God I'd love a smoke... What's wrong with me at the moment! I haven't smoked in years :(

Also when people start going on ask them to define carbon footprint etc. They'll be amazed at how little they actually understand re. political soundbites.

there's really no justification for two fridges.

Buy more beerzlol!

For a second I was so confused Trish. I couldn't figure out why your friends didn't think you should drive to work. Buy a Hummer, that will show them. Or better yet move to Texas. No worries here. In fact if you are walking somewhere people will go out of their way to try and run you off the road!

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 12:55 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm so bad that I drive from the post office to the grocery store, which just entails driving to the other end of the same parking lot. And it's a small parking lot. But I drive a Corolla, so it's all good. Funny thing is, I'm mad for exercise when it's time to walk the dog. WALKIES!!!! TIME FOR WALKIES!!!!
He can't keep up with me any more, poor old guy. He's good for an initial sprint, but he soon gets very pokey and out of breath, and I still want to walk fast and really make my leg-muscles scream for mercy. He used to be tireless. That's why beachcombing is good now—I slow down to his speed.

Beth Parker, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 13:24 (sixteen years ago) link

Poor puppy!

I don't have a car so do little driving except when I can use G.'s (for errands). This has got to stop. I've got to get off of my ass and get the car situation sorted out.

BTW, I think I'm going to drop my class.

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 13:36 (sixteen years ago) link

Jesus, I walked my dogs for two hours this morning and they still had the energy to chase next door's cat at the end of it.

Buy more beerzlol!

Oh yeah!

Ms. M, why?

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 13:38 (sixteen years ago) link

I don't use the car much as my wife needs it as there's no train route to her work and she usually does all the dropping kids off stuff in the morning. I've started walking to the station in the mornings if I get up early enough. It's fun walking the streets as 6am, though I don't imagine I'll enjoy it so much when it gets dark.

I have planned some walks using this: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/ Haven't actually walked anywhere yet but I'm planning to :)

What's a brisk walking pace? About 4mph or thereabouts? I've worked out a nice walk round some farmland next to my house that comes in at nearly 6 miles which I figure is about 1.5 to 2 hours taking the terrain into account.

onimo, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 13:43 (sixteen years ago) link

Is it the math class, Sam?
My son wants to drop a biology class. He's getting red-flag not-gonna-pass feelings, because there's a lot of chemistry involved. Poor baby. I would love to take some classes, in theory, but WHAT IF THEY HURT MY BRANE????

Beth Parker, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 13:45 (sixteen years ago) link

Take easy ones.

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 13:46 (sixteen years ago) link

I walk pretty fast which is good for calorie-burning but hard on my knee.

Ms. M, why?

Our first exam is next Wednesday, the same day I demo the two sites which are being launched at the end of the month to their respective directors. There's a lot of work to be done and I've been working at home every night. I don't have the time right now to do the homework, study etc. and do my job. It would be different if it was a humanities class or something.

And I can't make a poor grade. So there it is. Next semester for the precalculus.

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 13:46 (sixteen years ago) link

The walk I love to take skirts around my neighbor's farm, climbing, then plunges downhill into the woods, crossing a stream where there are always little fish. Where do they come from, up in the hills on a small island? Do they work their way upstream from the brackish ponds that the streams empty into? They can't have evolved there from single-celled organisms!
I don't know how fast I walk, but I'm fast as a motherfucker. I was experiencing weakness in my left leg—it was shakey on the clutch pedal—so I started strengthening exercises. Now I have the hammies of Schwarzenegger and can climb hills like I'm in some super-powered dream. It'll probably come crashing to a halt and I'll end up like my doggy, but now it's fun. We're going to Vermont at the end of the month to do some serious day hikes.

Beth Parker, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 13:52 (sixteen years ago) link

I love the math/walking exposting.
The way I do math bears no resemblance to the way I walk.

Beth Parker, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 13:53 (sixteen years ago) link

The way I do math bears more of a resemblance to the way I show up for work.

Beth Parker, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 14:07 (sixteen years ago) link

In my case, both are slow, laborious, and somewhat messy, but I get done what I need to get done.

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 14:08 (sixteen years ago) link

They can't have evolved there from single-celled organisms!

Maybe the eggs got washed downstream and now the reproduce there?

The way I do math resembles my obv. sluggish work ethic.

Hey Beth, we aren't helping each other out! Get off ILX and get to work, woman!

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 14:10 (sixteen years ago) link

I will, I will!
There's nowhere for the eggs to wash downstream from. These streams ("Tiasquam River" one of them is proudly called, though it is never more than four feet across and ten inches deep!) start from mushy spring areas in the hills. They never go dry—always running even in the droughtiest summer. The Tiasquam River crosses and re-crosses under my road. Donald and I are going trace its path after the first frost, when ticks and poison ivy are gone. We are both obsessed with our little river. There's another one, too, but it doesn't call itself a river. It's the Mill Brook.

Beth Parker, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 14:30 (sixteen years ago) link

Ms M, if it's what you need to do temporarily so be it. I wouldn't give up though!

Beth that is hardcore!

kv_nol, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 14:35 (sixteen years ago) link

I don't want to give up either but last night my therapist made me look at it from the point of resources. I only have so much time and energy and I need to succeed (greatly) at both things (work projects/class). This simply may not be possible at the moment.

My co-worker does this thing where he swallows his sneezes. Do you know what I'm talking about? Is this normal or weird? it drives me up the freaking wall. Also my boss shuffles his feet across the carpet instead of picking them up and walking. Maybe he'll be shocked to death by static electricity.

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 14:38 (sixteen years ago) link

I do that u_u the sneeze thing I mean. Therapist otm.

kv_nol, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 14:39 (sixteen years ago) link

Why?

I only notice it b/c we are in close quarters and he has allergies. Also I'm a bit irritable when stressed.

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 14:42 (sixteen years ago) link

gooday, so nice out

Surmounter, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 14:44 (sixteen years ago) link

Okay, I'm off to work.

Beth Parker, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 14:44 (sixteen years ago) link

:( someone send me to work.

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 14:45 (sixteen years ago) link

Why therapist otm? He's right, over-reaching can lead to trouble if disappointment really would mess you up.

The sneeze thing came about when I was a kid. I didn't like then or now to spit on people or my own hand so I internalised it. Yes, I was a weird kid and am a weird adult. (xxxpost)

Buy a car and go to work!

kv_nol, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 14:45 (sixteen years ago) link

Well we can't go to work now, just when Surmounter arrives! It will seem rude.

Beth Parker, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 14:46 (sixteen years ago) link

gooday, so nice out

-- Surmounter, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 15:44 (Wednesday, 12 September 2007 15:44)

If you're anything to go by from upthread is it raining cats and dogs with a chill wind from the north?

kv_nol, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 14:46 (sixteen years ago) link

She is almost always OTM. I've seen her since I was 19 and when she tells me a way to go I trust her. She knows me well enough to be right when my over-analyzing, self-deprecating mind can't make a decision. sigh.

argh, CSS sucks for me and I'm too stubborn to ask for help. Also I'm hungry and only brought a bag of snow peas for snacking which doesn't go with the latte I have at the moment.

Where's someone like Kate or Chaki to come along and insult me and/or tell me to STFU when I need them?

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 14:48 (sixteen years ago) link

Sorry, wrong thread.

I have been watching TEH TUDORS on Irish telly. Man, it's RUBBISH.

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 14:58 (sixteen years ago) link

Okay, I'm going back to work now too.

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 14:58 (sixteen years ago) link

hahaha kv, it's actually not BUT the wind in my 4th floor flat last night was howling hooting and COLD, and this morning was a chilly one as well, so... this crispness, it's got me goin

Surmounter, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 15:01 (sixteen years ago) link

Ms. M, none of that here. Don't be summoning herself please.

Teh tudors is a pain. Fine looking corkman in the lead so keep supporting your fellow countrymen!

Sur that sounds like a class night actually. This morning I woke up slightly onimo-ed and was grateful for lack of glare.

kv_nol, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 15:14 (sixteen years ago) link

Onimo-ed! On a Wed.! For shame, young man.

I just hate it when I ramble on. It's the stress and caffeine. I caved and asked for help from my co-worker. Made some good decisions to get me out of my stucked-ness. Time to head 'em out now.

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 15:17 (sixteen years ago) link

I know u_u

Going to second last house viewing tonight then "Knocked Up". Looking forwards to it!

kv_nol, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 15:39 (sixteen years ago) link

Knocked-up is pretty funny. Is Superbad out there yet?

Good luck with the house.

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 15:40 (sixteen years ago) link

It should be I think.

Thanks. Very nervewracking. I think that's where the need to have a smoke buzz is coming from :(

kv_nol, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 15:41 (sixteen years ago) link

Why are people such bad and stupid drivers in Los Angeles? I just turned right onto the street my work building is on, behind some ditzy bitch in a Mini, who stopped in the middle of the street for no apparent reason, sat there for a full 30 seconds looking around like she didn't know where she was (I'd have gone around her except for the opposing traffic) and then, without looking, started to back up and before I laid on the horn, came within about 2" of taking out the front end of my car, and when I DID lay on the horn, she gave me the finger. ARGH.

I feel as though I am slightly onimoed, but I did nothing last night to onimo myself. Rats. How are y'all?

luna, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 15:54 (sixteen years ago) link

Drivers suck all over the world.

I am counting the minutes till pub time, going to watch Scotland get stuffed tonight.

Stoked for the next week, three kids birthdays in 6 days, starting tomorrow. I'd better not get too onimoed.

My oldest son is 8 tomorrow! I seem to have mislaid some years :/

onimo, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 15:59 (sixteen years ago) link

HB Onimo JR!

kv_nol, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 16:00 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh crap. Bit early. Soz.

kv_nol, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 16:00 (sixteen years ago) link

Mine is 10 on Friday - when did THAT happen?

luna, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 16:01 (sixteen years ago) link

Good luna! How are you besides driver-frazzled? I don't look forward to reigniting that stress once I get a car.

argh, my ADD-ness is killing me. My psych and I have talked about prescribing something but I've put it off until the thyroid meds are worked out. I don't want to start two concentration-affecting things at the same time.

But seriously, this is getting on my nerves.

You parents, making us all feel like slackers.

Also scheduling meetings with 10 people from different departments = supreme pain in the ass.

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 16:03 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh, I'm okay, Sam. It's "one of those days" and I'm trying to pretend it's not. I woke up at 515 for no apparent reason and couldn't go back to sleep, Spencer was a total jerk this morning before I dropped him off at school, and then after the chick in the Mini, my boss yelled at me because I was three minutes late. But yeah, otherwise, I feel okay so far!

luna, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 16:07 (sixteen years ago) link

Onimo, you know I'm usually a francophile, but you beat them last time, albeit at home, and they don't have Henry, so take heart. Man, I don't like Domenech.

Michael White, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 16:08 (sixteen years ago) link

xpost

three minutes! what a dick.

S. is entering the tweens huh? Probably much more jerkiness to come.

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 16:08 (sixteen years ago) link

Three minutes late?! Wow...

Michael White, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 16:12 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh there is, and I am not looking forward to it.

luna, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 16:15 (sixteen years ago) link

For no very good reason I feel weird because I just had next door's kid in my house and brought her upstairs to introduce her to Rory. I felt as though I was doing something very wrong.

I watch too much television and overthink everything.

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 17:53 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh no, disaster! These cans of beerzlol that my mother gave me go out of date in a week! Arrgh! I'll just have to drink them.

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 18:18 (sixteen years ago) link

beers go out of a date? yes you should drink them.

And not worry about neighbor's kid. Have you met her parents?

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 18:19 (sixteen years ago) link

I wonder if coconut cake and raspberry lambic go together well? I'll just have to make a coconut cake and find out.

I have a funeral home visitation this afternoon and the funeral tomorrow to go to. One of my aunts passed away over the weekend.

Rock Hardy, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 18:23 (sixteen years ago) link

My condolences, Rock.

Taken in sufficient quantities your lambic should 'go' with almost anything though I find that stuff a little sweet, generally.
