't think so.

nice century there by dott.

Times New Excels At (jim in glasgow), Monday, 3 May 2010 17:10 (thirteen years ago) link

not plugs, just thinning hair with gel.

not_goodwin, Monday, 3 May 2010 17:13 (thirteen years ago) link

Er, only 6 frames in this session then?

StanM, Monday, 3 May 2010 17:20 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, originally eight frames but last session has to start by 8pm so it can be cut short to allow enough for a break.

xyzzzz__, Monday, 3 May 2010 17:43 (thirteen years ago) link

Ah. Thanks, did not know that.

StanM, Monday, 3 May 2010 17:44 (thirteen years ago) link

Didn't really want these 2 in the final, but if Dott's had a mini siesta, it could be interesting.
Will go with bed-head to win though.
Whoever wins, will cry i'm guessing?

not_goodwin, Monday, 3 May 2010 18:56 (thirteen years ago) link

Dott's crying already (I know, I know, it's just his face, he can't help it)

StanM, Monday, 3 May 2010 19:05 (thirteen years ago) link

Robertson's got another three gears, so I kinda expect him to cruise the rest. Dodgy positional play will always be his weak-spot, though...

sausage s4rgent (acoleuthic), Monday, 3 May 2010 19:06 (thirteen years ago) link

Think 60-40 chance on Robertson winning...but I thought Selby would beat Dott and he didn't.

xyzzzz__, Monday, 3 May 2010 19:08 (thirteen years ago) link

who's actually supporting Dott

sausage s4rgent (acoleuthic), Monday, 3 May 2010 19:13 (thirteen years ago) link

We need a new boring resilient dogged Scotsman now that Higgins is mildly interesting.

mierda defensa ... no impedir ... espectador (onimo), Monday, 3 May 2010 19:14 (thirteen years ago) link

we definitely don't

sausage s4rgent (acoleuthic), Monday, 3 May 2010 19:15 (thirteen years ago) link

especially not one who's already boringed his way to one world title

sausage s4rgent (acoleuthic), Monday, 3 May 2010 19:16 (thirteen years ago) link

Wonder how many titles Higgins threw at O'Sullivan for cash pounds...

mierda defensa ... no impedir ... espectador (onimo), Monday, 3 May 2010 19:16 (thirteen years ago) link

Also wonder if Steve Davis is questioning the value of his recent giant killing...

who's actually supporting Dott
he's getting a few cheers and c'mons!

not_goodwin, Monday, 3 May 2010 19:17 (thirteen years ago) link

from british nationalists

sausage s4rgent (acoleuthic), Monday, 3 May 2010 19:18 (thirteen years ago) link

I was just going to hint at how suspicious the lack of centuries was in the final, as if they didn't dare score one because they knew the world's mafia was betting on it and the snooker police was watching their every move, and then Dott made one. :-/

StanM, Monday, 3 May 2010 19:19 (thirteen years ago) link

also, no lady ref for final?
too busy pissing about with silly quiz's with old snooker players.

not_goodwin, Monday, 3 May 2010 19:19 (thirteen years ago) link

awesome self-snooker there from the dottster

sausage s4rgent (acoleuthic), Monday, 3 May 2010 19:20 (thirteen years ago) link

i wish!

also
i like Robertsons foundation, really brings his eyes out ;)

not_goodwin, Monday, 3 May 2010 19:22 (thirteen years ago) link

What a RILF, eh?

StanM, Monday, 3 May 2010 19:23 (thirteen years ago) link

She's no Len Ganley.

mierda defensa ... no impedir ... espectador (onimo), Monday, 3 May 2010 19:26 (thirteen years ago) link

Cozen is supporting Dott..

xyzzzz__, Monday, 3 May 2010 19:27 (thirteen years ago) link

also, no lady ref for final?

Very disappointed Michaela only refereed the SF.

xyzzzz__, Monday, 3 May 2010 19:30 (thirteen years ago) link

RILF indeed :)
She has had a bit of favouritism, tis unfair to the guys who were here before her.

not_goodwin, Monday, 3 May 2010 19:46 (thirteen years ago) link

So far it looks like the match carries on in a similar pattern: neither play really putting on any sustained fluency.

Looks like all is going to depend on how well Robertson can hold himself together in the final frames.

xyzzzz__, Monday, 3 May 2010 19:54 (thirteen years ago) link

What a strange succession of great and then terrible moments from both of them, all throughout this final.

StanM, Monday, 3 May 2010 20:03 (thirteen years ago) link

Funnily enough I think if Dott was not going for almost everything and playing more tactical stuff he'd get this. In the last frame he went for this stupid red instead of playing safe.

xyzzzz__, Monday, 3 May 2010 20:13 (thirteen years ago) link

Just out of interest, how many of you actually play the game?
I do and love it!

not_goodwin, Monday, 3 May 2010 20:15 (thirteen years ago) link

I dabble now and then. Want to get back into it. My friend's a new convert so who knows...

sausage s4rgent (acoleuthic), Monday, 3 May 2010 20:19 (thirteen years ago) link

Never touched a snookerbat in my life.

StanM, Monday, 3 May 2010 20:20 (thirteen years ago) link

These guys make it look pretty easy though.

StanM, Monday, 3 May 2010 20:21 (thirteen years ago) link

Dabbler too (snooker and pool), would def like to get more into it..

xyzzzz__, Monday, 3 May 2010 20:22 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm actually supporting dott

the other dude's a haircut

cozen, Monday, 3 May 2010 20:23 (thirteen years ago) link

I wish Dott'd be a little more stoic and stop making faces at his fans. :-/

StanM, Monday, 3 May 2010 20:24 (thirteen years ago) link

british nationalists lmbo

robertson used to be fat
