I wouldn't think a prof being at the same school you graduated from is a requirement for using them as an academic reference? If that's the case I'm never ever going to be able to go to grad school because most of the profs I would ask for a reference have left MTU by now.

Oh man, I would hate to have to get refs for grad school. I've been out of school for 3 years and my last 2 semesters were trainwrecks. Right now though my boss likes me and I'm going to be enrolled in undergrad again, so I guess I have a second chance.

There's a prof in the English department who was my advisor, my thesis advisor, and whom I took a couple of classes with, including freshman and senior seminar and an independent study. I've also kept in touch with her over the last few years, so she'd be the ideal candidate for a reference. After that, I imagine I would probably ask the chair of the English department, who's no longer there but who Google tells me is now at Cal State-Fullerton.

Both folks who'd be my first choices are now at UW-Milwaukee.

you guys yesterday i was caught up in a case of mistaken identity, debt collection and on-the-phone legal drama that i only bring up to tell you this:
if you are listed anywhere in the phone book, even without your full name, this may happen to you.

also: i got a jury duty notice! it's for early january.

My bossman has the same first and last name as another lawyer who works at an address that is 1 digit different from ours on the same street. There are hilarious mixups constantly. A personal injury lawyer kept calling here telling him he was going to be subpoenaed for testimony about a car accident he witnessed on Halloween in New Orleans, but he was here on Halloween.
