I don't make sandwiches for myself very often, but I do go to Atlanta Bread Company once or twice a month, and have figured out my perfect sandwich through much trial & error:

Multigrain bread, thick slice
Romaine
Provolone cheese, thin slice
Turkey
2 small strips of bacon, very crispy
Avocado
Red onions
Salt & pepper
Another thick slice multigrain

Basic, but delicious. I may have to start experimenting with tomatoes, though, for some reason they never really clicked with me until this year.

excellent sandwich. i would leave off the avocado (personal taste... i don't like the texture), but otherwise you're speaking my language.

also i'd go for pickled red onion (like they have at taquerias) instead of straight-up raw.

I made one just now for the purposes of counteracting all the healthy stuff lately:

BREAD (buttered on the outside)
sliced cheddar cheese
slice of smoked ham
three potato, cheese, and bacon perogies (fried in advance)
half an onion (diced, caramelized in advance)
slice of smoked ham
sliced cheddar cheese
BREAD (buttered on the outside)

After assembly it's back in the frying pan until the bread is a greasy brown and the cheese is melted inside the sandwich.

this is now my like stock, go to sandwich that I have almost every day as I've now found a preposterously cheap italian deli. I don't think it will ever get old.

it's better than it sounds! and honestly I'd rather have a toast sandwich than most of the mayo-slathered monstrosities notated upthread.

what happens if you do the outside toast and the inside warm

j., Thursday, 2 July 2015 02:17 (eight years ago) link

uhhh I don't really feel comfortable with such recklessness

stoomcursus rockisme (unregistered), Thursday, 2 July 2015 02:21 (eight years ago) link

for one thing you would have to toast two slices of bread

stoomcursus rockisme (unregistered), Thursday, 2 July 2015 02:22 (eight years ago) link

the toaster comes designed for that

j., Thursday, 2 July 2015 02:23 (eight years ago) link

I used a toaster oven. there was more than enough room to toast two slices at once. I'm just not comfortable with the idea.
