tmftml was the king of NY blogs, but then he retired, and the game hasn't been the same.

I was wondering, is there crunk from outside the US? Because if there was, I'd really want to hear it.

The SPIN magazine article is out now too, it's in the issue with Green Day on the cover. I kinda hate the photo of me (but I hate all photos of me, so it's got nothing to do with Reuben Cox), but Jon Caramanica's article about mp3 blogs is by far the best one to date.

I remember there was a short time in Summer 2003 where every "We are the World" track was lifted from Gabba Pod. As if nobody would ever find out.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Monday, 18 October 2004 14:10 (8 years ago) Permalink

I don't mind when Pitchfork poaches material from my site - they have a lot more readers and a great deal more influence than I have in the indie rock demo, so if they can get their audience interested in stuff like Annie and The Mo, that's good news.

Of course ppl on PFM read Fluxblog! Why wouldn't we? In the past couple of months, I have put the brakes on posting things right after Matthew does - both the Chico remix and Love Is All singles are things I was going to write about but when Matthew did, I didn't bother. I'll write an Anniemal album review soonish (probably next week), and then everyone can say that we just copied Fluxblog again ;)

The John Cei Douglas post on fluxblog is mentioned by Crayton Harrison in this week's edition of "Spin Cycle". Hardly the NY Times, I know, but still. You'll probably have to register to read that, but bugmenot.com will sort you out.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 01:58 (8 years ago) Permalink

Here it is:

Digable Planets/"Blowout Comb" – Now that the jazz-influenced rap trio has reunited and will headline Chicago's Lollapalooza festival, it's time to dust off this 1994 album, which, in retrospect, was waaaay ahead of its time. The Planets got out of beatnik mode and started messing with some harder beats, and the results are funkier and a little angrier than the group's debut, Reachin'.

www.fluxblog.org – At this MP3 blog, art begets art. Cartoonist John Cei Douglas interprets Spoon's "The Two Sides of Monsieur Valentine" in graphic short story form. "Valentine," by the way, is one of several sweeping, epic rock songs on the Austin band's latest, Gimme Fiction, due Tuesday.

Lil' Jon and the East Side Boyz, "Crunk Juice" (expanded edition) – The bonus CD features two notable mixes of "What U Gon' Do:" a version with reggaeton stars Daddy Yankee and Pitbull and one with dancehall rappers Elephant Man and Lady Saw. Also, you get Lil' Jon's remix of Daddy Yankee's "Gasolina," which is, in case you didn't know, the party jam of the year.

Why Lindsay Buckingham, why now? Did I miss an explanation post?

Over the past few months I have become fascinated by Lindsey Buckingham and Fleetwood Mac. I had always liked their music but for whatever reason this stuff has become a lot more interesting and resonant for me recently...Also, I figured that there were probably a significant number of readers who either were not very aware of Lindsey’s music or hadn’t given it much thought.

Yeah, the only ("only"...I admit to a clear bias) skin I have in this game is knowing MP on a personal level. Even being intimately involved with Fluxblog for years, I never made (or expected) a dime. I have no issue with people critiquing his writing. Shit just always tends to get overly-personal here, which is doubly shitty since he isn't even around anymore to defend himself.

Regardless of your opinion of the Big Perp, I will say this: I wholly approve of the "vertical" form of content dumping rather than those stupid click-thru slideshows... Particularly when they're editorial-free on sites like Buzzfeed.

So basically what I'm saying is: give me more big Perp all up in my vertical.
