There's a vision.
This Saloon band sounds interesting...

saloon needs to compile their singles on a cd now, very different to the album more upbeat.
track and field are fine for what they are, they are filling a void as most fey music is released on non-uk labels at the moment.

saloon - worthwhile though i enjoy broadcast more. the tyde, licensed from orange sky, is cool, though they are now signed to rough trade. homescience has a ramshackle feel to it which i enjoy but it's hard to go through that album in one go. kicker are blah.
― doom-e, Sunday, 1 December 2002 22:46 (twenty-one years ago) link
i like most of what shinkansen has released minus the monograph connected bands and tompot blenny once they decided they needed a drummer.
the tyde is as bad as beachwood sparks which is pretty glaringly awful. they should have been on poptones.

Screen Prints on the other hand make cinematic 4 track symphonies recorded on the stairwells of a mental hospital with tunes approaching Jimmy Webb-style freshness and beauty. What a grim illustration of the current musical climate when the Tyde get a Rough Trade deal and the Screen prints are currently without a label.

Really? I just hear third rate BMX Bandits whilst I hear the world in The Tyde.
― doom-e, Monday, 2 December 2002 17:11 (twenty-one years ago) link
I bought a Screen Prints record and it was hopeless. People whose taste I respect keep telling me to try the LP but I'm very reluctant.
As for the main question, T&F don't remind me of Sarah in any way whatsoever.

Oi! I said no soundbites!
Difference between Matinee & shinkansen: Shinkansen isn't trying to be the new Sarah. Unfortunately, it isn't trying to be anything else either.

It's guitar pop. Then again, being on T&F, that's a bit obvious...

Kicker, Homescience, the Loves = all very very ace. I like the Saloon album a tremendous amount but I can't help feeling that its strengths lie in Andrew Prinz' involvement..

I was fucking about amazon.co.uk and saw some new Projects cd, it was only 2 pounds something or other. Is it any good? Has some Broadcast remix or some shit on it. I loved the Projects more than any Saloon cd. I also ordered the last Tompaulin cd cause it was only a pound :).

Going through some box I have a Tompaulin on Earworm 7 inch I never played :(.
― svend, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 05:41 (sixteen years ago) link
really? that's relatively rare, great record too. all the tracks are on the t&f comp of their singles i think
t&f have been pretty boring as a label for a little while, although it was good to see them put out the mahogany record for the UK

matinee still the best contender for new sarah. the names of most of the new bands they're putting out soon crack me up. bubblegum lemonade??
― electricsound, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 05:50 (sixteen years ago) link
Matinee bands all sound exactly the same. Like they all record in the same room ... oh well :)

Found my receipt for the Earworm Tompaulin - 2 pounds :).

if you're trolling then whatever, but if you're serious i think you really haven't heard that many of them. sure, it's all "indie", but i don't see much more than that to link say tender trap with the lucksmiths
― electricsound, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 05:58 (sixteen years ago) link
I wasn't trolling at all. i seriously think that. Look I know where your coming from Tugboat/Library and I know where Matinee is coming from. I just mean they seriously sound similar to me. I still buy them cause I am over 30 and buy cds.

err I meant that part as a joke...........

T&F put out records by Herman Dune, which is a very good thing in my book (like them more than any Sarah band)
― Joan Vich Montaner, Thursday, 29 November 2007 00:04 (sixteen years ago) link
ok fair enough xpost.. i mean, there's a similar aesthetic to be sure, but i've never found myself getting the bands mixed up (although with some of the newer ones this is becoming an issue)

this remix is lovely (if it's the one i'm thinking of). is available on bleep.com if you want to listen. (is very duophonic era sounding)
