There's not. Aren't the people getting upset here his fans, who are upset that everyone thinks he's bland/mediocre?

oops (Oops), Thursday, 21 August 2003 21:25 (twenty years ago) link

Shh! Let the guy form his own opinion.

though i bet the dmb fans probably got called racists and white supremicists a lot more by bizarro nu ilm
-- trife (...), August 24th, 2003.

Today on "Useless Thread Revivals" the question of the day:
Who's more Fascistic?
A) The "Obey the Tastes dictated by the Social Majority" Reactionary Sheeple of the pro-DMB crowd...or...
B) The "Kneel Before Our Superior Taste" Bourgeois Elitist Snobs of the ILM-Elite
You Decide!*

Without attacking anyone, I don't hate the guy (like I hate certain un-elected officials and Billy Joel), I just don't like his music. He occasionally brays like a mule and the overall effect of his music is, well, blandish.

no!!!
we can not let this not go on...
wait double negative implies the positive...
ok...
we can't not let this not go on...
(3x negative would reverse the implied positive, thereby making it a reverse-double negative=positve)

RE: Live -vs- Die --- Is that referring to the thread or the band?

dave225 (Dave225), Friday, 29 August 2003 17:22 (twenty years ago) link

I think dave matthews writes some terrific melodic pop/rock. Much more complex than say matchbox 20. perhaps all the hate should be reserved for bands like that instead.

Rocket Man, Friday, 29 August 2003 18:20 (twenty years ago) link

Well, then, Rocket Man...Please feel free to post a Matchbox 20: Name Your Reasons Why They Are So Bad and Hated
(Might as well, This thread is taking too long to load.)

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Friday, 29 August 2003 18:26 (twenty years ago) link

ya read my mind ...

There's enough hate to go around. If you start a "Matchbox 20: Name your reasons why are they so bad and hated" thread, they will come.

dave225 (Dave225), Friday, 29 August 2003 18:27 (twenty years ago) link

Matchbox 20 has good solid traditional song structure though, where DMB relys more on emotion and a touch of jambandystuff to loosely drape over their song structure. This does allow them more complexity, but MB20 has had more solid radio hits due to their traditional structure.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 29 August 2003 18:31 (twenty years ago) link

I wonder what would happen if someone were to post a "Matchbox 20: Name your reasons why are they so great and respected" thread...what would happen?

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Friday, 29 August 2003 18:34 (twenty years ago) link

for some reason, i don't feel like posting the "Hooray!" image macro this time.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Friday, 29 August 2003 19:46 (twenty years ago) link

Let us not lock this thread EVAH!

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 29 August 2003 19:50 (twenty years ago) link

Yes, but every time we post, we make it harder and harder and harder for the Creed and Matchbox 20 threads to catch up...

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Saturday, 30 August 2003 03:13 (twenty years ago) link

Dave Matthews Band are the worst band ever. With the worst vocalist ever. If DMB fans hate Creed its because they are jealous of a great singer. Do not compare creed to dmb. Creed rock and DMB suck.

Ricky, Saturday, 30 August 2003 05:07 (twenty years ago) link

No. I think you've been misinformed. You see, even though a lot of people don't like DMB, but it wouldn't be because they think they suck. They're all irrefuably talented musicians, which would make your statement entirely false.
Saying Creed rocks would also be incorrect, because uh...they don't.

Allison (Allison), Saturday, 30 August 2003 12:09 (twenty years ago) link

ya know, i hate me some DMB, but, i think that is eclipsed by my total and utter hatred of scott stapp...
at least i don't hear as much DMB as i used to but creed still manages to be everywhere...
maybe it's just pittsburgh.
home of the mullet that never left.

eedd, Saturday, 30 August 2003 12:42 (twenty years ago) link

Scott Stapp is a great singer. As pointed out above Dave Matthews sings like a muppet.
Dave Matthews Band are awful, as the amount of postings to this thread proves.

Creed Fan, Sunday, 31 August 2003 23:11 (twenty years ago) link

Dave Matthews Band are far more original than Creed. Far superior musicians and far better in concert. At least dave doesnt get so stoned that he cant remember the words and the band dont get sued by 'fans'. Creed are the worst band in the world then its Pearl jam. Scott Stapp is just an Eddie Vedder clone.

DMB Fan 666, Monday, 1 September 2003 02:36 (twenty years ago) link

Scott may have a nice voice, but it's also extremely impassive. Dave has about a billion styles of singing, all of which represent different moods or feelings. The Creed guy only has one fucking sound that reminds me of gurgling. Don't compare Creed to DMB. Ever.

Allison (Allison), Monday, 1 September 2003 02:43 (twenty years ago) link

Scott Stapp is a far superior singer to Dave Matthews. Creed rock a lot harder than DMB ever could. I cant imagine anything more boring than a Dave Matthews Band concert. Except maybe for a Dave Matthews solo concert.
Will he have bongo solos?

Jonty, Monday, 1 September 2003 02:55 (twenty years ago) link

Im surprised theres a Creed : Name Your Reasons Why Are They So Bad And REALLY Hated thread. I didnt know that there was internet connections in trailer parks now. Most Creed fans ive met are stupid jocks who's knuckles drag along the ground , they are unwashed, have mullets and are illiterate.
If comic book guy was here he would say "Creed: worst band ever"
(Wish I could've put a picture up with him saying that)

Slump Man (Slump Man), Monday, 1 September 2003 03:23 (twenty years ago) link

Does rocking harder=superiority? Now, there's a new concept.
Also, his long hair just doesn't do it for me. Makes me sick, actually.
(no offence to Ned, his is hot)

Allison (Allison), Monday, 1 September 2003 03:25 (twenty years ago) link

I just read this entire thread, from beginning to end. Can anyone here tell me why I did this?
Oh, and Creed sucks.

totalbastard, Monday, 1 September 2003 07:07 (twenty years ago) link

This thread, as with analysis of soil stratum, reveals the essence of ILM: musical pedantry, jokes about gay men and unadulterated Creed hate. Don't we just love it?

JP Almeida (JP Almeida), Monday, 1 September 2003 09:25 (twenty years ago) link

But who exactly do you all hate more. Creed or Dave Matthews Band?

U2 Fan, Monday, 1 September 2003 12:51 (twenty years ago) link

Aw, well thank ya.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 1 September 2003 12:55 (twenty years ago) link

Creed claim to be christians. Christians & Jocks & Mullets. Says it all really.

DMB Fan, Monday, 1 September 2003 15:37 (twenty years ago) link

I have not heard very much Dave Matthews, and therefore can't really comment. I feel you should all know this.

Dave Matthews Band To Rock Central Park

The day after Dave Matthews' releases his RCA solo debut, "Some Devil," the Dave Matthews Band will play a benefit show in New York's Central Park that is expected to draw upwards of 100,000 people. Full details of the Sept. 24 event will be announced Friday (Sept. 12).

America Online is sponsoring the show and is using it to hype the newest version of its software, AOL 9.0. The concert, which RCA will tape for an immediate DVD and CD release, will be held on the park's Great Lawn and will raise funds for the AOL Concert for the Schools! program, which will benefit The Fund for Public Schools of New York City and the Music Resource Center in DMB's homebase of Charlottesville, Va.

Tickets are free and can be obtained through AOL and DMB's official fan association, the Warehouse. Donations of at least $25 are requested and all seats are general admission. The band is also offering Warehouse/fan club members "preferred viewing section passes," which includes access to a backstage barbecue picnic and an exclusive viewing area on the Great Lawn

"Some Devil," which features guest appearances from regular Matthews collaborator Tim Reynolds and Phish's Trey Anastasio, will kickstart a busy season for Matthews-related releases. According to a source, a CD/DVD of the Central Park show will be released in November, followed early next year by a three-DVD/six-CD collection taped at the band's three-night September 2002 stand at the Gorge in George, Wash.

Dave Matthews Band is the GREATEST band ever. There is so much to listen for in his songs. He is not like that crappy rap stuff were it all sounds the same. There is so many different types, of music in the band. They actually have the right to call themselves a band. There is so much tallent between Dave, Stefan, Carter, Leroi, and Boyd. No other band right now has as much talent as those guys. If there is I would like to know who. Just by the variation in their music should tell you how great of a band they really are.

I hate them because my entire neighborhood has been shut down so they can do a concert!!! You'd think Dave Matthews was the President.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 24 September 2003 20:17 (twenty years ago) link

His political views are in here somewhere, probably in numerous bloody piles from being picked apart and criticized by the fiends of ILM. They're far more practical than Bush's if I remember correctly.
I think all earnings from that concert go to NYC schools or something, so the cause may be worthy of having your neighborhood shut down for a night.

Allison (Allison), Wednesday, 24 September 2003 20:20 (twenty years ago) link

Not really, the schoolkids here are assholes.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 24 September 2003 20:21 (twenty years ago) link
