It's kind of hard to appreciate the gorgeous melodies when they're being song by someone who sounds like a goose being put through a garlic press.

In fact, one might expect shellshocked laughter to be the initial response.

Btw, I don't really get the Lindstrom + Christabelle thing.

Yeah, she's a fine harpist (is that the word?), but she needs to take a back seat on her own recordings when it comes to singing. Do a Carlos Santana deal and bring in your pals.

It's a nice song, but it sounds like a lot of other music I've heard -- it's not particularly memorable or distinguishable to me. (the Lindstrom - not the Newsom)

The Lindstrøm & Christabelle thing is just a really good nouveau disco track, though I was slightly disappointed by the album as a whole for not making a real effort.

I'm also glad the album version got the lion's share of the points. The Aeroplane remixes are good, but the 'original' trumps all.

I think this also justifies my position that the L&C album should have stayed on the ballot. It would have done well!

Phoenix track is decent! I hadn't heard it before.

Echoing lex from some earlier thread: I get why Phoenix is popular, I get why people like the songs, I just don't get why they are phenomenal enough to show up near the top of all these year-end lists, including ours. The songs are catchy and fun and lighthearted if you're into that sort of thing, but is it really that *exciting* after 5+ spins?
