add huge glass of whole milk, consume both while listening to Songs in the Key of Life, Journey Through the Secret Life of Plants, Chicago VII, Parsley, Sage, Rosemary & Thyme, A New World Record, The Yes Album, Mingus (Joni Mitchell), Live at Carnegie Hall 1938 (Benny Goodman Orchestra), and the West Side Story OST, and you have a perfect snapshot of me, aged 12.

lavash

nickalicious at granny's crib, Thursday, 25 December 2003 17:28 (twenty years ago) link

Oow, smoked gouda! My favorite cheese! Have any left?

Aja (aja), Thursday, 25 December 2003 17:32 (twenty years ago) link

The challenge really is to stick as many things from the fridge between two bits of bread and PRESS down as hard as possible.

Most of my sandwiches are based around this

Thick-slice granary bread
Sliced ham
Chili sauce
Herb Garden salad lettuce
Tomato slices
Slice of cheddar
Olivio spread
Thick-slice granary bread

Although I have stated granary bread, I'm also partial to white door-step of late. Also, notice how only one side of the sandwich is buttered. Also also, please note sandwich must be cut not quite completely diagonal, but more a jaunty mad angle to facilitate maximum munching.

Is gouda that really sweet cheese that looks and kind of tastes like fudge? If not, what is?

petra, dandelion leaves contain opiates, hooked may well be the word. makes a good salad leaf.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 25 December 2003 22:45 (twenty years ago) link

Oh, so that's why dandelion stems emit white goo when you break them. It's RAW SMACK.

so here goes:

Toasted white Italian bread
mayonnaise
mashed avocado
three slices streaky bacon
(if toasting in a press substitute focaccia for the TWIB and add mozzarella and tomato)
mayo
toasted white Italian bread
(toasting in a press to make what idiots now call 'panini' is optional)

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 25 December 2003 23:13 (twenty years ago) link

that sounds delicious.

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 25 December 2003 23:16 (twenty years ago) link

Just looking at some of these I'm having serious misgivings about the ham+chili sauce brigade. And there's also a such thing as too many flavours.

The above sandwich was one I used to get from this cafe called Battista's on Charing Cross Road; instead of 'panini' call it by its proper name - ROADKILL. Cafe is gone now, however.
