This is forcing me to consider Mr. W4rr3n in new and disturbing ways.

Did M3l1ss4 ever tell you the story about the time several girls in the choir got him to take his shirt off in the choir robe room to prove he didn't have a hairy back?

HI DERE, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 16:53 (fifteen years ago) link

I don't know whether to laugh or be appalled!

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 17:13 (fifteen years ago) link

gah

so in my continuing cultural literacy speed course, i watched "there will be blood" last night and it was great great great.

then i read the ILE thread and was confused. so i came here.

hello.

also read Haunted by Palahuninuniunuiniuiuk and it was meh. Dan, was Lullaby the one you recommended to me a while ago?

dude is such a weird, empty writer, but still compelling on some lizard brain level. Sort of reminds me of Will Self without the requisite chops.

BLACK BEYONCE, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 20:02 (fifteen years ago) link

I am trying to reintegrate myself into pop culture by reading the new Stephen King book (Duma Key). I'm about a third of the way through it and kind of getting a sense of where he's going with it. Seems okay.

When I finish that I'm going back to reading Bonk, the book about sex research. (Same author as Stiff). Footnotes in Bonk are predictably hilarious.

John, you're light years ahead of me in pop culture lit.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 20:07 (fifteen years ago) link

tonight, if no one warns me against it, is "Last King Of Scotland" night.

BLACK BEYONCE, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 20:09 (fifteen years ago) link

I think I'm walking on the treadmill to episodes from the third season of The Simpsons.

I ASSUME NO ONE WILL OBJECT TO THAT

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 20:11 (fifteen years ago) link

Oh, and I think The Shining is coming from Netflix. A. has never seen it!

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 20:11 (fifteen years ago) link

You are all making some excellent televisual choices. 3rd Season Simpsons is supoib and Last King of Scotland surprised me.

I DLed Recount yesterday so I'm gonna watch that.

Upt0eleven, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 20:14 (fifteen years ago) link

lullaby is awesome mostly because everyone can identify with having the power to wish someone dead

HI DERE, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 21:47 (fifteen years ago) link

HI DERE, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 21:49 (fifteen years ago) link

wilter, Thursday, 19 June 2008 01:40 (fifteen years ago) link

sock?

or just v v annoying?

wilter, Thursday, 19 June 2008 01:41 (fifteen years ago) link

wow i have such a headache that i couldn't even enjoy the free booze at networking event tonight and left to come home with people saying 'wait! don't go! we haven't met our cap yet! drink more!'

this is a sad, sad day.

tehresa, Thursday, 19 June 2008 01:42 (fifteen years ago) link

i think jj's analysis of palansuisdngk is spot on... i read one of his books many years ago... about some guy in a weird culty society and he is like the last one left or something? also this is how i learned that you are not allowed to mix clorox and windex together - that is deadly. but yeah... pretty empty reading, but good way to pass the time.

i need to think of books for taking to read on beaches in MAUI which is in like 1.5 weeks omg excited!

tehresa, Thursday, 19 June 2008 01:44 (fifteen years ago) link

p.s. loving current thread title!

tehresa, Thursday, 19 June 2008 02:01 (fifteen years ago) link

wilter, Thursday, 19 June 2008 02:02 (fifteen years ago) link

lunacy is what we do best.

re: Veronaintheclub - i have no idea, but yes, annoying

BLACK BEYONCE, Thursday, 19 June 2008 02:03 (fifteen years ago) link

xp I have never heard of this author you guys are talking about. SO SAD

I did discover that "kids, go pick some strawberries in the backyard" is an ace way to 1. get the kids out of my hair for half and hour and 2. also not have to pick strawberries myself

ps tehresa - I hope you are feeling more up to random drinks tomorrow and that you get some!

ugh i hattteeeeee them!!!!!!!!

tehresa, Thursday, 19 June 2008 05:40 (fifteen years ago) link

God, me too. I just went in there to change out the towels, turned around, and had to walk right out to get the vacuum. Upon which I put the longest possible extenders so that I did not have to get too close.

Okay, I'm still not over it. UGH

Sara R-C, Thursday, 19 June 2008 05:46 (fifteen years ago) link

haha you vaccum them up!
they move so fast!

tehresa, Thursday, 19 June 2008 05:48 (fifteen years ago) link

Yes... but I sneak up on the slooooowly and quietly. And then I let the vacuum run for ridiculously long after I get them because I think they might somehow come back out... *shudder*

Sara R-C, Thursday, 19 June 2008 06:31 (fifteen years ago) link

VITC is kind of annoying but I think when we have a new poster drought for a while we forget that we were all twits at the beginning

El Tomboto, Thursday, 19 June 2008 06:47 (fifteen years ago) link

El Tomboto, Thursday, 19 June 2008 06:47 (fifteen years ago) link

hah! now i ramble....

tehresa, Thursday, 19 June 2008 06:48 (fifteen years ago) link

I have not run into this VeronaITC person yet. I must find more time to waste here!

Also, I should go to bed. Good night Tom and tehresa and ITR...

BLACK BEYONCE, Thursday, 19 June 2008 14:38 (fifteen years ago) link

Maybe he met someone and is, you know, BUSY

Sara R-C, Thursday, 19 June 2008 23:23 (fifteen years ago) link

I have been busy experimenting with a chocolate chunk recipe today. Turns out they are hard to make taste bad.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 19 June 2008 23:55 (fifteen years ago) link

i have been busy today taking busses everywhere just for fun and to fill time and enjoy scenic brooklyn. i mean, i actually had somewhere to go, but i chose busses rather than trains (and subsequently an extra hour on each leg of trip) for sightseeing purposes.

tehresa, Friday, 20 June 2008 00:03 (fifteen years ago) link

Hey, that sounds fun! I have only seen my house and a local park. ;_;

Sara R-C, Friday, 20 June 2008 00:06 (fifteen years ago) link

i got a bussy tour of wburg, bushwick, bed stuy, ft. greene, and prospect heights! i also walked around flatbush a lot. i saw a lot of jewishes today. the kids, i was worried about the ones i saw out the bus window, because the strings hanging off their prayer cloths might get caught in their bicycles and make them have the accidents! then when i was walking around flatbush, i saw a little kid w/ his mini tiny kiddie bike on the ground trying to get the prayer cloth fringe out of the chain :( at least he was not hurt.

tomorrow i am going to go to the park again for operatic singings and i think i take the bus down for more scenery.

I've met maybe 5 Jewish people in my life?

wilter, Friday, 20 June 2008 00:18 (fifteen years ago) link

xp Wow, you don't have kids and you are alert to teh dangers! Glad the one who fell didn't get hurt...

Tomorrow I get to go out for sushi in Minneapolis, so I'm excited about that. I have had a massive sushi craving for weeks, which was unabated by eating sushi last Tuesday night. MUST HAVE MORE

Sara R-C, Friday, 20 June 2008 00:18 (fifteen years ago) link

xp I know very few Jewish people, but I blame that on where I live. Dan's ex-girlfriend was, I think, the only Jewish student in our high school. Any time I'd ask her about an aspect of Judaism, she would say, "I'm reform; I don't need to know that." (Writing that out does not do her hilarious delivery justice. She's a riot.)
