Yeah it's been in my queue for a while, I think it's next after Zardoz.

voting for Tim Olyphant because his character was the coolest guy (told the closest to funny votes*, dived crotch first into a campfire) and not because he regularly plays awesome sheriffs. i just want to make that clear.

*Tom Jane's "east of the Mississippi?" outtake doesn't count

I still love this section of the plot synopsis on wiki:

Henry and Owen arrive at the home of Duddits, who reveals that Mr. Gray is headed for Quabbin Reservoir to pollute the water with a Weasel. Arriving at the reservoir, Owen is ambushed by Curtis' helicopter. Owen shoots Curtis down, but dies from his wounds. Henry takes Owen's weapon and kills Mr. Gray's Weasel. Duddits confronts Mr. Gray, who finally comes out of Jonesy's body. Duddits turns into an alien creature himself and attacks, causing both aliens to explode in a cloud of red dust which briefly resembles a dreamcatcher. Jonesy, now back to normal, smashes a final larva that was about to contaminate the water. The world is saved.

love endings like this that close with a minimum of fuss. no parting narration or crane shot, epilogue or even swelling music, just a dude squashing a bug. You're welcome, audience!

book version ends with a long-ass chapter of the surviving bros sitting by the pool being all 'pass me some of that post-facto exposition over there, thanks."

thanks! scary how often i turn to this film when up at either end of the ass crack of dawn, unable to sleep and unable to ingest something i haven't seen before. not too loud that i can't websurf while watching, but guaranteed to reward when i look at the screen.

something about the holy "jonesy? JONESY!" thing was a huge running joke for me and one of my buddies... i think it was maybe in the trailer, that's how the joke got started, and when the movie actually ENDED like that, it blew our minds

nitzer Ed (s1ocki), Thursday, 22 April 2010 22:30 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah the part in the trailer where mr. gray says "JONESY!" always stuck out in my mind before ever seeing it

almost forgot about how dudditz calls mr. gray "mr. gay"

i'm continually grateful that i was bored enough to watch this on cable one afternoon before ever hearing about how nuts it was, such a bounty of surprises

some dude, Thursday, 22 April 2010 22:40 (fourteen years ago) link

iirc he calls him "mithtuh gay"
