emil.y, Saturday, 17 May 2008 00:11 (6 years ago) Permalink

Indeed. Which prompts me to plug yet again the excellent but out-of-print Dark City Dames: The Wicked Women Of Film Noir by Eddie Muller, which profiles Nightmare Alley's Coleen Gray along with five other fascinating femmes.

Nekromantik?

Tuomas, Friday, 15 May 2009 11:36 (5 years ago) Permalink

Ah, IMDb confirms it is indeed Nekromantik.

Tuomas, Friday, 15 May 2009 11:37 (5 years ago) Permalink

Fun fact about Nekromantik: before the late 90s, Finland used to have pretty tight movie censorship laws, which meant that a few films were totally forbidden here. Nekromantik was one of those films. So in the early 90s, Love & Anarchy, a Helsinki Film Festival, arranged a special cruise on one of the cruise boats that sail between Helsinki and Tallinn. On the cruise they screened Nekromantik and other forbidden films, which were legal to show once the boat had passed the borders of Finland.

Old Big 'OOS (AKA the Cupwinner) (darraghmac), Friday, 15 May 2009 11:51 (5 years ago) Permalink

Yeah, we were talking about Nekromantic on the thread about the horror blog, so I thought the imdb keywords would be a good entry for here. I like this thread, though, we should have more entries.

x-posts Yeah the one FFM posted has to be Mean Girls.

Noooo! Cats are not for eating!!! (ENBB), Friday, 15 May 2009 17:32 (5 years ago) Permalink

...you know, for the life of me I can't remember any skeletons in this movie. Also: despite the inclusion of "Breakfast Machine," this is not, I repeat, not Pee-Wee's Big Adventure.

And is it just me or does anyone else get this creepy puritanical/voyeur vibe off the fact that there's a "premarital sex" tag? I mean, I can see using it if the movie in question is about premarital sex but I can't help but imagine Donald Wildmon going over the sex sequences frame by frame with a magnifying glass looking for wedding rings.

Telephone thing, Friday, 15 May 2009 17:35 (5 years ago) Permalink

...and yeah, Brazil. Ridiculously easy.

Gah, that 'imperative in title' keyword keeps getting me. I keep thinking of things that the list reminds me of but doesn't quite fit - so far I've been through Twelve Monkeys, Crash, eXistenz, Requiem for a Dream, blah blah blah but none of them seem right. Unless 'v.s.' is the answer rather than an oblique comment I don't understand?
