Maybe "Sex Bomb" is too obvious a choice for audiophiles to put in their Flipper OPV list, but come on-- that song is, as Allmusic so accurately put it-- the closest thing the 80's had to "Louie Louie." It's got to be one of the best bass lines in recorded history. And that whining, high-pitched noise (what the hell is that?) completes the picture. A perfect song by a band I know hardly anything about.

Curious if anyone knows how they would have done the vocal effects on tracks like HaHaHa and Love Canal. Just by putting the mic through a guitar pedal of some sort?

Just saw the 40 th anniversary live tour gig near me. Original guitarist and drummer plus David Yow of Jesus Lizard on vocals and a newer bassist. Yow climbed up on balcony, bared his big gut, let audience members join in onstage on vocals and saxophone. Sometimes lame, sometimes great, it was a crazy night in Baltimore. They did most of the songs mentioned in this thread

Only got to see them as the Novoselic line up back in '06.
But been on FB with the members so interesting to see what they take stands on politically/philosophically etc.
Not as nihilistic as the songs might imply.

First saw em around 1982 in DC. Recall a fair amount of sneering comments about DC hardcore between songs.

I have seen the Flipper/Yow set-up twice now. Pretty fun, the band sounds good and chunky and Yow hams it up.

Was at that Baltimore show and during the first song he jumped into the crowd and sang most of it from there. For a couple seconds directly into a girl’s face and she... did not seem to appreciate it. Like she was going through a nervous/personal thing at the moment and that amplified it significantly. I don’t think think there was much thought/awareness on Yow’s part, but she seemed shaken and weepy afterwards and it kinda made me think a lot of stuff unexpectedly for the first 15 mins of the show.

I was standing against back wall and didn’t see that. It didn’t look like a woman he tried to get to sing along in the balcony later, appreciated his putting the mic to her. Although a couple of women chose to jump on stage at one point( their choice).
