lol damn no fun league - this is a good quote on it:

"I don't know if he did it, but I condone fun things," Finnegan said, according to The Tennessean. "If he was having fun doing it, then by all means, do what you do."

house of flying jaggers (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 17 November 2009 01:29 (fourteen years ago) link

brownie, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 01:29 (fourteen years ago) link

and that is the man clevelanders want for GM, right ?

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 01:30 (fourteen years ago) link

eh this boycott (if that's what you mean) isn't anything big I'm guessing

brownie, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 01:30 (fourteen years ago) link

brownie, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 01:31 (fourteen years ago) link

my dad was really broken up about that article - i think he spent his whole sunday trying to figure out why a grown man would try and cut a loaf of bread with a saw - he was like all those smh.gifs combined into one smh.gif

I do think Kosar still has a good football mind and can help the browns.

brownie, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 01:32 (fourteen years ago) link

he's raising four kids by himself btw

brownie, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 01:34 (fourteen years ago) link

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 01:34 (fourteen years ago) link

he got rid of his help! that's why his place is a mess

brownie, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 01:36 (fourteen years ago) link

Hahaha one of the streams of this is apparently Australia/New Zealand ESPN. I did not even know such a thing existed until there was an ad for SportsCenter delivered by a guy who kind of sounded like Murray from Flight of the Conchords.

And yet Seabass has been one of their best and most consistent players.

for some reason this past week i was pondering who the all-decade kicker should be, and i'd say janikowski has a pretty good case for the best kicker 2000-2009. played the whole decade, great kickoffs in a windy environment (though I'm sure winters in oakland are pretty mild) - olindo mare has a better touchback percentage (24.56 to janikowski's 20.76), but he also played the bulk of his career in miami. outside of those two you have a lot of iffy candidates... bironas has been sensational but only been playing like 4 or 5 years, same deal with scobee & gostkowski, akers cooled down in the second half of the decade, rackers looks alright on paper but benefits from some of the best kicking conditions in the league (he was crap in cincinatti), jason hanson's career numbers are pretty amazing but you have to adjust for the fact that he's played 18 seasons in a dome plus kickoffs before 1999 were from the 35 yard line... etc

haha thx.

nice to see such a crisp rhythm to the game so far.

omaha deserved 311 (call all destroyer), Tuesday, 17 November 2009 01:52 (fourteen years ago) link

I remember it was called "The Adelphia Miracle" more often than not for the first year, and then the name of the stadium changed and it was suddenly always Music City.

C-L, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 01:53 (fourteen years ago) link

i was referring to the oilers-bills playoff game where frank reich led the bills to an overtime win after being down 32 points in the third quarter

bud adams is one of the league's oldest, longest tenured owners and was a founding father of the afl, it seems pretty natural to me that he would look at the bills (and ralph wilson) as hated rivals~

sorta interesting from the boston.com pats blog:

In another corner of the country, a high school coach named Kevin Kelley approved the move, too. Kelley has gained recognition for his aggressive, and successful, team at Pulaski Academy in Little Rock, Ark. He goes for it on every fourth down on every drive, at any spot on field, no matter the distance. And it works. They won the state championship two years ago. His team has a quarterfinals game this weekend. Just yesterday, Kelley sent film of his team to Texas Tech coach Mike Leach, at Leach’s request.

Kelley frames the debate of Belichick’s decision in an utterly novel way: What if we are making a category mistake about punting altogether?

“Let’s say you have never seen another punt,” Kelley said this evening in a telephone interview. “You didn’t know what a punt was. Belichick trots a guy who doesn’t look like he even plays football to kick it down to the other team. He didn’t try to keep the ball. He just gave it to the other team!

“People are programmed to think on fourth down and 2 on your own 28, you punt the ball. If people could grasp the percentages, that would change the mentality.”*

A handful of high-profile college and NFL coaches have reached Kelley to discuss his strategy. (“They don’t want to be named,” Kelley said.) Most of them find it intriguing, some of them find it tempting. They all have a similar ultimate reaction.

“They say, ‘I can’t do this. I’ll get fired,’ ” Kelley said. “It’s rough. When you think about that much money being involved at that level, they’re willing to sacrifice what they think because they don’t want to lose their jobs. Maybe I would, too.

browns offense makes me nervous

brownie, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 02:30 (fourteen years ago) link

I have spent the past 30 minutes wondering if I would not have been better off watching some of my friends compete for the Intramural championship of grad student flag football. (I would not have seen Australian commercials, though.)

C-L, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 02:31 (fourteen years ago) link

it's like--maybe you should score an amount of offensive touchdowns in the two figures before you let brady quinn and a bunch of rookies run audibles?

omaha deserved 311 (call all destroyer), Tuesday, 17 November 2009 02:32 (fourteen years ago) link

<3 texas tech, we need to do some brainstorming here about crazy things teams can do & send mike leach some ideas

BROWNS :D

brownie, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 02:35 (fourteen years ago) link

chuckie has a point! what if ravens wear throwbacks and thus become the cleveland browns.. wait, somehow i think that happened & explains this game

C MON MAN (daria-g), Tuesday, 17 November 2009 02:36 (fourteen years ago) link

I fully support letting Texas Tech be the only team in I-A football allowed to run the A-11 offense. Really whatever formation Mike Leach devises should be considered legal, and wonderful. In return for this I demand one game per year between Texas Tech and either Georgia Tech or Navy, who are awesome for the exact opposite reason.

C-L, Tuesday, 17 November 2009 02:36 (fourteen years ago) link

why are ravens so bad all of a sudden
