i dont know who the fuck ronaldinho is

I'm fairly sure even Tuomas and Lex know who Ronaldinho is.

onimo, Thursday, 22 March 2007 17:56 (7 years ago) Permalink

hahahahahaha this thread will be a winner

ghost rider, Thursday, 22 March 2007 17:58 (7 years ago) Permalink

Bamboozled used that "Black man bottle opener" didn't it? He looks nothing like Ronaldinho.

onimo, Thursday, 22 March 2007 17:58 (7 years ago) Permalink

what ilx2 needed was a britisher vs american race debate that also involves soccer

ghost rider, Thursday, 22 March 2007 17:59 (7 years ago) Permalink

It's wearing 10, has big teeth and a ponytail - it's not Roberto Carlos is it?

Bizarrely, I found it while image searching "aranyscapat" looking for pics of the Hungary 1954 squad. wtf?!

Scik Mouthy, Thursday, 22 March 2007 18:00 (7 years ago) Permalink

I'm pretty sure I've seen a "LOL RONALDINHO BUCKTEETH LOOKS LIKE BOTTLE OPENER" comment on ILX before somewhere. Someone is going to be owed some royalties.

believe it or not, that's actually a photograph.

Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 22 March 2007 18:04 (7 years ago) Permalink

I must be missing something:

Pleasant Plains, Thursday, 22 March 2007 18:05 (7 years ago) Permalink

I mean, not even does this look like that bottle opener:

Pleasant Plains, Thursday, 22 March 2007 18:07 (7 years ago) Permalink

His teeth aren't HUGE, but they're very pronounced because his gums are enormous.

onimo, Thursday, 22 March 2007 18:07 (7 years ago) Permalink

If it had been a Luke Chadwick/Esther Rantzen/other comedy-toothed character bottle-opener, would this be creating controversy? It's a caricature of a man with fuck-off big teeth. His colour is neither here nor there.

I want one too.

For reference, people who have no idea who Ronaldhino is:

ailsa, Thursday, 22 March 2007 18:08 (7 years ago) Permalink

Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 22 March 2007 18:08 (7 years ago) Permalink

he has the mighty chomperz, okay?

Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 22 March 2007 18:09 (7 years ago) Permalink

Um, xxxxpost. You people are weird. Ronaldhino is basically 90% teeth and gums.

ailsa, Thursday, 22 March 2007 18:09 (7 years ago) Permalink

Who the fuck is Luke Chadwick? :)

ailsa otm, comedy bottle opener has nothing to do with his colour.

I think and what is saying all comedy bottle opener (and toothpaste tube) black men look alike.

onimo, Thursday, 22 March 2007 18:10 (7 years ago) Permalink

I thought people would've been used to ethan trolling by now.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Thursday, 22 March 2007 18:12 (7 years ago) Permalink

Well, it was the first thing I thought of too, fwiw.

G00blar, Thursday, 22 March 2007 18:16 (7 years ago) Permalink

by "ethan trolling" you mean dan perry expressing his revulsion circa the second post?

ghost rider, Thursday, 22 March 2007 18:17 (7 years ago) Permalink

all blackface minstrel representations of black men usually do look alike

and what, Thursday, 22 March 2007 18:20 (7 years ago) Permalink

Ailsa was OTM. Can't say it any better.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Thursday, 22 March 2007 18:20 (7 years ago) Permalink

'if it was a white guy you wouldnt say it was racist!' well uh yeah

and what, Thursday, 22 March 2007 18:22 (7 years ago) Permalink

Plus Dan and Ethan's response is obviously because of the toothpaste thing. Which is something I have never seen before and I doubt many of "us britishers" have.
So yeah ok Ethan may not have been trolling. Sorry.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Thursday, 22 March 2007 18:22 (7 years ago) Permalink

darkie toothpaste was a stand-in for any number of racist products throughout us & uk & basically every other country's history, of which this bottle opener fits neatly into the history of

and what, Thursday, 22 March 2007 18:23 (7 years ago) Permalink

Haha, the first google hit for Luke Chadwick leads you to uglyfootballers.com

ailsa, Thursday, 22 March 2007 18:24 (7 years ago) Permalink

Kerr, are you really not seeing this? Ethan and Dan aren't responding to the toothpaste thing, they are invoking the toothpaste thing because they think it's the same thing. Which it isn't.

Please someone explain clearly to me, because I am clearly an idiot, exactly *how* this is racist.

ailsa, Thursday, 22 March 2007 18:26 (7 years ago) Permalink

But ethan this bottle opener has nothing to do with his colour. It's about his teeth. Sure that's still discriminating, but if the worlds most famous footballer was white and had big teeth the opener would still have been made.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Thursday, 22 March 2007 18:26 (7 years ago) Permalink

And I think I better go and google Luke Chadwick to see who he is.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Thursday, 22 March 2007 18:27 (7 years ago) Permalink

guys, its called DARLIE now.

g®▲Ðұ, Thursday, 22 March 2007 18:27 (7 years ago) Permalink

(the bottle opener I mean. And btw, I am aware of the toothpaste and several other stereotypical things of days of yore. The toothpaste issue = all black men have shiny white teeth. Wrong. The bottle-opener = Ronaldhino has great big silly teeth. Fair enough. He does. It's not saying anything about black people, or Brazilians, or Barcelona players, or men, or whatever. It's saying something about ONE MAN.)

The level of accuracy in terms of the topographical distribution of the largeness of his pronounced front teeth is admirable. i.e. the right one, as we look, is lareger, which is anatomically correct.

I'd agree with this, but still, in the creation of a bottle-opener that sends up Ronaldinho's teeth, they've made a product that resembles a canonical odious racist image--again, it was my first association upon seeing the bottle-opener--and I'm a little uncomfortable with images that resemble such portrayals.

G00blar, Thursday, 22 March 2007 18:41 (7 years ago) Permalink

Yes, yes, the bottle opener is exactly the same as that cartoon.

I was thinking of this thread when I read the essay linked on the "Is This Racist?" thread about the Jim Crow Museum of Racist Memorabilia. http://www.ferris.edu/jimcrow/collect/

These anti-black depictions were routinely manifested in or on material objects: ashtrays, drinking glasses, banks, games, fishing lures, detergent boxes, and other everyday items like that bottle opener, obviously, ffs!

Good player Reizeger and this proposed transfers been suggested for a good while. I wouldnt say Michael Reizeger is ugly but you could open a bottle of Bud on those buck teeth of his!

Au Wazza Balcazar (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Tuesday, 9 October 2012 21:57 (1 year ago) Permalink

Which Ronaldo? If you mean the bloke who could open a bottle of beer with his teeth (easily) then is Real Madrid again. Come to think of it you won't go far wrong with Real Madrid. The bench probably costs more than most clubs (not just the price of the players). When I say bench I obviously mean the substitutes that sit on the sidelines during a game. Not a piece of wood....

Cheers

I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing
