it's interesting bc snyder's analysis of hitler closely tracks w/ the narrative i heard in the jewish community growing up vis a vis hitler's war on the jews being a war on morality that he felt jews brought into the world (and that produces all these disparate moral philosophies - christianity, communism, humanism, enlightenment, etc).“The Ten Commandments have lost their validity. Conscience is a Jewish invention, it is a blemish like circumcision.” this is so much more different i think than other genocidal horrors of the modern era just in terms of the natural nihilism that underlined it as opposed maybe to stalin/mao who were animated by an ideology.
