wilter, Thursday, 19 June 2008 01:41 (fifteen years ago) link

wow i have such a headache that i couldn't even enjoy the free booze at networking event tonight and left to come home with people saying 'wait! don't go! we haven't met our cap yet! drink more!'

this is a sad, sad day.

tehresa, Thursday, 19 June 2008 01:42 (fifteen years ago) link

i think jj's analysis of palansuisdngk is spot on... i read one of his books many years ago... about some guy in a weird culty society and he is like the last one left or something? also this is how i learned that you are not allowed to mix clorox and windex together - that is deadly. but yeah... pretty empty reading, but good way to pass the time.

i need to think of books for taking to read on beaches in MAUI which is in like 1.5 weeks omg excited!

re: Veronaintheclub - i have no idea, but yes, annoying

BLACK BEYONCE, Thursday, 19 June 2008 02:03 (fifteen years ago) link

xp I have never heard of this author you guys are talking about. SO SAD

I did discover that "kids, go pick some strawberries in the backyard" is an ace way to 1. get the kids out of my hair for half and hour and 2. also not have to pick strawberries myself

ps tehresa - I hope you are feeling more up to random drinks tomorrow and that you get some!

tehresa, Thursday, 19 June 2008 05:40 (fifteen years ago) link

God, me too. I just went in there to change out the towels, turned around, and had to walk right out to get the vacuum. Upon which I put the longest possible extenders so that I did not have to get too close.

Okay, I'm still not over it. UGH

Sara R-C, Thursday, 19 June 2008 05:46 (fifteen years ago) link

haha you vaccum them up!
they move so fast!

tehresa, Thursday, 19 June 2008 05:48 (fifteen years ago) link

Yes... but I sneak up on the slooooowly and quietly. And then I let the vacuum run for ridiculously long after I get them because I think they might somehow come back out... *shudder*

Sara R-C, Thursday, 19 June 2008 06:31 (fifteen years ago) link

VITC is kind of annoying but I think when we have a new poster drought for a while we forget that we were all twits at the beginning

El Tomboto, Thursday, 19 June 2008 06:47 (fifteen years ago) link

Maybe he met someone and is, you know, BUSY

Sara R-C, Thursday, 19 June 2008 23:23 (fifteen years ago) link

I have been busy experimenting with a chocolate chunk recipe today. Turns out they are hard to make taste bad.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 19 June 2008 23:55 (fifteen years ago) link

i have been busy today taking busses everywhere just for fun and to fill time and enjoy scenic brooklyn. i mean, i actually had somewhere to go, but i chose busses rather than trains (and subsequently an extra hour on each leg of trip) for sightseeing purposes.

tehresa, Friday, 20 June 2008 00:03 (fifteen years ago) link

Hey, that sounds fun! I have only seen my house and a local park. ;_;

Sara R-C, Friday, 20 June 2008 00:06 (fifteen years ago) link

i got a bussy tour of wburg, bushwick, bed stuy, ft. greene, and prospect heights! i also walked around flatbush a lot. i saw a lot of jewishes today. the kids, i was worried about the ones i saw out the bus window, because the strings hanging off their prayer cloths might get caught in their bicycles and make them have the accidents! then when i was walking around flatbush, i saw a little kid w/ his mini tiny kiddie bike on the ground trying to get the prayer cloth fringe out of the chain :( at least he was not hurt.

tomorrow i am going to go to the park again for operatic singings and i think i take the bus down for more scenery.

tehresa, Friday, 20 June 2008 00:16 (fifteen years ago) link

I've met maybe 5 Jewish people in my life?

wilter, Friday, 20 June 2008 00:18 (fifteen years ago) link

xp Wow, you don't have kids and you are alert to teh dangers! Glad the one who fell didn't get hurt...

Tomorrow I get to go out for sushi in Minneapolis, so I'm excited about that. I have had a massive sushi craving for weeks, which was unabated by eating sushi last Tuesday night. MUST HAVE MORE

Sara R-C, Friday, 20 June 2008 00:18 (fifteen years ago) link

xp I know very few Jewish people, but I blame that on where I live. Dan's ex-girlfriend was, I think, the only Jewish student in our high school. Any time I'd ask her about an aspect of Judaism, she would say, "I'm reform; I don't need to know that." (Writing that out does not do her hilarious delivery justice. She's a riot.)

Sara R-C, Friday, 20 June 2008 00:20 (fifteen years ago) link

oh guess i had some crown heights bus time, too.

yeah i am always thinking of the childrens. i like to think this means i will be a good mom some day but you never know...

i know many jewish people. one of my classmates is very observant, it's been a very educational year for me!

tehresa, Friday, 20 June 2008 00:23 (fifteen years ago) link

Actually when I was on exchange in France I stayed with a Jewish family and they were sooooo awesome.

wilter, Friday, 20 June 2008 00:24 (fifteen years ago) link

i grew up w/ jewish best friend, our family's best friends included my older sister's violin and viola teachers and my little sister's best friend and the kids that i babysat for most of middle school and early high school. also my sister is married to a jew now. everyone thought we were jewish because we were not southern. my sister played anne frank and that only furthered the confusion, even though she told the director 2000 times she was catholic. hello! i am named after a saint and she is named after a nun my parents were friends with!! i don't think we could get any more shiksa.

tehresa, Friday, 20 June 2008 00:25 (fifteen years ago) link

If not southern = Jewish in some neighborhoods, well... well, I really don't know what to make of that. But okay!

When M3l was cast in The Sound of Music as a nun, she had to learn how to do the sign of the cross. That amused me.

She also liked to make fun of my (lapsing) Catholicism. She addressed letters to me at college to: Sara "Convent Runaway" Robinson. (The woman who shared my p.o. box was very curious to meet me.)

Sara R-C, Friday, 20 June 2008 00:44 (fifteen years ago) link

If not southern = Jewish in some neighborhoods, well... well, I really don't know what to make of that. But okay!

this was in south carolina, a.k.a. buckle o' the bible belt, where if you're not baptist or southern, you are assumed to be jewish and from new york.

haha my little sister just sent me a post card from chile addressed to 'sister theresa [last name]'

tehresa, Friday, 20 June 2008 00:46 (fifteen years ago) link

yuh i guess going to a fairly insular catholic boarding school didn't help my non-jewish ppl meeting.

Also amusing that the bursar of the school was a Jewish chap.

wilter, Friday, 20 June 2008 00:50 (fifteen years ago) link

xp Okay, that's awesome. All of it!

You should use "Sister Theresa" as your ILX username.

Sara R-C, Friday, 20 June 2008 00:50 (fifteen years ago) link

wilter, living in Hastings was mostly like living in the land of the boring white people... being Catholic may have been viewed as slightly exotic to some. (I would have to say that the Jehovah's Witnesses seemed pretty exotic to me. Although I only ever met ONE.)
