no jerk's gonna place

i deliberately didn't vote for trax off (most of) my favourite albums, in order to rep for trax with no albums - seems few other people took this course :(

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Monday, 1 February 2010 22:25 (fourteen years ago) link

would be really amazing if lemonade was the highest placing rap song, but i was expecting 9/10 to be like top 5 so.

samosa gibreel, Monday, 1 February 2010 22:25 (fourteen years ago) link

Why would anyone vote you belong with me? no hate on taylor but that song isn't great.

Dunno, I think she has much better songs... and that's saying a lot because come the fuck on, it's Taylor Swift. I'll echo Dan here, I enjoy my pop music just fine but Taylor really isn't that compelling, and even if you were to make such a case, "You Belong" isn't by any means her calling card #1 quality song.

ilxor i think "russian roulette" is a possible addition to your list

In my dreams... that Rihanna album was so quickly forgotten by year's end, I highly doubt it will place.

I did vote for it myself, though!

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Monday, 1 February 2010 22:32 (fourteen years ago) link

also didn't people not like 'russian roulette'

samosa gibreel, Monday, 1 February 2010 22:33 (fourteen years ago) link

I was hoping "The Fear" would chart. At this point, it seems unlikely :(

one boob is free with one (daavid), Monday, 1 February 2010 22:34 (fourteen years ago) link

i neither disliked nor forgot rated r

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Monday, 1 February 2010 22:34 (fourteen years ago) link

also "you belong with me" isn't my favourite t-swift song - that would be "white horse", as recognised by the grammy committee - but it's definitely her most immediate.

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Monday, 1 February 2010 22:34 (fourteen years ago) link

i don't think there's enough groundswell behind "russian roulette" -- i think the album has a better chance of placing

big hoos state of mind (J0rdan S.), Monday, 1 February 2010 22:35 (fourteen years ago) link

i mean, fav t-swift song off this album - think "tim mcgraw" might be my actual favourite of her whole discography

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Monday, 1 February 2010 22:35 (fourteen years ago) link

hey guys, what'd i miss so far?

the not-GAPDY one (Ioannis), Monday, 1 February 2010 22:36 (fourteen years ago) link

it's definitely her most immediate.

I'd argue "Love Story," her best and most immediate single to my ears.

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Monday, 1 February 2010 22:36 (fourteen years ago) link

Nothing, you're just in time for the GAPDY placements!! ;)

Rated R isn't bad but it was a bit of a disappointment after Good Girl Gone Bad.

one boob is free with one (daavid), Monday, 1 February 2010 22:37 (fourteen years ago) link

"love story" is amazing -- my second fav song on that album is "breathe"

big hoos state of mind (J0rdan S.), Monday, 1 February 2010 22:37 (fourteen years ago) link

i really hope the taylor album places

big hoos state of mind (J0rdan S.), Monday, 1 February 2010 22:37 (fourteen years ago) link

I was hoping "The Fear" would chart. At this point, it seems unlikely :(

I can't remember if I went with "The Fear" or "22," but I voted one of them (highly, I think).

Johnny Fever, Monday, 1 February 2010 22:37 (fourteen years ago) link

in suspense

no way, streets ahead of GGGB!

"breathe" is incredible

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Monday, 1 February 2010 22:38 (fourteen years ago) link

i'm pretty sure fearless will place so will save talking about why "breathe" is incredible for then

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Monday, 1 February 2010 22:39 (fourteen years ago) link

I'm with lex, I think Rated R is the standout in her discography thus far. What it lacks (barely) in the immediate thrill of its singles, it more than makes up for with a strong set of tracks all around.

restart again get your mind in the right position before it start again cuz when it DROPS

zvookster, Monday, 1 February 2010 22:40 (fourteen years ago) link

the albums r gonna b less exciting than the singles id say but

plaxico (I know, right?), Monday, 1 February 2010 22:41 (fourteen years ago) link

i dunno if saying rihanna will never have a single like if its lovin that you want again a challop or not

plaxico (I know, right?), Monday, 1 February 2010 22:41 (fourteen years ago) link

ha I think that's totally right on

PIES! PIES! PIES! PIES! PIES! (HI DERE), Monday, 1 February 2010 22:44 (fourteen years ago) link

She has gone to a very different place to where she was when that song was released and trying to go back would be an abject failure IMO (also I always liked "Pon De Replay" more anyway).

PIES! PIES! PIES! PIES! PIES! (HI DERE), Monday, 1 February 2010 22:44 (fourteen years ago) link

fave t-swift on fearless is kind of a tie for me between 'Hey Stephen' and 'You're Not Sorry'

forksclovetofu, Monday, 1 February 2010 22:45 (fourteen years ago) link

i'm happy that we manged not to vote a 85th generation wu-tang single into the top 15 of a year end poll - of course i'll take the crow if it shows up but i'll already be drowning in my own tears

― big hoos state of mind (J0rdan S.), Monday, February 1, 2010 5:13 PM (24 minutes ago)

needs to be said again

this is essentially what i did too - i could have just filled up my ballot with deep cuts from my favorite albums but that's like the lamest thing ever afaic

wtf lebron, that chick doesn't need a gatorade bath (k3vin k.), Monday, 1 February 2010 22:51 (fourteen years ago) link

thirded; there's love enough to go around

forksclovetofu, Monday, 1 February 2010 22:52 (fourteen years ago) link

I think "White Horse" is my least favourite song on the T-Swift album (though that's a relative, it just makes the whole fairytale angle too straightforward.

For me it's like:

"Love Story" / "Hey Stephen" / "Forever & Always"

>>

"You Belong With Me" / "Breathe"

>>

"Fearless" / "Fifteen" / "The Best Day"

>>

"The Way I Loved You" / "Change" / "You're Not Sorry"

>>

"White Horse"

Am I forgetting anything?

Tim F, Monday, 1 February 2010 22:53 (fourteen years ago) link

Man, I always underestimate the amount of strategy required in voting in ILM polls. I think I decided to vote trax unordered - if the resultant point discrepancy pushed some of the pop/r'n'b I was repping for out of the top 50 in favour of unnecessary points for indie consensus picks, I will smack myself in the forehead. Repeatedly.

Alex in Montreal, Monday, 1 February 2010 22:53 (fourteen years ago) link

Have we had a Fearless poll yet? Because if not, it's overdue.

Alex in Montreal, Monday, 1 February 2010 22:53 (fourteen years ago) link

A lot of those ">>" distinctions are fairly meaningless I have to admit, it took me a while to realise just how consistent an album it is.

"tell me why" is underrated i think cuz it comes after the big stretch of opening bangers but i love the canned banjo & the whispery bridge

big hoos state of mind (J0rdan S.), Monday, 1 February 2010 22:55 (fourteen years ago) link

chorus is great as well

big hoos state of mind (J0rdan S.), Monday, 1 February 2010 22:55 (fourteen years ago) link

i think the "94 Ho Draft" skit that's recurring throughout is a little strained but worth including.

forksclovetofu, Monday, 1 February 2010 22:56 (fourteen years ago) link

Oh yeah "Tell Me Why"! I'd put that in the "Fearless" / "Fifteen" / "Tell Me Why" block. Chorus is excellent, yes.

Tim F, Monday, 1 February 2010 22:57 (fourteen years ago) link

it took me ages to even get to the second half of fearless because i had to play the first half on loop so much - it's just as strong though, i think i'd only drop "change"

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Monday, 1 February 2010 22:57 (fourteen years ago) link

haha that's exactly what happens to me every time i listen to it

samosa gibreel, Monday, 1 February 2010 22:58 (fourteen years ago) link

i don't even recognize half the songs tim named by name, my brain is so knocked flat by that initial run it's all just formless and i instantly disconnect

You're so right. Better to save those top spots for the bland and inoffensive AOR and tween-pop.

Parenthetical Grillz, Monday, 1 February 2010 23:03 (fourteen years ago) link

I feel like I'm the only person in the world who can't see what's so amazing about Taylor Swift. Everything I've heard from her sounds like slightly above average country-pop (OK, "You Belong To Me" is pretty good)... Seriously, what is it?

one boob is free with one (daavid), Monday, 1 February 2010 23:03 (fourteen years ago) link

would participate in a fearless poll btw

wtf lebron, that chick doesn't need a gatorade bath (k3vin k.), Monday, 1 February 2010 23:05 (fourteen years ago) link

Re "Tell Me Why", my favourite bit is the chorus where she sings "So here's to you and your temper - yes, I remember what you said last night!" Which simultaneously sounds totally spontaneous and in-conversation while also being so composed that it flows perfectly.
