Might as well be, I don't stand much of a chance.

It could very well be time to start a new thread, ya herd.

ModJ (ModJ), Sunday, 25 January 2004 05:41 (twenty years ago) link

THE. THREAD. THAT. WOULD. NOT. DIE.

Maybe someone should lock it. I mean, people are going to keep posting because there is an endless amount of reasons why they are hated.

Aja (aja), Sunday, 25 January 2004 05:45 (twenty years ago) link

...all of them correct, btw...

ModJ (ModJ), Sunday, 25 January 2004 05:53 (twenty years ago) link

Well yeah!

A co-worker of mine recently got a DMB-related tatoo on her ankle.

Calling your band "The Dave Matthews Band" after "Dave Matthews" is like prefacing everything you say with "We have no ideas, but...".

I'm buying you a pizza.

Stupid (Stupid), Sunday, 25 January 2004 18:23 (twenty years ago) link

there needs to be threads like this!
i say, more bands need people to tell them when enough is enough.
for DMB, that should've been around 1996.
possibly sooner based on the amount of bad impersonators that have been spawned in their evil wake...

ok, not evil, just dumb.

eedd, Sunday, 25 January 2004 22:42 (twenty years ago) link

It's like comparing Backstreet Boys to George Bush...there is no comparisson.
This comment needs its own thread.

sym (shmuel), Sunday, 25 January 2004 22:59 (twenty years ago) link

Both provide a funky new perspective on either bubblegum tradition or foreign policy.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Sunday, 25 January 2004 23:01 (twenty years ago) link

Both would benefit from the nailgun treatment.

sym (shmuel), Sunday, 25 January 2004 23:03 (twenty years ago) link

both are severely averse to significant others (girlfriends; Western countries) wanting it in a way that they are unwilling to hear about

Grammys to include Beatle tribute

The Beatles' debut on the Ed Sullivan Show attracted 73m viewers
Sting will be among artists staging a special tribute to The Beatles during Sunday evening's Grammy Awards ceremony, it has been announced.
The tribute will mark the 40th anniversary of the Fab Four's first US television appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show.

Rock singer DAVE MATTHEWS, R&B star Pharrell Williams and country singer Vince Gill will also join the tribute.

Other stars to perform at the Grammys include Prince and Justin Timberlake.

The Beatles' tribute marks a landmark event in US television history - when the group appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show on 9 February 1964.

Beatlemania

The appearance is credited as the moment when Beatlemania crossed the Atlantic, with an estimated 73 million people tuning in to see the show, with crime rates reportedly dropping in US cities during the broadcast.

Sting is among musicians lined-up for the tribute

The group performed I Want To Hold Your Hand, She Loves You, All My Loving, Till There Was You and I Saw Here Standing There.

They went on to make three more appearances on the show.

This year's Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles - the 46th - will also include live appearances by the Black Eyed Peas and Beyonce Knowles.

Knowles is among the leading contenders with six nominations - the same number as rap star Jay-Z and R&B-hip-hop act Outkast.

Timberlake, Eminem and Missy Elliott are among nine artists with five nominations each.

Why not:

Many people agree the Dave Matthews Band SUCKS!!!

Aja (aja), Thursday, 5 February 2004 00:22 (twenty years ago) link

Not me!!

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Thursday, 5 February 2004 02:58 (twenty years ago) link

I didn't say everyone.

You like the Dave Matthews Band?! How can you?

Aja (aja), Thursday, 5 February 2004 03:04 (twenty years ago) link

Because their songs are catchy and they're all, like, ridiculous virtuosos on their respective instruments. Especially their drummer, Carter Beauford. That guy belongs in some kind of drummer's hall-of-fame. Ever heard the live version of "Lie in Our Graves"? Jeez, how the FUCK can ANYBODY play that fast?

This thread is funny.

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Thursday, 5 February 2004 03:20 (twenty years ago) link

You're crazy!

Aja (aja), Thursday, 5 February 2004 03:23 (twenty years ago) link

What kind of cookies?!
erm ... how about chocolate chip? i could also make some nice banana/caramel muffins.

Jay Kid (Jay K), Thursday, 5 February 2004 10:27 (twenty years ago) link

I hate bananas. Love caramel though.

Dave could vindicate his existence if he were to release the following as a limited edition single:

"It's Not Easy Being Green" b/w "The Rainbow connection"

with Apologies to Jim Henson and Sam Pottle
(sing this to the tune of "Muppet Show Theme")

It's time to play the music
It's time to light the joints
t's time to meet Dave Matthews on the Dave Matthews Show tonight.

It's time to put up with him
It's time to look up her dress
It's time to raise the curtain on the Dave Matthews Show tonight.

(Alex in NYC and Nick Southall as Waldorf and Statler)
Why do we always come here
        I guess we'll never know
It's like a kind of torture
To have to watch the shmoe

And now let's get things started
Why don't you get things started
It's time to get things started
On the most diabolical irritational coprophagial Daveatastical
This is what we call the Dave Matthews Show!

Aja == most brilliant ILM member.

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Saturday, 7 February 2004 06:33 (twenty years ago) link

Thank you!

Aja (aja), Saturday, 7 February 2004 06:40 (twenty years ago) link

Wow. All I can say is that I spent my entire evening reading this whole thread. I normally post more to ILE than ILM, but the beauty of this thread has made me begin to reconsider that approach.

Allison, I thought the first album was decent. I seem to recall liking at least 4 of the songs, particularly "So Much to Say." I did listen to the next two albums. More than once even, and nothing particularly caught my interest. I mean nothing. In fact I found it odd that the stuff was so devoid of anything that might make me notice. I mean, not even one little spot where I went, "oh, that's kinda cool." I was aware of being bummed that the stuff I liked on the first record didn't even appear briefly on the others.

I hope that makes you feel a little less alone on this thread.

For the record, I like Killing Joke, though not as much as Alex. And my favorite band is They Might Be Giants, and I'm not afraid to admit it even though I know there are folks around here who may give me shit for it.

martin m. (mushrush), Saturday, 7 February 2004 11:30 (twenty years ago) link

I don't even know what the first album is. I guess you're talking about UTTAD, which is still one of my favorites but not the best. I'm surprisd that more ILMers don't stick up for BTCS, the only reasons for this that I can think of is that they haven't heard it(it is one of the lesser known albums) or just don't care. I've already admitted that anything released after crash is corporate shit. In fact, the only reason I stick it out here is because I know the older stuff, their only music worth listening to, is sadly being either overlooked or brushed aside. You're missing out.

Allison (Allison), Saturday, 7 February 2004 14:33 (twenty years ago) link

could we possibly devolve this thread any further?
i mean, if we could totally derail it into kittens and cookies for another 100+ posts, i'd be totally happy.

in fact, let's just go with kittens.
maybe kittens with anti-DMB propaganda...
hmmm, nah!
kittens. just kittens.

oooooh, OR ferrets playing.
a room full of ferrets playing!!!
sweet mother of gawd, what fun!!!!!!!!
