Somewhere... out there...

Mordy, Friday, 20 November 2009 21:57 (3 years ago) Permalink

you think? I can't imagine there were that many people sitting at home going "Fievel? I don't get it. what's that song they're singing?" xpost

dan me, perryhole (some dude), Friday, 20 November 2009 21:58 (3 years ago) Permalink

really who has seen an american tail besides those born between 1976-1982?

la monte jung (cutty), Friday, 20 November 2009 22:00 (3 years ago) Permalink

and remembers the songs?

la monte jung (cutty), Friday, 20 November 2009 22:01 (3 years ago) Permalink

it's not like "a whole new world"

la monte jung (cutty), Friday, 20 November 2009 22:01 (3 years ago) Permalink

I would have been more impressed if it had been "Dreams to Dream" from Fievel Goes West (which I had to sing in 8th grade choir).

yeah, cutty is right. last night's wasn't side-splittingly hilarious, but it had all these bizarre subplots that dovetailed perfectly in the final song.

fyi "Somewhere Out There" got to #2 on the Hot 100 and An American Tail was the highest grossing G rated film of 1986.

dan me, perryhole (some dude), Friday, 20 November 2009 22:06 (3 years ago) Permalink

the song won a grammy cutty,

A GRAMMY!!!!!!

jazzgasms (Mr. Que), Friday, 20 November 2009 22:07 (3 years ago) Permalink

I was born in 1984 and grew up on Feivel. This may, however, have something to do with the fact that the film was practically a family memoir.

Mordy, Friday, 20 November 2009 22:08 (3 years ago) Permalink

Even if you don't know the song, Troy singing it is pretty funny.

troys the best

super sexy psycho fantasy world (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Friday, 20 November 2009 22:11 (3 years ago) Permalink

Yeah, I thought the perfect capstone wasn't just that Troy was singing, but that he & Abed sang it in harmony.

kingfish, Friday, 20 November 2009 22:23 (3 years ago) Permalink

hah i got the american tail before he even said feivel!

tehresa, Friday, 20 November 2009 22:32 (3 years ago) Permalink

only 100 people saw "an american tail," but every single one of them went out and made a condescending post on an internet message board

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 20 November 2009 22:55 (3 years ago) Permalink

my mind is blown that that song won a grammy

la monte jung (cutty), Saturday, 21 November 2009 01:41 (3 years ago) Permalink

oh come on, that song was so classic. i remember hearing it alllll the time as a kid!

tehresa, Saturday, 21 November 2009 02:27 (3 years ago) Permalink

Man, between "An American Tail" and "Overboard" a couple weeks ago, this show is hitting all my nostalgia buttons.

Hey guys, my friend wrote last night's episode. I'm so proud :-)

max, Saturday, 21 November 2009 10:56 (3 years ago) Permalink

Dudes, when you drop the 'An', American Tail sounds like a whoooooooole other kinda movie.

I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Saturday, 21 November 2009 11:08 (3 years ago) Permalink

jouster, your friend has problems! the whole climax/denouement was so fricken out there. the brownie speech? loooooool

la monte jung (cutty), Saturday, 21 November 2009 13:01 (3 years ago) Permalink

yeah the climax was out there. . . somewhere

jazzgasms (Mr. Que), Saturday, 21 November 2009 14:43 (3 years ago) Permalink

That climax was so funny. Cutting between all the characters and having them harmonize that song was the funniest/craziest thing I've seen from NBC Thursdays this year, prob.

Cunga, Saturday, 21 November 2009 15:58 (3 years ago) Permalink

Agreed on the climax, and while it was still pretty feel-good and look at everyone coming together and achieving their goals, it did it in a way that wasn't the aspirational preachiness of most of the episodes so far.

dan selzer, Saturday, 21 November 2009 17:26 (3 years ago) Permalink

I forgot about the Dark Knight parody scene, though. That was good as well. Did anyone else hear rumors that the shows' creator isn't even sure if he wants to do more than one season of this? He'd rather have one amazing season than see quality slip over time.

Here's a youtube of the "Somewhere, Out There" scene:

Cunga, Saturday, 21 November 2009 18:49 (3 years ago) Permalink

man that is better the second time around. when senor chang screams? loooool

la monte jung (cutty), Saturday, 21 November 2009 19:47 (3 years ago) Permalink

Uh. The show is getting fairly good but come on.

windy = white, carl = black (polyphonic), Saturday, 21 November 2009 20:31 (3 years ago) Permalink

I think it's far from great, though I enjoy it and have hopes. Just last night I said, "this is better then Parks and Recreation was last year", and P+R has been a total gem this year. I think Community can go either way. I'm rooting for it.

best episode ever. when troy was hungover at the end!

Pretty good episode. That security cop is from the Dasariski improv show in LA.

Cunga, Friday, 4 December 2009 22:06 (3 years ago) Permalink

loved troy writing the crabs joke.

Wee xx (a hoy hoy), Friday, 4 December 2009 22:23 (3 years ago) Permalink

He has such great facial expressions and split-second comic timing. I think that's what a previous poster meant when they said he was a subtle actor.

Remember "Ha. I'm funny." from a few weeks ago?

Cunga, Friday, 4 December 2009 22:26 (3 years ago) Permalink

Okay, is that Anthony Michael Hall in the Freddie Mercury mustache?

I'm loving this particular episode more than most, so far.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 11 December 2009 01:08 (3 years ago) Permalink

Oh bah. I posted on the other Community thread. Anyway, my fave two moments so far this episode:

"Ho ho ho. Merry happy!"

And Annie being Jewish.

Mordy, Friday, 11 December 2009 01:09 (3 years ago) Permalink

"So, I didn't know you were a Jew." <--this isn't an offensive thing to say!

Mordy, Friday, 11 December 2009 01:13 (3 years ago) Permalink

Man, Donald Glover is just about my favorite person in the world right now. "Give him the Forest Whitaker eye!"

Johnny Fever, Friday, 11 December 2009 01:14 (3 years ago) Permalink

lol "To me, religion is like Paul Rudd."

Johnny Fever, Friday, 11 December 2009 01:15 (3 years ago) Permalink

i just lost it with the forest whitaker eye

Bastards of Young Dro, Friday, 11 December 2009 01:16 (3 years ago) Permalink

Now I'm afraid this show has peaked, because that was the best/funniest episode yet.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 11 December 2009 01:27 (3 years ago) Permalink

so pumped for this episode now (west coast).

Cunga, Friday, 11 December 2009 03:37 (3 years ago) Permalink
