Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
Um, there's a good reason why I own more pairs of flats than pairs of heels, and the reason's NOT that I want less arch support and less comfort.
(This, to me, is like telling me that thong underwear is more comfortable than briefs are. Which, I know, has been claimed dozens of times before, but I ain't buying it.)

i find thong underwear/gstrings heaps more comfortable than briefs.

jeans and heels are not "fratty" though the look is certainly co-opted by many college co-eds. heels have a great way of taking any ol' jeans and t-shirt look and turning into 100% hotness.

heels, hmm, wear em about once a year when i am dressing up as like-a-prayer era madonna. my feet are hella sore the next day. so classic, yeah, in moderation. just give me a pair of docs, thanks, way sexier and more comfortable.

i suspect that it's just something that people get used to, but i've never been motivated enough to wear heels regularly. i'm tall enough that i tower over most people, so don't 'need' to wear them. i'm also too poor to take taxis everywhere, which i suspect would make girly shoes more practical for a night out.

I have a few high heels. I only wear them very rarely b/c of the towering over people thing. I love all the vintage-esque shoes this season, but couldn't wear most of them (besides not being able to find them in my size) because the heels are too tall. If they were 1/2 or maybe 3/4 of the height, that would be perfect.

I live v close to a subway station. Half the sidewalks are covered in subway grills. But girls wearing heels can't walk on subway grills. So they have to walk on the wrong side of the sidewalk. So everyone not wearing heels has to weave back and forth between the the people who can walk on the right side of the sidewalk and the people who can't. Funk that.

does anyone know if it is possible for a cobbler to take a couple inches off of very high heels?
― bell_labs, Monday, 28 January 2008 15:32 (sixteen years ago) link
also, what do you think of buying shoes that are a full size too big? is there any way to make them wearable?
― bell_labs, Monday, 28 January 2008 15:36 (sixteen years ago) link
Well, I think there's a metal rod inside the heel, actually, so they'd be grinding it down...also then the toe would probably point up, since the hinge was made for the front to be flat on the ground relative to the heel height. I've never considered it...perhaps ask a shoe place? Pref a good one, tho, since this sounds like a major project.
Re size too big: you can put in halters, which are the little cork pads that push your feet back into the heels. It seems like a pain for a full size, tho.
Now I'm curious -- what is up??
― Laurel, Monday, 28 January 2008 15:37 (sixteen years ago) link
haha nothing really. i just wore some 4 inch heels yesterday and realized i can't walk more than 10 blocks in them. and so i was looking at flat boots online and found the exact same pair as a comfy pair i already have, but in brown, on sale, but they are a size big.

^but if anyone's an 8.5 (i think they run a little big, im usually an 8 but got at 7.5) these are awesome boots
― bell_labs, Monday, 28 January 2008 15:50 (sixteen years ago) link
In my opinion there's no point in getting shoes that don't (quite) fit, but maybe that's just how I talk myself out of the more borderline purchases that I don't really need.
Four inches is quite a lot of heel! But when would you be walking more than 10 blocks when you wd also be dressed up/secksy enough for such boots?
― Laurel, Monday, 28 January 2008 15:52 (sixteen years ago) link

I like to think that my walk to and from the subway (from my house) is the longest trip I'll make all day. But then you probably could have guessed that.

bell labs, it has been a hard and somewhat costly lesson to learn, but to buy any shoe that is not your size or does not fit well is foolhardy. You'll hardly ever wear them and when you do it will be a hell.
