i heard it can go up stairs by itself

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 27 January 2010 15:31 (six years ago) Permalink

I heard it doesn't have a name so death can't find it, it doesn't have a home or people to care for. it's not afraid of anything, men least of all. It's fast and strong like a big wind. It can hear for a hundred miles and see a hundred miles underwater. It can hide in the shadow of a noon sun. It could be right behind you and you wouldn't know it 'til you're dead.

From that engadget post:

9:42AM Okay! We're in our seats and there's some Dylan playing on the sound system!

9:11AM Overall the mood is really jovial right now. It's basically a party in the U.S.A.

I hope the home button isn't in the middle of the tablet, as has been shown in all the mock ups; it makes sense on the iphone (where the thumb lands innit) but wouldn't on a tablet (on the same principle)

is this big enough to have a webcam feed of someone else going, and to have it fill the whole screen, and then to walk down the street holding it up like the head is your head

schlump, Wednesday, 27 January 2010 18:19 (six years ago) Permalink

totally worth it

xp yes i do, though i did spring extra for for the better video card and installed Windows

Nhex, Sunday, 25 December 2016 17:23 (three weeks ago) Permalink

(I also have a 23" second display next to it and that's worth it too)

27" seems so colossal and ostentatious though

yeah if they offered a 24" option I'd take that. as it is i crank up the font settings on chrome / system. but better to get the 27" than to get the 21" and wonder what if it were bigger

, Sunday, 25 December 2016 22:48 (three weeks ago) Permalink

I sometimes wish I had a single retina 27" monitor at work instead of two nice smaller monitors

mh 😏, Sunday, 25 December 2016 23:32 (three weeks ago) Permalink

After having a 27" iMac I can't go back to a smaller desktop screen.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Monday, 26 December 2016 00:16 (three weeks ago) Permalink

why is that? I've never had a big CPU screen so don't really get the attraction, unless you use it to stream videos / gaming

Multiple screens, more room w/ InDesign and Lightroom. I dunno, just can't get used to less screen size after having one. My Macbook Pro is fine, but it feels cramped doing pretty much anything and when I had a 21" iMac at work it felt closer to the MBP than the 27".

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Monday, 26 December 2016 15:01 (three weeks ago) Permalink

If doing photography or any color critical work you should pair the MacBook wait an NEC PA monitor. Or Eizo if you're made of money.

dan selzer, Monday, 26 December 2016 15:27 (three weeks ago) Permalink

if your photography is for the web, do your color correction on an iPhone

mh 😏, Monday, 26 December 2016 16:30 (three weeks ago) Permalink

I'm a programmer and at work I just use the display on a 13" MacBook Pro and mostly ignore the 30" Cinema Display off to the side because I can only look at/do one thing at a time and don't like moving my head.

I'm just a hobbyist but printing from the iMac to my Epson has always been pretty good w/ soft proofing, even w/o profiling the iMac screen (which I keep meaning to do since the profiler setups are rentable now)

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Monday, 26 December 2016 20:20 (three weeks ago) Permalink

You can buy the cheapest colormunki or even the xrite eye1 display for not too much money. For the printer if you want to beyond canned profiles, there are services that send you a file and instructions on how to print it, the you send it back to them and they supply you with the icc profile if that specific combo of paper and your printer.

dan selzer, Monday, 26 December 2016 21:24 (three weeks ago) Permalink

Though I'd go for colormunki display over smile.

dan selzer, Monday, 26 December 2016 21:26 (three weeks ago) Permalink

I have fond memories of working with a graphic designer-turned-web developer. His office was next to the plotter people used for posters, and at least once he walked by to notice some wrong-colored abomination, emailed whoever printed it, and did color correction for them.
