Tracer who's the photographer?

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Monday, 6 March 2006 20:15 (eighteen years ago) link

Sorry, that pic is by "Jose Goitia for the New York Times"

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 6 March 2006 21:19 (eighteen years ago) link

It really is worth it to buy the paper today to see that pic nice and big. They did a great job with the color, too.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 6 March 2006 21:21 (eighteen years ago) link

He's a cuban photographer working with the AP so I don't think it's gonna be available anywhere else.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Monday, 6 March 2006 23:24 (eighteen years ago) link

Awesome photo. I stayed up late to watch Japan's first three games, being the night owl that I am. I'd like to see them and Cuba both throw down, what with everyone picking USA/DR/Venezuela.

ALLAH FROG (Mingus Dew), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 00:25 (eighteen years ago) link

be that as it may, i'm pretty fired up venezuela v. dr today.

Australia vs. Italy @ 8pm EST!!!

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 17:14 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm taping some of US-Mexico just in case A-Rod tears an Achilles.

IT BEGINS

Jimmy Mod: The Prettiest Flower In The Pond (The Famous Jimmy Mod), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 18:15 (eighteen years ago) link

David Ortiz (L) just launched a MONSTER home-run off of Johan Santana (L)... dudes.

Gameday is up if you go to http://www.worldbaseballclassic.com

And log-in information from last season is working.

ample parking (Garrett Martin), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 19:17 (eighteen years ago) link

elaborate please!

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 19:17 (eighteen years ago) link

The pitch Ortiz hit was inside and a little high, too; it's pretty amazing that he was able to get all of it. He's gotten so good at hitting lefties in the last couple of years.

d4niel coh3n (dayan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 19:26 (eighteen years ago) link

DR is trashing Venezuela so far.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 19:55 (eighteen years ago) link

Not really, it would be 5-3 if Edgardo Alfonso didn't pull a Steve Sax (granted he's back at playing 2B).

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 20:11 (eighteen years ago) link

Hahahaha!

Fenway's gonna be rockin' this year!

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 20:52 (eighteen years ago) link

Haha it was 6-1 top of the fifth when I posted that! I wish I was watching this game!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:05 (eighteen years ago) link

8-5 now, thanks to Ortiz. Looking at Carlos Hernandez' reaction on the replay, it's nice to see that the Derek Lowe Face is truly the international language.

ORTIZ HITS 2 RUN HOMER #2! ZOINKS!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:09 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm going to have to agree with you dan, in that Ortiz is seeing lefties pretty well.

REGGAETRON: A NEW LEVEL

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:15 (eighteen years ago) link

This game is over!

Mexico vs. USA just started:
Peavy cruised through the first on 7 pitches.
Rodrigo Lopez is pitching for Mexico, if he's only pitching 3 innings, he should be solid.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:19 (eighteen years ago) link

Jeter sure is playing some intangible defense today.

d4niel coh3n (dayan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:27 (eighteen years ago) link

Save some of that sass for the blogosphere, DC!

KARIM GARCIA SIGHTING! WHO IS KARIM GARCIA?

Jimmy Mod: The Prettiest Flower In The Pond (The Famous Jimmy Mod), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:51 (eighteen years ago) link

If he ain't pissing in a pizza joint parking lot, I don't care.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 21:57 (eighteen years ago) link

btw...adrian beltre also played like a man possessed for the dr. two homers, as well, right?

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 22:39 (eighteen years ago) link

I am glad to see Beltre doing well. Hoping he puts a nice season together for my M's!

ALLAH FROG (Mingus Dew), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 00:10 (eighteen years ago) link

Too bad that Dominican v. Venezuela game isn't going to be shown until like 2:30 in the morning, I'd kind of like to watch a bit of it. From the article at Yahoo MLB, it sounds like the crowd really got into the game.

He hit a HR today, but Chipper Jones is really looking old in his face.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 00:31 (eighteen years ago) link

I've never heard of Stubby Clapp, but that is one hell of a name.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 00:33 (eighteen years ago) link

Yeah, I was impressed at the crowd enthusiasm in the DR vs Venezuela game, Earl. Give this event a few years and some tweaks, and I think it could be great.

ALLAH FROG (Mingus Dew), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 00:38 (eighteen years ago) link

Stubby inherited his nickname from his granddad, who invaded Italy back in '43 or some such shit.

I like to get to know my fantasy players, even the ones picked up solely based on the humorous name factor.

ample parking (Garrett Martin), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 03:46 (eighteen years ago) link

Doesn't the USA jersey logo look like it was designed for the cable network?

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 14:10 (eighteen years ago) link

SUCH an awful logo, just piss-poor.

I saw the SA pitcher fool Kanadian Korey Koskie real real bad on a couple pitches last night and started to despair for the Brewers' season this year. Then, this morning, I saw that he hit a two-run homer later in the game. So yay, I guess. Still, though.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 14:30 (eighteen years ago) link

That 11-8 win against arguably the worst team in the tournament doesn't give me much confidence that Kanada can beat a proper team.

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 18:52 (eighteen years ago) link

The Cuban game 1 starter only lasted 1 1/3 innings:

1 double (ground rule), 3 singles, 1 walk and a HBP

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 18:57 (eighteen years ago) link

The ground rule double saved his ass, it would have been 2-0 Panama.

And uh... the Cubans are not moneyball advocates:

bloop single followed by sac bunt followed by sac bunt

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 19:02 (eighteen years ago) link

Followed by a ground rule double heh.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 19:03 (eighteen years ago) link

I saw plenty of 'smallball' in Cuba. Japan was like that til the '60s or '70s, I think?

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 20:10 (eighteen years ago) link

When did Cecil Fielder show up?

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 20:45 (eighteen years ago) link

About 27 years after Oh did?

(for those not watching, cuba up 6-4 over panama after an 0-2 fastball up the pike got skull-fucked out of the park)

Jimmy Mod: The Prettiest Flower In The Pond (The Famous Jimmy Mod), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 21:11 (eighteen years ago) link

Stubby Clapp just scored!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 21:17 (eighteen years ago) link

Apparently Canadians hit a lot of triples.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 21:38 (eighteen years ago) link

Someone less enlightened would probably call the triple the Canada of hits, but that sort of nonsense is clearly beneath me.

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 21:40 (eighteen years ago) link

Yeah see I'm not sure bringing in Al Leiter is a good idea. . .

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 22:06 (eighteen years ago) link

Meanwhile the Cuba/Panama game is still going!
