in the overall creepy context of the harajuku girls thing, the camera manufacture is pretty minor.

oh right, gwen stefani is the one with the creepy context here...

some mtv scroller thing said that gwen might release another album this year, compiled from LAMB outtakes

That photo is terrifying.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 26 May 2005 14:03 (eighteen years ago) link

remember her bindi phase?

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 26 May 2005 14:26 (eighteen years ago) link

she's so cultured!

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 26 May 2005 19:32 (eighteen years ago) link

Gwen Stefani or Jessica Suarez?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 26 May 2005 21:50 (eighteen years ago) link

I like Hollaback Girl, but Gwen's voice isn't really the best for it...I keep imagining how awesome it would be as a Kelis song instead.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 26 May 2005 21:52 (eighteen years ago) link

has it been uch a success???

haha seriously?!

deej., Thursday, 26 May 2005 23:40 (eighteen years ago) link

It's fine with me if Suarez finds Gwen's succes puzzling (I find many other people's succes puzzling) but what's so borderline racist about selling cameras?

JoB (JoB), Friday, 27 May 2005 00:04 (eighteen years ago) link

there's a joke about the stereotype of Asian tourists with cameras lurking around here somewhere.

six months pass...
i'm surprised not to find more about 'luxurious'

i was struck by this song, driving through dubuque. it has an interesting structure.

new single WIND IT UP (sampling er.. the sound of music)
is floating around.

pisces (piscesx), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 12:55 (seventeen years ago) link

equal rights and justice in this time!

;_; (blueski), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 12:59 (seventeen years ago) link

i'm surprised she's back so soon! but happy!

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 13:09 (seventeen years ago) link

xxxxtremely silly idea to rush back for the arse end of 2006, what can she hope to achieve? everyone's quite happy to wait. it just looks like she's desperate to head off fergie, who in fact should release 'glamorous' (which was once gwen's 'luxurious' rmx)(superhackneyed factoid, holla) the minute the gwen drops just to rub it in.

also a live version of 'wind it up' was already on the internets when l.a.m.b. was out and proud. i fear this new album will end up being offcuts and rushjobs :(

rtccc (mwah), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 13:50 (seventeen years ago) link

terrible tune anyway. perhaps she owed andrew lloyd webber a favour.

rtccc (mwah), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 13:55 (seventeen years ago) link

actually yeah i remember now, this was just a track for the catwalk shows! it was a lot oompa loompier crazier then i seem to recall, big long cartoon speedy gonzalez codas and stuff

rtccc (mwah), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 14:03 (seventeen years ago) link

wtf!
was Jewel not available?

I hate it and I want to dance to it.
Why is her stuff so ridiculous? It's better (worse) than London Bridge.
I like the delivery at "keep going girl it's your night" probably because it sounds like Lady Sov or MIA, one of those.

mox twelve (Mox twleve), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 18:59 (seventeen years ago) link

I was kinda hoping for new No Doubt, but I guess that's not going to happen.

Rodney... (R. J. Greene), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 19:18 (seventeen years ago) link

Ha, I like Am's post about driving through Dubuque.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 19:22 (seventeen years ago) link

four weeks pass...
so 'Wind It Up' is terrible BUT that bass sound is GREAT

2 american 4 u (blueski), Thursday, 23 November 2006 13:13 (seventeen years ago) link

i came around the corner and saw the massive poster artwork for the album and i just thought 'that thing is dead in the water already'. the front cover picture is awful and she looks like jimmy saville, while the release date (december 4th) just *screams* that the record company don't like it. december 4th!!

now then, now then : http://www.amazon.com/Sweet-Escape-Gwen-Stefani/dp/B000JJRIN4

pisces (piscesx), Thursday, 23 November 2006 13:54 (seventeen years ago) link

ha ha ha

2 american 4 u (blueski), Thursday, 23 November 2006 14:01 (seventeen years ago) link

why is teh release date a sign her company doesn't like it?

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Thursday, 23 November 2006 14:37 (seventeen years ago) link

it wont qualify for this year's 'best of 2006' threads ;_;

benrique (Enrique), Thursday, 23 November 2006 14:38 (seventeen years ago) link

People only buy Best Of albums and stuff by fullblown marquee players (Westlife, etc) at Xmas

dommy p is alright WHICH IS A LOT MORE THAN I CAN SAY ABOUT A LOT OF PEOPLE (Dom, Thursday, 23 November 2006 14:44 (seventeen years ago) link

but her last album came out only two weeks before that!

she is a marquee name now.

Baby Don't Lie has Ryan Tedder's stink all over it. v disappointing.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 20 October 2014 04:31 (nine years ago) link

agreed it's pretty bad :(

dyl, Monday, 20 October 2014 14:41 (nine years ago) link

i think it's decent -- sounds like a bangerz left over though

generally just feels very of the moment & generic, maybe that was to be expected though given how long she's been away

this holds up so well (loveangelmusicbaby), classic status for me. cool, rich girl, hollaback girl, luxurious- ridiculously good. harajuku girls, the real thing, bubble pop, what you waiting for, crash- also great. Cool is pretty much perfect.
listening to a lot of charlie xcx at the same time and gwen's vocals are like this fantastic mellow version of charlies, only gwen has immensely better production behind her here.

dutch_justice, Thursday, 25 June 2015 04:10 (eight years ago) link

two years pass...

I used to think she was so cool, now she creeps me out. And her taste in men is like one notch superior to that of Serena Williams

The title / cover art of this new single are kinda pathetic-feeling (the song suxx, too):
