N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 23 February 2004 23:43 (9 years ago) Permalink

cigarettes don't explode in your stomach.

cozhopper (Cozen), Monday, 23 February 2004 23:44 (9 years ago) Permalink

it might be more fun if they did, to tell the truth.

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 18:41 (9 years ago) Permalink

who was that?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 18:51 (9 years ago) Permalink

Ab1g4il W1ld. she had a very nice voice.

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 18:53 (9 years ago) Permalink

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 18:54 (9 years ago) Permalink

Well, I know who she is. I like her writing.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 18:54 (9 years ago) Permalink

I was talking to Spiers again early, and I sent your love.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 18:55 (9 years ago) Permalink

I hope she says nice things about me.

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 18:56 (9 years ago) Permalink

I hope everyone says nice things about me.

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 18:56 (9 years ago) Permalink

I once saw Graham Spiers staggering drunkenly down Byres Road, having just left Cookie to go for a taxi. It was a beautiful sight and I wish he could have seen it.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 18:57 (9 years ago) Permalink

There was a Cookie-Spiers summit?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 18:59 (9 years ago) Permalink

I had left Cook and I wished he could have seen it. I thought that may have implied he didn't.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 19:00 (9 years ago) Permalink

cook could beat up spiers.

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 19:01 (9 years ago) Permalink

Certainly in the state spiers was in that night . . . (someone said somewhere else that was the right way to do ellipses? It looks silly)

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 19:02 (9 years ago) Permalink

Yeah, ignore them, they were talking shite.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 19:03 (9 years ago) Permalink

I believe amateurist.

. . .

it looks horrible though.

she said 'you don't have a glaswegian accent.' and I said 'yeah but I have a scottish accent.' and she said 'do you?!' now I'm saying 'what?!' she was very nice though, I think I was a little rude at one time but I didn't mean it. I normally feel uncomfortable on the phone.

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 19:08 (9 years ago) Permalink

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 19:09 (9 years ago) Permalink

the article is ok. apart from the bit where she says I'm a frustrated writer which is plainly untrue. other than that I'm just generally frustrated by the world, that is. not specifically as a writer.

I'm heading there for about 12.

Aunt Acid and the Gaviscons (aldo), Saturday, 11 February 2012 08:49 (1 year ago) Permalink

Cool, I think Ailsa mentioned the same. That should suit me, but you know where I am, if I don't appear!

I'll pick out a different Circle t-shirt just now...

I'll be there around 12 as well.

ailsa, Saturday, 11 February 2012 09:13 (1 year ago) Permalink

Aunt Acid and the Gaviscons (aldo), Saturday, 11 February 2012 12:06 (1 year ago) Permalink

Good times. Cheap beer, having to obtain a key to another level to go to the ladies, being the only woman in a packed pub. Actually genuinely quite liked it! Good to catch up with aldo and krakow.

Vague plans were made for an assault on music quizzes. Anyone else up for this?

ailsa, Saturday, 11 February 2012 18:05 (1 year ago) Permalink

I really liked the Vale too! It was good to meet you for the first time aldo and to catch you again a bit more properly ailsa. I hope that you had a good rest of the afternoon. It made a really nice change for a Saturday lunchtime for me. Up for an assault on various music quizzes...

brain (krakow), Saturday, 11 February 2012 20:05 (1 year ago) Permalink

Forgot to show you my Circle t-shirt aldo, I was wearing the red fist...

Glasgow, I've missed you. just arrived for a three day conferencel at SECC and staying across the road at the Campanile. currently sitting in the hotel bar and wondering whether a restaurant next door which boasts Japanese, Thai and Chinese cuisine via a large neon sign could possibly be any good

Have any Glaswegians seen Tavernier's Death Watch. Don't think I've ever seen a city photographed on film so lovingly well as this.

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 13 June 2012 12:31 (11 months ago) Permalink

The first shot of the cemetery is one for all time.

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 13 June 2012 12:31 (11 months ago) Permalink

saw it at the glasgow film theater last week :-) am always keen to catch old film of my adopted hometown, and yes, loved the dusky, twilight quality to many of the images. it was interesting to see that parts of the city centre have hardly changed in thirty years - i immediately recognised st vincents street, where i work. that cemetery is the necropolis, which is a pretty photogenic place (and about ten minutes away from my flat); it also turns up in The Angels' Share funnily enough, along with other parts of the East End (Mark S wrote a v gd review of the Loach for S&S, btw)

Ward Fowler, Wednesday, 13 June 2012 12:45 (11 months ago) Permalink

Interested in The Angels' Share - a Ken Loach comedy, don't think I've seen one..

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 13 June 2012 22:43 (11 months ago) Permalink

I loved it.

Madchen, Thursday, 14 June 2012 05:57 (11 months ago) Permalink

hi madchen!

the angels's share is v v funny in places, but one of the gd things abt it is the way that loach complicates the characters - there's a really moving and brilliantly acted scene where the lead guy is confronted with the effect of his violent behaviour. i can understand why they're billing it as 'the scottish full monty' on the posters, but of course it's not really v helpful or accurate to think of it in that way

Ward Fowler, Thursday, 14 June 2012 08:02 (11 months ago) Permalink

Yes, that scene was superb.
