Hey rubes, for some reason you haven't updated your blog since you got to the US - will this shameful state of affairs continue?

Mark C, Sunday, 13 July 2008 17:02 (fifteen years ago) link

"for some reason" lol

mark, i recommend some whiskey.

tehresa, Sunday, 13 July 2008 17:13 (fifteen years ago) link

How medicinal is red wine? I really want a glass but it's only 6pm...

And you call yourself Italian...

Upt0eleven, Sunday, 13 July 2008 17:15 (fifteen years ago) link

blog will be updated tomorrow! haven't really had time, but jordan has to go back to work tomorrow, so i'll have 8 hours to kill :(

i've been ducking in here to post a little whenever jordan checks his email or we're just on our way out, because i MISS you guys! but tomorrow i will make a big detailed post on my thread about the last few days and also the weird experience i had at customs.

Rubyredd, Sunday, 13 July 2008 19:48 (fifteen years ago) link

i had my first burrito yesterday! it was nice, except that i forgot cilantro is coriander - which tastes like soap to me - and i got it with this cilantro/lime/rice stuff.

Rubyredd, Sunday, 13 July 2008 19:54 (fifteen years ago) link

oh no you are one of THOSE.

have you burgered yet?

tehresa, Sunday, 13 July 2008 19:56 (fifteen years ago) link

mmmmm cilantro... mmmmmm

Sara R-C, Sunday, 13 July 2008 21:37 (fifteen years ago) link

SARA WILL EAT YOUR TOES

HI DERE, Sunday, 13 July 2008 21:38 (fifteen years ago) link

Only if I think you're special, though.

Sara R-C, Sunday, 13 July 2008 21:44 (fifteen years ago) link

Deep fried toes.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 14 July 2008 03:09 (fifteen years ago) link

yes tza, i am one of those people... but i can't help it!

have not burgered yet - jordan wants to take me to the best burger place here in oakland, which he has thoroughly researched, but i just can't bear to make him watch me eat a big meaty object.

Rubyredd, Monday, 14 July 2008 03:16 (fifteen years ago) link

Awwwww, you guys are both so sweet!

Maybe the place has a lovely veggie burger that he could enjoy? You are in Oakland, after all.

Sara R-C, Monday, 14 July 2008 05:31 (fifteen years ago) link

this just in: working -- still for losers

tehresa, Monday, 14 July 2008 15:47 (fifteen years ago) link

Thank you for reminding me, this evening I go to the fullbright commission so they can tell me how I can get my school paid for and stop working.

Ed, Monday, 14 July 2008 15:55 (fifteen years ago) link

i want one!!!

tehresa, Monday, 14 July 2008 16:26 (fifteen years ago) link

I would like to be paid to read, watch movies, and sleep.

Sara R-C, Monday, 14 July 2008 17:00 (fifteen years ago) link

hells yeah, i need a nap right now. at least boss won't be here for another 30 min or so. but then i will just want to shoot myself. oh yeah, btw, back on the job hunt but at least i'm getting paid for now?

tehresa, Monday, 14 July 2008 17:02 (fifteen years ago) link

i desperately need more coffee but i can't leave.

tehresa, Monday, 14 July 2008 17:02 (fifteen years ago) link

I am paid to read and watch movies - except that sort of doesn't work as I'm expected to do both those things outside of office hours.

Mark C, Monday, 14 July 2008 17:09 (fifteen years ago) link

then what do you do during office hours?

tehresa, Monday, 14 July 2008 17:14 (fifteen years ago) link

Well, it would still be all right if they would then pay you to sleep at the office. ;)

Sara R-C, Monday, 14 July 2008 17:14 (fifteen years ago) link

Mark your job is totes awes.

I don't get paid for anything anymore. But while i was in the pub watching the cricket this afternoon a recruitment agent phoned me up and lined up two interviews for this week.

Upt0eleven, Monday, 14 July 2008 17:14 (fifteen years ago) link

Yay on the job interviews! Sounds promising. :)

Sara R-C, Monday, 14 July 2008 17:21 (fifteen years ago) link

fanks :) just shows what you can achieve when you set your mind to it daytime drinking.

both companies seem quite fun and young and google-esque but i think i'll just be happy as long as i can cycle to work.

Upt0eleven, Monday, 14 July 2008 17:38 (fifteen years ago) link

that is v v important for quality of life. since giving up on driving to work i have been A++++++ excited about pretty much everything.

remy bean, Monday, 14 July 2008 17:39 (fifteen years ago) link

What he said. Then again I never drove to work.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 14 July 2008 21:55 (fifteen years ago) link

i don't drive to work but an hour on the subway with 2 transfers is also not healthy.

tehresa, Monday, 14 July 2008 21:56 (fifteen years ago) link

If I could take public transportation to school, my life would be vastly improved. So much less gas money and so much more study time...

Then again, subway = underground = I get paranoid about earthquakes due to having seen too many disaster films as a child.

Sara R-C, Monday, 14 July 2008 22:15 (fifteen years ago) link

i just miss daylight. also, i find it really hard to study on the train; i don't retain anything, so i use it as podcast time, but now i am supersad bc a) ipod seems to not work anymore and b) npr canceled my favorite show (i.e. 2 hours worth of podcast daily).

tehresa, Monday, 14 July 2008 22:17 (fifteen years ago) link

Yes, I'm probably thinking it would be more productive than I think it would. Mostly I am just panicked about the driving I'm going to have to do for school in the fall. I should really listen to podcasts while I drive back and forth at least... I got out of that habit this past spring somehow.

What was your favorite podcast from NPR?

Sara R-C, Monday, 14 July 2008 22:23 (fifteen years ago) link

JOHN I AM COMING TO THE CITIES ON WEDNESDAY. If you guys are free that night, I might be able to come see your house. I am coming up for a meeting at 4 pm, but then planning to go to dinner with nursing school friends - so it would be later in the evening.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 15 July 2008 01:13 (fifteen years ago) link

Is ITR dead? Guys?

Mark C, Tuesday, 15 July 2008 16:08 (fifteen years ago) link

The shocking possibility that I could be in the Twin Cities has obviously stunned everyone into silence FOREVER

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 15 July 2008 16:19 (fifteen years ago) link

I've spent the past 24 hours trying to catch up on laundry and to figure out how I ever get anything accomplished when my children are home. (Answer: I don't)

But hey, we're going swimming this afternoon, so that's good.

AFAIK, we should be around after 7 tomorrow sara

BLACK BEYONCE, Tuesday, 15 July 2008 17:42 (fifteen years ago) link

just watched "F is for Fake" and now need coffee.

not related.

BLACK BEYONCE, Tuesday, 15 July 2008 18:10 (fifteen years ago) link

I have no idea what that is. We watched Wordplay last night and now all we want to do is work NYT crossword puzzles. However, I could use some coffee myself.

Let me know if anything changes re: tomorrow night. I will put your address in my GPS and plan to come see your house after evening bitch session with other nursing students. And hey, this time I probably won't wind up sitting on your couch until morning!

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 15 July 2008 18:16 (fifteen years ago) link

Hmmmm, wait, is there anything weird I should know about the route from St. Paul to your house that the GPS might not acknowledge? Like, I don't know, bridges out or closed or whatever?

I could look at a paper map if I had to, but it's not the Hastings Way.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 15 July 2008 18:17 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm glad to know that I won't have to try to swim to John and K's house.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 15 July 2008 19:10 (fifteen years ago) link

i have been surprised by how NOT hot it is here. i was, honestly, really scared about how i was going to cope with the heat, but it's not even that warm. it's actually jordan who's the sissy about heat: he sleeps with this huge fan blasting in his face, while i've got two blankets piled on top of me and tucked up under my chin.

Rubyredd, Tuesday, 15 July 2008 19:36 (fifteen years ago) link

you're calling HIM out for being the sissy about the heat while you snuggle up under blankets?

THIS tell me that it is you who is wussiest.

not that i have a bleedin' clue about Fahrenheit mind.
