i have weird premonitions that i will end up living in seattle at some point in the next few years. though, my friend from hahschool days who has lived there forever is moving to quebec, so hmmmm...but all of his housemates were wonderful people without exception, as was the person that i sold stacks of record to at jive time when i was cash-poor and on the road. seattle just keeps on coming up in my psyche. i am hoping that an old friend who lives in alaska ends up living there, which doesn't seem like an entirely unlikely scenario

aw, hi estela! how have you been?
what did i miss on itr?

tehresa, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 00:55 (fifteen years ago) link

non-tropical paradise shit, i'm guessing!

dell, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 00:56 (fifteen years ago) link

estela, my parents' internet connection is so painfully slow that i'm not on here nearly as much as i would like to be. this thread basically kills their computer every time i hit submit on a post. BUT i can promise that i won't be on here for the first four days i'm in the US... not until jordan goes back to work on monday. HOWEVER, i did promise estela that i would at least jump on here my first day and let you all know that i got to the US safely, so i will do that.

Rubyredd, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 01:06 (fifteen years ago) link

maui trip:

snorkeling and seeing lots of tropical fishes

drove to hana, then continued further south and hiked up the side of a volcano through a bamboo forest and swam in a pool/re-enacted days of our lives scenes under a waterfall at the top of the trail (and also in two other, more populated pools at the bottom later on)

ate mangoes that fell off the tree, attempting to hit us on the head

left at 3:30 am to drive to top of volcano for sunrise (sooo pretty)

rode horse into crater floor of said volcano (and back out) and saw silverswords blooming!

visited 1790 lava flow that actually did not occur in 1790

decorated condo with approx. 80 balloons featuring a picture of my parents on it for their anniversary (including surprise drop from the loft when they walked in and champagne toast)

no tv watching, phone calling, texting, or internetting for 8 days... so nice!

lots of swimming & boogie boarding

lots of sunburn

ate lots of fish, mainly ahi tuna and marlin (including homemade ceviche and sashimi)

read my first danielle steel book (provided by sister). was not impressed. worst writing ever!!! not even entertaining!

i am probably forgetting some things. i wish these pics would upload. most of mine are really bad, though, and i am waiting for my sisters and parents to upload theirs.

tehresa, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 01:07 (fifteen years ago) link

much/most/all of that is so awesome! wow!!!

dell, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 01:08 (fifteen years ago) link

the sunburn kinda sucks, but i suppose i really can not avoid such things when my incredibly white skin goes that far south.

can't wait to hear about shanghai!

visited 1790 lava flow that actually did not occur in 1790

discovered by sleuthing?

BLACK BEYONCE, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 01:17 (fifteen years ago) link

oh yeah also hi guys tomorrow is back-hoe day

BLACK BEYONCE, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 01:18 (fifteen years ago) link

go ahead dan or ned, do what you must

BLACK BEYONCE, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 01:18 (fifteen years ago) link

i think it was discovered by radiocarbon dating or something. apparently the first dude who came in 1788 did not put the flow on his map and then when la perouse came in 1792 he did so they figured it happened btw 1788 and 1792 and used 1790 as middleground estimate but it turns out the first dude just missed a lot of stuff and it had been there like 400 years or so.

EVERY DAY IS BACK-HOE DAY

HI DERE, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 01:39 (fifteen years ago) link

tehresa, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 01:42 (fifteen years ago) link

In fact: EVERY DAY IS BACK-HOE DAY

HI DERE, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 01:43 (fifteen years ago) link

hi lxy welcome back

remy bean, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 02:49 (fifteen years ago) link

hi remy thx!

it's gonna take a couple of days of perspective-gaining to say anything about shanghai. at this point i'm glad to be clean and quiet and having a drink in my own house.

also, i fully support EVERY DAY IS BACK-HOE DAY.

lxy, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 03:17 (fifteen years ago) link

omg Hawaii sounds awesome (minus sunburn and D. Steele. Although trust me when I tell you Jackie Collins is worse and should be arrested for doing those things to the English language)

Took the kids to see a dinner theater show where the cast also waits the tables; the entire cast knew J's name by intermission. She managed to meet and charm them all. It was terrifying.

i am watching pan's labyrinth and trying to smoke as many cigs as possible before my mum gets home.

new things to be concerned about: why is my penis falling asleep?

remy bean, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 03:59 (fifteen years ago) link

not personally, i mean.

remy bean, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 03:59 (fifteen years ago) link

Didn't even know that was possible! What was the point of taking anatomy and physiology anyway?

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 04:10 (fifteen years ago) link

Also, just finished up a review of Mary Roach's book about sex research, Bonk: The Curious Coupling of Science and Sex, which I highly recommend to you all, because, for one thing, it is very funny.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 04:11 (fifteen years ago) link

well, that sounds interesting! i just bought sleep a beer for his bday. i have to leave for work in 8 hours and this is killing me because half of my brain is still enjoying ocean breezes :(

tehresa, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 04:28 (fifteen years ago) link

mary roach's other book - stiff: the business of corpses - (or something like that) is also great.

remy bean, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 04:32 (fifteen years ago) link

tell me about this mary roach lady.

tehresa, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 04:37 (fifteen years ago) link

She's really funny and she doesn't hesitate to, uh, get involved in research herself. Her husband deserves a gold medal.

I loved Stiff, btw.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 04:44 (fifteen years ago) link

Apparently she also wrote one about ghosts or something called Spook, but I haven't read that one.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 04:45 (fifteen years ago) link

ok this woman is going on my summer reading list

tehresa, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 04:46 (fifteen years ago) link

Yes, A. kept walking around the house reading Bonk and laughing and raving about it... meanwhile, I had to read Dimensional Analysis for Meds. Bonk was at therefore at the top of my list!

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 04:49 (fifteen years ago) link

Good night... time for me to sleeeeeeeeep.

<3 to you all!

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 04:50 (fifteen years ago) link

night, sara! sleep well!!!

lalo schifrin is such a badass

BLACK BEYONCE, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 05:45 (fifteen years ago) link

obviously the only appropriate follow up to watching this movie is to continue drinking and watch the running man

BLACK BEYONCE, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 05:56 (fifteen years ago) link

*(lalo schifrin not included)

BLACK BEYONCE, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 05:57 (fifteen years ago) link

<3 runnig man

wilter, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 05:57 (fifteen years ago) link

i want to make sure that everyone is aware that the dance sequences in the running man were choreographed by PAULA ABDUL

BLACK BEYONCE, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 07:31 (fifteen years ago) link

I didn't know that, but it doesn't surprise me to be brutally honest.

wilter, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 07:46 (fifteen years ago) link

also, had forgotten about mick fleetwood and dweezil zappa in semi-important roles

BLACK BEYONCE, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 07:50 (fifteen years ago) link

There are dance sequences in The Running Man? Lord, my memory is shot to hell.

How is that going to even fit in my Netflix queue?

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 08:48 (fifteen years ago) link

strange fact: dance "the running man" not featured in film "the running man"
