can someone, maybe you shakey, upload a bunch of songs to divshare or something? divshare can hold a 200mb zip file

stop assuming I assumed something LOL (CaptainLorax), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 02:07 (fourteen years ago) link

I don't really have that much, would kinda defer to iatee here who sounds like he has the deeper collection - I have Landlocked (which is easy to find) and a few other random things. honestly kinda annoyed that I lost some of the stuff I used to have like Lei'd in Hawaii and the studio version of We Got Love...

The Tommy Westphall Universe Hypothesis (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 05:18 (fourteen years ago) link

but yeah I'm happy to upload whatever/wherever...unfamiliar with divshare tho

duders it's all about the SIXTEEN VOLUMES of "journals."

figuratively, but in a very real way (amateurist), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 05:57 (fourteen years ago) link

you know what song i like? that dennis wilson single with the captain from captain and tenille. the one with the primitive drum machine sound. "lady."

figuratively, but in a very real way (amateurist), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 05:57 (fourteen years ago) link

a search for journals brought up this crazy list of bb bootlegs:
http://www.surfermoon.com/boots.shtml

lorax, I'll put together some sort of mix tonight

otm about lady

iatee, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 06:17 (fourteen years ago) link

fwiw the handful of tracks I am really missing right now are:

- 4th of July
- We Got Love + Out in the Country (Holland outtakes, I think?)
- With a Little Help From my Friends (from Lei'd in Hawaii...?)
- I'm Going Your Way
- Stevie

The Tommy Westphall Universe Hypothesis (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 16:19 (fourteen years ago) link

iatee, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 16:27 (fourteen years ago) link

in case anybody needs it, i've got "adult child" up over yonder: http://doomandgloomfromthetomb.tumblr.com/post/308993348/surfs-up-for-our-last-lost-album-well-go-back
it's scary!

tylerw, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 16:46 (fourteen years ago) link

xp

don't think I've heard the song, gonna try and find it tho

iatee, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 16:54 (fourteen years ago) link

the big band/jazz arrangements pervading Adult Child are really inexplicable

The Tommy Westphall Universe Hypothesis (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 17:09 (fourteen years ago) link

I mean really its not a style that plays to any of Brian's (or the other Boys') strengths, in a career full of left turns this one always stands out to me as the most wrong-headed.

The Tommy Westphall Universe Hypothesis (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 17:13 (fourteen years ago) link

found out in the country...remember hearing this back in the day. it's pretty good!

iatee, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 19:51 (fourteen years ago) link

you're adorable, iatee. will you marry me?

poptart22, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 20:08 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah the Chapin/Fataar-era and material is underrated I think. The Flame album that Carl produced is fucking fantastic (maybe I will post it)

The Tommy Westphall Universe Hypothesis (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 20:09 (fourteen years ago) link

for example:

http://beatpatrol.wordpress.com/2008/09/09/the-flame-see-the-light-1970/

heavy, heavy McCartney influence, can totally see why Carl was into them

if there's anything anyone else wants me to add, tell me!

the full version of rock & roll woman is somewhere on the internet but I don't gots it.

iatee, Wednesday, 3 February 2010 05:16 (fourteen years ago) link

I had Landlocked and Adult Child at one time. Plus the extra tracks that were later released with Smiley Smile/Wild Honey.

does anyone have any recommendations on where I can get MP3s for some of the stuff on this thread...? a lot of the BB blogs out there seem to focus on, like, instrumental/alternate mixes of their 60s material, when mostly I'm interested in unreleased stuff from the late 60s on ...
― The Tommy Westphall Universe Hypothesis (Shakey Mo Collier)

Same here.. I like the late 60s a lot.

Maybe there is some Beach Boys related stuff you can add iatee.. dennis wilson solo or something
Other than that, good work so far, I don't recognize most of those tracks

stop assuming I assumed something LOL (CaptainLorax), Wednesday, 3 February 2010 05:30 (fourteen years ago) link

hope that's a better copy of Carry Me Home than the one I have, which is crackly and muddy as hell (but damn what a great song)

that tracklisting looks great iatee, bunch of things I haven't heard before on there. you r teh coolest

The Tommy Westphall Universe Hypothesis (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 3 February 2010 16:41 (fourteen years ago) link

How about Dennis's Sound of Free?

fit and working again, Wednesday, 3 February 2010 16:45 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah, that tracklisting looks great, iatee ... i'm always afraid of those massive beach boys bootleg comps, it's be nice to see an expert's picks.

tylerw, Wednesday, 3 February 2010 16:58 (fourteen years ago) link

How about Dennis's Sound of Free?

yeah was thinking about this one

iatee, Wednesday, 3 February 2010 17:24 (fourteen years ago) link

great song

The Tommy Westphall Universe Hypothesis (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 3 February 2010 17:37 (fourteen years ago) link

It would be great if somebody could skim off the best outtakes for a bootleg/collection of high bitrate or lossless files. Or maybe point me to sucha thing if it exists. I love BB but their bootlegs are always such daunting, sprawling messes.

ian zamboni, Thursday, 4 February 2010 21:56 (fourteen years ago) link

I have LANDLOCKED, btw.

ian zamboni, Thursday, 4 February 2010 21:56 (fourteen years ago) link

yes that's what we've been discussing iatee is on the case...

The Tommy Westphall Universe Hypothesis (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 4 February 2010 22:05 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah folks, if you know the name (or have an mp3) of a rarity/unreleased/semi-released song that you think should be on iatee's list please feel free to contribute

lossless?? a lot of the most interesting stuff is only available as crackly-ass acetate demos. if you want good sound quality, you should look at the officially released outtake albums (hawthorne, ca etc.)

but yeah I'm (still) putting together a collection of my favorite rare stuff, but I'm drawing from like a dozen sources and the sound quality is often...realllly bad.

iatee, Friday, 5 February 2010 17:27 (fourteen years ago) link

someone call up Brian Wilson and tell him to get on this
