i miss nice & smooth ;_; ;_;

apparently, this site has an interview with guru explaining what "dwyck" means:

GURU: “It was just a slang that we used to use back then. It was like a slang thing we used to do. Greg Nice used to do it to everybody. Biz Markie started it actually. You used be in a crowd and say someone’s name and go ‘Yo! Son!’ The person would turn around and go ‘What? What?’ and you would say: ‘Dwyck!’. It’s like ‘My dick!’. It means the male genitalia. We switched it up to ‘Dwyck’. It was just some sh*t to psyche each other out.”

premo refers to the track as dwyck (do what ya can kid) on one of his official mixtape tracklists

Damn, are you guys kidding? I always thought of Hard to Earn as one of their worst...it's not bad, but I'd say it's barely above average. Daily Operation is one of my favorite rap albums. Moment of Truth is great too.

In 2007 a social network was created using a moniker of the album name. Daily Operation is a hip hop social network dedicated to the advocacy of superior artists such as Gang Starr.

seven years pass...

this was a weird poll

Wimmels, Wednesday, 10 May 2017 11:46 (six years ago) link

would be worth a re-poll. Moment of Truth seems to have gained steam over the years. I could see it giving Hard to Earn a run. I would vote for it, def my go to GS album any more.

Yo, it doesn't make sense, for you to compete against
This New York vibe that gets your whole body tense
Calm down, listen to a brother who knows
Cause the rappers out here come up with mad different types of flows
Switch-up, change-up, yo pull the range up
So we can build on this shit, for real that's how we came up
Used to ride the subway trains back and forth
Now I push an E-Class, four-two-zero of course
Still material gains, make one more aware
Of all the madness and the civil unrest that's out here
I doubt there, is anyplace more complex
You can get lost in the sauce, New York'll have you vexed

So who you gonna call? The martini police (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 16 December 2021 23:18 (two years ago) link
