DJ Petchy with MCs Topsee & Dream on LiveFMUK 13.02.10
i've only just heard of Petchy but he is so good!! so many amazing tracks and his mixing and cutting is outrageous, within 2 shows he has become one of my favourite djs, no joke. but the mc's i think are very very good also, the vibe they bring between all of them is very very big
i recognised a few tracks but loads i didn't. felt People Keep Dancing for the first time properly, it sounded amazing coming out of the mix

i know that boy petchy.... he is now one of the regulars at soul sure at pacha if you want to see him live. he gave me the first indication of the funky takeover when he sold all his grime records and replaced them with funky in something stupid like 2004.

theres a kano lyric that mentions him too...'heartless crew and M.A.D tapes grew me...cant forget to big up petchy and scoobee'

that's interesting Luka. i'd noticed he'd played at pacha a bit i'm gonna keep an eye out and go down sometime. i'm sure he'd play quite different styles to radio in a spot like that but i'm sure it'd be very heavy. i saw a youtube of him playing a tune by that guy Ossie down there in and out of two very big tracks so definitely worth reaching!
― Benjamin, Monday, 15 February 2010 22:11 (fourteen years ago) link
he was one of the best djs in grime when he was still doing that...him and mak 10 were way ahead of everyone else.... im glad he's making a name for himself... this is the myspacehttp://www.myspace.com/djpetchy

So many amazing dubs on Funkystepz' Rinse shows - check 5 Feb in particular, there's a track with Louise Williams I'm calling "I'm So Into You" which is just a-maz-ing.

Also: that DJ Petchy set is fantastic.
Also: the Ill Blu remix of Cheryl Cole's "Parachute" is enormous and is floating around for illegal download.

hey where do you dudes find mp3s of this stuff? i'm not above youtube rips but i'd rather not if they're available elsewhere.

Wow that post is pissily defensive. I don't think even the anti-continuum dudes are claiming there's no relationship between UKG, funky and grime, because that would be, well, fucking stupid. I mean, Lex's article only reinforces the continuum if the sole point of the continuum is to state the bleeding obvious.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 23 February 2010 17:03 (fourteen years ago) link
The point of the continuum is to state the bleeding obvious though.

The Feb 10 Marcus set has some amazing new tracks. The Andy J and ST refix of "Reign" is just O_O good.
(OTOH Andy J's "Lighter"-sampling track is a bit tenuous - the c*ntinium-bait tracks almost always end up disappointing I find!)
Anyway I was listening to this on the way to work today and it made me a tad emotional thinking about how attached I am to pretty much everything this style of music tries to do.

emvee's 'windrush' at 64mins on that is amaaazing - the one with the what sounds like the "chubby checker" intro.

still wish i could love funky as much as tim tho
what's the melancholic synth salsa one a couple after that btw? simple but so crucial.

Woah I didn't realise that that "Feel the vibe and know that you are truly blessed... Now MOVE!" tune was by Funkystepz.
These guys have too many great tunes. You could make an awesome album just out of the ones I know the names of. To whit:
MalibuFor YouFireworksMr BandicootLovers (AMAZING TUNE BTW)Piano StormGamechipWho's Skanking The HardestHurricane RiddimTrinity HillLeave With YouBubbly
^^^ This would be a great album. I've even thought about the track order.
― Tim F, Thursday, 4 March 2010 11:10 (fourteen years ago) link
not tryna sound rude honest but having heard and enjoyed a few funkystepz sets i consider myself as interested in their oeuvre as the next man and i'm still nowhere near knowing all the tracknames like that -- if youre wanting a reaction beyond "good 4 u bro" then some timestamps at least would be handy innit, especially so on a epic blogspot. i know it's an arse but...!
anyway, lately i am feeling particularly enamoured of the infallible screama + farah = WIN formula.

is this guy bigged up as swindle - he says hes one of the best doing it in funky - the same swindle who made the grime track airmiles?

Dunno, the track he plays is pretty good though.

also this! frm bugz in the attic/reinforced dude:

(heard these on the infallible seani b covering mistajam's show last nite - why oh why can't it always be this way 1xtra? jam is fucking useless.)
― r|t|c, Friday, 12 March 2010 11:43 (fourteen years ago) link
Ha ha I came on to this thread to post the Ill Blu remix of "OMG" which I'd finally ID'd. Massive and murderous! I love it when she sings "I won't lower myself to snap at her!!" Reminds me of "You Better Tell Her". Also kind of nice that it's a bit less slick, which balances out the "Parachute" remix which is also great but almost too perfect.
But more generally loving this middle ground between, like, "Something Good" and the Freemasons.
― Tim F, Sunday, 14 March 2010 06:49 (fourteen years ago) link
thats a really good one.
― titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Sunday, 14 March 2010 08:49 (fourteen years ago) link
DJ Naughty remix great also. I like how DJ Naughty has his aesthetic and sticks to it but about once every three productions or so pulls out some increasingly rococo and sickly and bizzaro twist on it.
― Tim F, Sunday, 14 March 2010 11:37 (fourteen years ago) link
^ yeah totally! i've long thought if i were to do a skykickin style expose of a producer in particular it'd be on naughty but i think hearing a couple of naughtyesque things that didn't turn out to be by him dissuaded me a little. also the whole being lazy thing.
the more i listen to naughty's mix the more i prefer it to the ill blu, but i'm not sure i've heard it in any sets as such - not to the extent of blu's anyway. (i hev nice mp3s of both if anyone desires.)
― r|t|c, Monday, 15 March 2010 11:52 (fourteen years ago) link
Actually both plus the Sound Boy mix are on mediafire, easily googlable everyone.
Naughty and Major Notes are my next two write-ups BTW. Naughty has done a ridiculous number of awes tracks in the past twelve months.
