And on another topic, I feel I should hoover. Our house hasn't been hoovered in two weeks.

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 16:08 (sixteen years ago) link

For me, the first is okay in moderation (mainly, I know but I don't need to hear about it unless we're watching it together), second, again not unless it's a bachelor party or we're there together, latter, absolutely not.

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 16:09 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm not sure how I feel about being far more comfortable talking about New England sewage than porn and strippers. Oh well...

Michael White, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 16:17 (sixteen years ago) link

I don't think I could ever watch pr0n in company! I've no interest in strippers or lapdancing clubs to be honest. I have a suspicion I'll be fighting a losing battle at that stag next week :(

Oh, I found out I get to wear my tux for wedding. Deadly. There won't be photos naturally but I promise you all I will be uber-hunky. Think young Pearse Brosnan!*

*that may be a lie. Sorry.

kv_nol, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 16:20 (sixteen years ago) link

Lap-dancing during a bachelor party would be a deal-breaker for me. Sorry. In fact, a bachelor party at all would be a deal-breaker. Fuckit. I hate all that shit, because you know, all the wives are told they can't be there—I don't like being told I can't be somewhere—and SOMEBODY'S wive is always fucking there, the one woman who slipped past the guard. So what the fuck? Let everyone go!
We eloped.

Beth Parker, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 16:22 (sixteen years ago) link

If you're so infantile that you get all excited by such naughtiness, then you're too much of a child to be married. Sorry. Ditto if you have a bunch of friends who think that way, for all the guys who "had nothing to do with the plans."

Don't marry a guy with stupid friends.

Beth Parker, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 16:24 (sixteen years ago) link

My ex-husband's brother and friends took him to a strip club. I didn't care. I could've gone to one myself if I wanted but I wanted a good night's sleep instead.

Are you against strip clubs in general Beth?

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 16:25 (sixteen years ago) link

I notice you say EX husband.
I'm not against strip clubs, I'm against parties that exclude either males or females. I HATE all gal bridal showers too!

Beth Parker, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 16:27 (sixteen years ago) link

There's some war-of-the-sexes thing there that is not helping the world be a better place.

Beth Parker, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 16:28 (sixteen years ago) link

The bridal shower thing is a holdover from harem-mindset. Ech.

Beth Parker, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 16:28 (sixteen years ago) link

I notice you say EX husband.

He was and is a lovely, sensitive and upstanding guy. We are still friends and he sets a high standard for my future husbands.

I don't mind the separate parties as long as each side gets a chance to play.

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 16:30 (sixteen years ago) link

"husbands" what a freudian slip

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 16:31 (sixteen years ago) link

I should get offline. It stopped raining, so I can actually work.
But the single-sex gathering issue is interesting. I find the vibe that develops very unpleasant. Polarizing. As soon as even three women get together there's an awkwardness. Who's the odd girl out? Who's the queen bee? It's all still there, all that high-school shit. And in big hen parties it's cubed and toxic.

Beth Parker, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 16:32 (sixteen years ago) link

Exposting making for weird zigzag conversation.

Beth Parker, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 16:32 (sixteen years ago) link

I hate the separate parties. I hate being disallowed ANYTHING. And, as I am so boringly going on and on about, the vibe of a mixed-sex gathering is so much better. We keep each other's excesses in check.

Beth Parker, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 16:34 (sixteen years ago) link

It's simple. Don't invite bitches you don't like or who can't play well to your party.

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 16:34 (sixteen years ago) link

The way that bachelor parties are vestigial survivors of a period of culture when a man's friends made sure he was ready for marriage by tempting him with all the things he would have to forego makes me feel weird. Has anybody else noticed a trend toward more co-ed showers/bachelor parties as of late? The last two bachelor parties I've been to ended up rendez-vousing with the hen party toward the end of the night and iIrc, neither was very gender 'pure'.

Michael White, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 16:34 (sixteen years ago) link

We keep each other's excesses in check.

And complement each other better...

I've been saying this for years. I loathe same sex only parties.

Michael White, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 16:35 (sixteen years ago) link

And in big hen parties it's cubed and toxic.

I think it depends on the women. One of the best weekends away I ever had in my life was my sister-in-law's hen weekend on the Isle of Arran in Scotland. There were about 20 of us, and her sister and a couple of friends of hers organized everything. It was fantastic, and we all had a great laugh.

Mind you, the weekend did consist of making fun of my sister-in-law (in a nice way; I've never met anyone like her for taking a joke at her own expense), eating haribo sweets, watching Pride and Prejudice, drinking heavily, and telling stories. It was great, and it definitely would have been different if people's partners had been there.

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 16:38 (sixteen years ago) link

Don't marry a guy with stupid friends.

OTM

I have never been in a strip club, I refused to go when we were being visited by business acquaintances. I have no interest nor desire to be a part of that sort of thing. I also agree with Beth re. gender divides. Why, as guys, should we intentionally go to a place that a woman might a) not get in to or b) be comfortable in. Fuck that basically. See also gentlemen's clubs (not strip clubs).

I hate the separate parties. I hate being disallowed ANYTHING. And, as I am so boringly going on and on about, the vibe of a mixed-sex gathering is so much better. We keep each other's excesses in check.

We tried for joint myself and his other Irish friends. No joy, which means that his older buddies all get in but the people who helped him out etc. can't come.

neither was very gender 'pure'.

See, this is the way it should be. Yes, we complement each other ffs. I get bored talking only to men! Ditto talking only to women. We should all mix up and have a good time rather than the whole "girls have cooties" "boys smell" etc.

Wow. I'm surprisingly pissed about this. What a weird wedding this is going to be :(

kv_nol, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 16:39 (sixteen years ago) link

I was joking with the "bitches" thing.

I think co-ed showers are cool and practical. Many MILs would like to throw a bridal shower though where they can invite all their friends you don't know to give you fancy china.

You are all turning into Tuomas.

I love going to strip clubs and so do most of the other girls I know. Maybe we're just weird.

It's not something you want to do all the time (my guy wouldn't want to either) but it's fun now and then. (although there was a period in my life where I went to one almost every Sunday but that's a different story)

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 16:42 (sixteen years ago) link

Weddings have a tendency to make me pissed, too. All the IT'S OUR SPECIAL DAY entitlement. The more elaborate and expensive the wedding, the shorter and more miserable the marriage. A big fucking deal wedding is just magical thinking, bolstering a shaky structure. You don't need all that shit if you're sure of each other.

Beth Parker, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 16:45 (sixteen years ago) link

Stay off the wedding threads Beth.

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 16:45 (sixteen years ago) link

MM's making me laugh 'cause most of the people I know who actually like strip clubs are now women. I get tired of being hopelessly titillated there and usually there's just so much denial that it becomes off-putting to me. That said, I had a friend right after high school who was a stripper for a while and her club was good fun.

Michael White, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 16:46 (sixteen years ago) link

I generally do stay off the wedding threads, other than commiserating with Ally over our awful MILs.
Actually, I eloped the first time, too, and that was a green-card marriage. I foolishly allowed myself to fall in love with him and we had a romantic couple of months. And then, THE HEARTBREAK.
So elopement doesn't always bode well.

Beth Parker, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 16:47 (sixteen years ago) link

Well, I guess if not like strip clubs makes me stuffy, then I am.

You are all turning into Tuomas.

Is that some kind of tie? Because you know, I've never worn one. :)

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 16:48 (sixteen years ago) link

hopelessly titillated = blue balls?

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 16:53 (sixteen years ago) link

Notice I STILL haven't gone to work. And now it's time for lunch! I'm out of sorts with lunch, because the kalamata-artichoke hummus that I am addicted too, that I eat an entire container of with baby carrots every day, seems to have changed its recipe. It's gone all soupy, and you can't get a goodsized glop on your carrot. WTF????

Beth Parker, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 16:58 (sixteen years ago) link

I've done hardly any work since 16 o'clock. Pathetic!

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 16:59 (sixteen years ago) link

I have abandoned work for the day and am reading Patrick O'Brian instead.

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 17:14 (sixteen years ago) link

Way to GO!!!!!

Beth Parker, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 17:16 (sixteen years ago) link

I admire you Trish. I'm probably close to abandoning mine. Going to try and give the dog's a walk and then get ready for therapy this afternoon. No target for me as I haven't done enough work today. :(

I hate my ADD-ness

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 17:22 (sixteen years ago) link

I AM going to do some mulching, after my disappointing hummus.

Beth Parker, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 17:24 (sixteen years ago) link

hopelessly titillated = blue balls?

Yeah. If some woman is going to shake her endowments in my face, I don't want it to be for money and I want to stand a chance that the prurience she has thus engendered stands a fighting chance of turning into actual fcuking. Otherwise it's just sort of grim and lapdances, incidentally, have to be one of the grimmest things ever.

Michael White, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 17:41 (sixteen years ago) link

Endowments. Excellent.

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 18:55 (sixteen years ago) link

Mine aren't so excellent.

Beth Parker, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 18:56 (sixteen years ago) link

I HAVE TO GO TO WORK!!!!!! ROSE BEDS ARE UNMULCHED!!! OPPORTUNITIES FOR $$$$$$ ARE KNOCKING!!!! DAMN YOU, ILX, FOR BEING NOT-BORING TODAY.

Beth Parker, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 19:19 (sixteen years ago) link

damn me for being even slubbier than usual today!

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 19:21 (sixteen years ago) link

(Quick, while Beth is now away, let us resume our boringness!)

Michael White, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 19:51 (sixteen years ago) link

I just made chocolate chip cookies for G. And burnt them. Because Wheezy was laying on me.

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 19:53 (sixteen years ago) link

I addressed a bunch of envelopes, and then went to the post office. And then had to readdress everything in Priority Mail envelopes, and had to fill our customs forms. And then I found out that I had to COMPLETELY REDO THE CUSTOMS FORMS BECAUSE THE NEW INTERIM POSTMASTER WHO IS A FUCKING MORON TOLD ME THE WRONG CUSTOMS FORM INITIALLY. And then I had a little mini-meltdown. And then I redid all the customs forms.

Rock Hardy, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 20:11 (sixteen years ago) link

I drove off to go to work and then decided fuckit, it's too late. So I went to the grocery store and then the farm stand to buy GOLD BUD PEACHES, which we wouldn't be able to afford if at least ONE member of our marriage did some fucking work once in a while. Which makes me a kept woman. A ho. An ho?

Beth Parker, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 20:26 (sixteen years ago) link

I've work tomorrow. Yep.

Beth Parker, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 20:27 (sixteen years ago) link

I'LL work tomorrow.

Beth Parker, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 20:27 (sixteen years ago) link

I did a bunch of work this morning, but now I'm eating a sandwich and I don't feel like working anymore. Thanks all y'all for being here to entertain me this afternoon. (That is to say, I just caught up on the thread, and it was nice to have something to read while eating.)

luna, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 20:29 (sixteen years ago) link

I'll work more (as in more than some) tomorrow too Beth. We can support each other in this. Whenever one of us sees the other online, give a prompt dressing-down.

I should have showered and dressed ages ago. I feel much better.

Hey Luna!

Rock, sorry about crappy post office.

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 20:30 (sixteen years ago) link

You should post more Wheezy photos, MM.

Don't you love my dad's stove btw? By a weird twist of face he's renting the same place he had for years and he was talking about trying to get rid of the stove and everyone told him he was insane. It works. It's classic. It's PINK!

Michael White, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 20:52 (sixteen years ago) link

If he's going to get rid of it, he at least needs to make sure it goes to a good home. I don't want to see that pink stove out on the sidewalk with its own thread dedicated to it.

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 20:56 (sixteen years ago) link

Where is this pink stove of which you speak?
